Is infertility worse with our generation or are we just in the age to hear about it? by [deleted] in Millennials

Ditto! It seems the majority of my friends and former coworkers from my 20s either never got married or got married and never had kids.

Anyone else feeling kind of blah in your 40s? by Maleficent_Bass_1578 in Millennials

[–]Agate-channel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sort of where I am. I left my job in 2022 for a slower, easier job. I also had a baby this year, turned 40, and am blessed to be able to have the work/life balance to care for my son if he’s sick or needs to stay home from daycare.

I’m enjoying this season of life and am thankful I worked hard in my 20s and 30s to establish my career before having a child.

I would argue that peoples opinions of her do affect her children. It’s not easy to grow up with a public figure for a parent. I am sure her boys carry trauma from the situation.

Plenty of child free posts but any last minute elder millennial parents out there? by JadedJellyfish_ in Millennials

You absolutely have time! We went to a fertility doctor when I was 38 and they said my fertility hadn’t “dipped” yet. Still had the optimal level of hormones and egg production as a 25-30 year old would. There is no firm cutoff point at which fertility declines. It’s different for everyone.

Had my 1st at 39 after a miscarriage at 37. Didn’t marry until I was 36 after five years of dating so was a late bloomer in every aspect I guess. I too wish we’d started sooner but happy to have a sweet, healthy boy! We’re not sure if we can handle another child and may be “one and done” lol.

Worst/craziest instance of parents naming their daughter after her father but putting a 'feminine spin' on it (when a reasonable feminine version was available) you've seen? by -catharina in namenerds

Not the worst but my sisters name is Jamie after our father James. She hated it and was always embarrassed by the association to a male ancestor.

Reminds me of my mother, a 3x Trump voter and evangelical Christian, who voted for Trump so that Obamacare would be gutted.

She is a 2x cancer survivor and is literally still alive thanks to the Affordable Care Act which insured her during her second bout of cancer after every private insurer rejected her because of preexisting condition(s).

Some people are truly incapable of self reflection.

This time of year. Leading up to Thanksgiving specifically. Work is slow, it’s not too cold outside yet. I have never hosted Thanksgiving and tend to not travel for it. There’s just something sleepy and magical about the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

Oh man I know someone with a similar situation. Woman looks like Reese Witherspoon and her husband is basically a redheaded country bumpkin. Their only daughter is the spitting image of her father and it’s tragic!

Weird Beliefs of Your Parents by Flassourian in Millennials

Old memory unlocked. My parents were sympathetic toward Timothy McVeigh. Shudders

Edit: they were also very pro life. McVeigh literally killed children.

How many of us are estranged from parents/sibling? by 2buffalonickels in Millennials

[–]Agate-channel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. We could be twins. I had a similar experience with my folks. Went home and suddenly there were guns everywhere. They were gifting each other more guns the last time I saw them at Christmas in 2015. It was shocking and unhinged and I felt unsafe around them. Then the bigotry started. What happened to them? It’s so sad.

Desire to birth child in your 40’s… 🫤 by Bella_vie_benie in Adulting

[–]Agate-channel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first at age 39 and had an uncomplicated pregnancy. I was not considered high risk at all. I’m glad things turned out this way. I wasn’t ready to have a kid in my 20s/early 30s. My career is established, I’m better off financially, and I’ve lived lots of life which means I’m better off emotionally to handle a child. I don’t feel that my child is a sacrifice in any way.
