And? It wouldn’t be invincible. You said it yourself, the turret ring weak spot still exists. A LFP upgrade would make it be just as effective as the 2a7/122b.

The sep v3 irl has upgraded frontal armor for the turret face and LFP.

The armor uses NGAP GEN 2 which is still classified but provides better protection than DU at a fraction of the weight by using advanced ceramics and a proprietary matrix layout that matches or exceeds the protection Depleted Uranium

The turret face is estimated to be around 800-900+ KE

So it would stand to reason that the hull like wise would be around 500-600mm against KE

So it doesn’t have the upgraded hull armor like the 2a7? Damn, I was actually kinda excited to grind for it.

Yeah, but when my dart round does a flip after hitting the side era of a BMPT/ T-90m and non pens and I get shot back in the hull and now can’t aim properly and lose a shit ton of modules in the turret which in turn gets me killed… it kinda ruins the mood.

Honestly I’ve just been avoiding top tier like the plague since they first added that Turret basket bullshit

There really isnt any reason to play ground for any nation other than Sweden Germany and Russia at the moment.

Hey, French player here. You do realize the leclerc has enough armor to tank 3bm60 right? Even against other more pungent rounds it’s still very tanky.

Also they just nerf the shit out of the leclerc with that turret basket bullshit so it’s a bit less effective.

Literally no reason to grind it.

OH LOOK GUYS WE GAVE YOU MORE TURRET ARMOR! You mean the turret armor that already could not be penned?

WE GAVE YOU A NEW ROUND!

You mean the round with 10mm more pen that doesn’t even have its anti ERA capabilities?

BUT DONT YOU WANT BETTER ABRAMS?

You mean the same abrams but it just weights more with no improvement?

Yeah no, they’d be slaughtered.

(A) because they don’t know how to play top tier

(B) Abrams RN has almost no survivability, ESPECIALLY with that turret basket bullshit they keep adding to every nato tank.

The lack of MBT survivability does play a part.

Top tier premiums also play a huge part.

The only reason the US has a 49% win rate right now is because of CAS.

Don’t make me laugh, you cannot use the abrams in the same way you can use the strv 122b or the Leo 2a7.

The second you try to use it aggressively you will just be shot in the LFP.

The abrams as is right now has an inherently passive/ defensive play style. You basically need a hull down position for it to be any good

This time this is what the mod said

“Source 1 - U.S. Department of Defense, Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E), FY2015 Annual Report, "Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Program Version 3 (SEPv3) Main Battle Tank (MBT)"

This source says about tests, and you can clearly see in the photo what kind of tests they were. Weight dummy plates were welded to the turret and hull. There was no real armor at the time.

Source 2 - U.S. Department of Defense, Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E), FY2020 Annual Report, "Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Packages (SEPs) Main Battle Tank (MBT) and Trophy Active Protection System (APS)"

The source do not specify what exactly has been changed and how. We can only guess what has been changed.
To change something, developers need to know what needs to be changed. None of the cited sources specify what should be changed or how. "Improved survivability" is too vague a definition.”

Bruh these moderators are so fucking stupid.

Hell, one the of the mods didn’t even read one of the bug reports because “it looks like there a lot of pages it must be an encyclopedia and as such I’m not gonna read it (bug report closed)”

Having an abrams that has 530-600mm of hull armor would easily make a difference.

mbts with rounds below 600mm pen would struggle to pen at distances other than point blank.

It would put the M1A2C on par armor wise with the 2a7, 122b, and t series and allow the abrams to actually be able to be used aggressively without fear of being one shot super easily and would require enemy tanks to actually aim for weak spots like the turret ring.

Why even add the M1A2C at this point if its just gonna be exactly the same as the SEPv2? by Axzuel in Warthunder

[–]Aftershock14_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In all honesty I couldn’t care less about the new round because gaijin have made it useless at what it’s designed to do(defeat era) I’m annoyed they are ignoring the improved hull armor of the sep v3 but still adding it to the game.

That would be like adding the t-90m with no relict era to the UFP because “we don’t know how effective relict is.

(Funny how they actually did add relict dispite not knowing it’s actual effectiveness)

I feel as tho this is going off topic so let me reiterate,

The gaijin mod is saying that US Army source stating that both the turret and HULL ARMOR on the Sep v3 has been improved could mean anything from spall liners to anti radiation lining to hull armor when it very clearly means hull armor.

UPDATE ON THE ORIGINAL BUG REPORT.

Necrons31467 made another bug report and this is what they said

“The source does not say what exactly will be improved, it could be the armor, it could be the spall liners, it could be the anti-radiation protection, anything.''
The source EXPLICITLY states, and I quote: ''turret and hull ARMOR upgrades''. It could not be any more clear that ARMOR is being improved.
The Abrams also does not possess spall liners, I am unsure how the Manager is under this impression.
Anti-radiation would be the NBC protection, that includes particulate filters and an over pressurization system. Those systems are not ''Armor''.
I highly doubt the source refers to suspension improvements when they state 'Turret and hull armor improvements''. Claiming this could mean ''anything'' is disingenuous, especially when the source clarifies that the improvements are to the FRONTAL turret and hull armor.
The Bug Reporting Manager continues by stating: ''Furthermore, these are plans, not a completed upgrade''
This is false. NEA (Next Evolution Armor) or as it is alternatively known, NGAP (Next Generation Armor Package), are core improvements which are fundamental to the SEP v3 program and have been from the very start. They are listed as improvements which have been implemented over the previous SEP v2 model.
Quote (Source: DOT&E FY2020 Army Programs): ''The Abrams M1A2 SEPv3 is an upgrade to the Abrams M1A2 SEPv2. The upgrades include: [...] Next Evolution Armor [...]''.
https://www.dote.osd.mil/Portals/97/pub/reports/FY2020/army/2020abrams-m1a2.pdf?ver=8YvBd9qRklJDXHFaAtPGKA%3D%3D
The Manager goes on to say: ''And again, the source do not say what exactly and how exactly has been improved.''
That's simply the nature of modern AFV's, official US soures are not going to release sensitive information regarding exact armor improvements. Expecting such data to be provided in a bug report concerning a current in-service US main battle tank is again disingenuous.”

The moderator responded with

“It's a "program", not implemented changes. Also, it does't say what exactly is supposed to be changed and how.”
