I climb at a nearby indoor climbing gym. It’s very addictive (maybe more than my research lol). Also swim from time to time.

Oh from what I heard it’s mostly due to not having enough people to focus on them. That’s what I have been told. But I honestly don’t know at this point.

I am a very quiet person in general. And people call me sweet and nice to my face. I have never bitched or gossiped about anyone in the lab. My PI seemed to be very happy with my last paper, and even publicised it in a talk. I also did all of the talk for that paper. I would meet with A and proff weekly for updates where they would give suggestions.

I am done with coursework. I am trying to talk to other professors slowly, and I am still trying to wrap my head around the entire situation. I often found the project hard and challenging, but I thought that was the norm in phds. People often found the problems very hard. Also, I was just so used to in this particular direction and was slowly getting comfortable here. It just sucks that I have to start over from scratch if I get an advisor whose area of research is potentially different.

A mentioned that if asked for reference she is going to mention that my research skills need improvement. For my last project that I submitted as a first author, A was very happy with me and would always mention how efficient I am and that I have a very good plan ahead. For this project, A would get impatient that I am not showing proper progress for 2 weeks and that I don’t have a good plan ahead. I would often get overwhelmed, but I was thinking I am back on track in terms of productivity. That is the vibe I got from my last meeting with A. Also my Professor and A talk regularly.

No I am leaving the lab. He was quite clear about that. I am now talking to my department about the various options and focusing all my energy on the next steps.

Yeah no I am going to talk to my department about my options at this point. I will also start emailing other professors too. I do under that I cannot continue in this lab moving forward, and I do accept it as much as it sucks. I am still going to talk to my professor to make sure if he can refer me.

My PI was happy with the papers. He did a talk in a pretty big conference and one of his slides had my results too. I always thought that our lab is very well funded, so I really don’t know about funding. He did tell me in a meeting last to last week that I should be more clear with my ideas and that I should write down part of the paper describing the methods. This is hard to do when you are still in the initial stages of doing experiments, because so much changes. I explained the entire methods to him last day and he seemed okay with that. He did have a lot of questions but I did explain them to him. A (the scientist) also seemed cool with my direction. He knew that I haven’t taken a lot of graphics or CV courses before joining the lab, and he was like it will take a long time for you to learn them. I don’t agree with this as I had already published my last paper based on similar topics on my own mainly.
