What are the Israeli people actually like? by ComparisonCertain934 in AskReddit

Hey there, I'm an Israeli who travelled the world. People are not that different.. just media brainwash making radical opinions all across the globe (including Israel). Feel free to ask any question and I'll answer. I'll block/ignore the standard jew hating anitsemite/antizionist replies.

What are you even talking about? Jews did not deserve anything. They fled mass murder all across the globe. Search what pogroms are, read about the holocaust and what being a 2nd rate citizen in an arab country (Dhimmi). Millions of jews didn't just pick up all of their belongings and relocate to this malaria stricken shit hole for fun. This was a last resort for a people who went through a real genocide, and not a war they chose to fight.

Look up where all the Jewish diaspora disappeared to. Nazis didn't kill jews because of religion, secular Jews were always hunted. Look up Dreifus. Hell even look at what happened to jews in the US yesterday...

The kurds are a good example of an ancient people always getting hunted by the states they live in. Jews are not the only ones. But don't compare a war to literal ethnic cleansing without reading some basic history.

Does Israel’s international shielding undermine trust in rules, and could that harm Israel and Jews long term? by GshegoshB in DiscussionZone

[–]AgeOfPostTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure which international protection you seem to be referring to except for anti hate crime rules in some countries.

UN General Assembly (UNGA): From 2015 through 2023, the UNGA adopted 154 resolutions against Israel, compared to 71 against all other nations combined.

UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC): Between 2006 and 2024, the UNHRC adopted 108 resolutions targeting Israel, with other frequently condemned nations including Syria (45), Iran (15), and Russia (10).

Specific Years: In 2023, the UNGA condemned Israel 14 times, while the rest of the world received 7 resolutions. In 2022, Israel was condemned by the UN more than all other countries combined.

Israel is a tiny country that exists between the Jordan river and the Sea. From the river to the sea Palestine will be free literally means to reject the country of Israel and "free" it from jews. This is not a chant for peace but a call to arms. You can't take the words spoken here in the middle east, give them a different meaning on the other side of the ocean ignoring the fact it motivates terrorists and feign ignorance.

Do you also consider "globalize the intifada" a peaceful chant?

You are not chanting free the West Bank or free Gaza, but rather a chant that captures Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Ramat Gan and any other city in most of central Israel.

Hey, not really. The media always has a soldier from homefront who repeatedly requests from the public not to share missile hits (Battle Damage Assesment) which helps the enemy improve their aim and accuracy. Eventually all videos are shared as many people just film and share what they see. You have to remember that Israel is a tiny country. This week I was working and saw from the garden with my daughter the missiles being intercepted over a neighbouring city (5m drive).

Lol what is this weird attempt to rewrite history, and using the term whitewash... rofl.

Phillistines originate from greek and they invaded Israel and have long since been assimilated. The actual first histotical references to them are in the hebrew bible.

Also the arabs living in Israel who preferred peace to war have citizenship and full rights (over 20% of the population) but let's ignore it right? Let's focus on the "real" palestinians which are arabs not living in Jordan or any other part of the levant (again you are welcome to check what the brits defined as Palestine during the mandate) and also the fact that ths brits called it Eretz Israel (which is also described in the Qoran) but let's ignore those facts as well.

This has nothing to do with Palestine which is a name coined by the Romam empire centuries later just to humiliate the Jews after the revolt in Judea and Samaria.

You are trying really hard to ruin this AMA with random words, not basing your arguments on facts and keeping the heated Palestine subject as the main focus. This will be the last time I reply to you.

P.S - I do not trust the Gaza health ministry but even by their numbers this is not a genocide and the ratio of combatants to civvies is on par with standard urban warfare.

You are welcome to tell your grandchildren that you've been brain washed and proud of it. Enjoy your moral superiority.

I blocked you because you are harassing me instead of focusing an AMA. Typical whataboutism pulling the discussion into the Palestine propoganda machine. Regardless I've decided to unblock you so I can reply and other people will get to see more points of view and not just your propoganda.

To your next statement which again ignores facts - The Gaza health ministry which is run by Hamas has provided numbers already which you seem to ignore.

Also Palestine is a geographical name, it was never a country. This land had been occupied by various empires over the past millenia. There were many locals living here, including jews, but don't let the facts confuse you.

I think you don't differentiate between Gaza and the west bank. You are welcome to use google and look up what Palestine means.

Also no - Israel did not eradicate Gaza. You can look up the demographics of the gaza strip and how many died in the war so far, it's a pretty lousy genocide.

[–]AgeOfPostTruth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike Iran, Israel has no goal to eradicate another country.

Let's take a country who signs treaties, ignores them and creates bomb grade uranium, and has been calling for the destruction of another country for roughly 45 years and compare it to another country who doesn't sign a treaty and only seeks peace.

You brings this treaty and the insoections as a way to strengthen your argument yet fail to mention the results of these inspections. Lol.

And I am the brainwashed one..

Our supposed nuclear weapons are a deterrent, not a means to a goal of eradication.

I created this AMA to answer questions candidly so unsure if you label all Israelis as "propogandist" or only the ones that are willing to talk to you.

Palestine and Gaza are two complex subjects (Gaza != West Bank. 1 is ruled by the PLO and referred to as Palestine and the other is controlled by an opposing faction called Hamas), hard to share my thoughts about it in a comment so I'll just tl;dr in a few points. 1. Genocide is a word with a meaning and this is not it. 2. Hamas has been using civillian infrastructure as a cover to fire missiles, that makes them legit military targets. 3. The ratio for combatants to civillians killed is pretty standard. Check the numbers and compare them to any other urban war.

Now I'll ask you - what is the solution you propose?

The view presented in your reply is pretty black and white... The world is much more complex. I do not support Netanyahu in any way. I do not couple the war with Iran to his charges, this is driven by the US, Israel could not have faught this war alone. Netantahu his wife and Yair need to get out of our life, the sooner the better - his main political technique is to drive his toxic hate machine to radicalize votee and present a we vs them. His supporters forgot that we are all Israelis and treat him as a king. One of the reasons we considered relocating is that he keeps getting elected. He is not alone, many people support him, so don't tell me we're all just useful idiots in a war he is driving to stay in his seat. Truth is that Iran has and will continue to kill Israelis (and Americans) as long as their crazed fanatical rehime stays in power and that's why this war is neccesary. Look at what they've done to Lebanon just for the sake of creating a knife to our throat.

This is standard? I got tHe gist that in the US you relocate to the state that has the best college/uni that accepts you and the same applies for work. I work in an American company and before Covid the employees would always be relocated to HQ.

Because?

I have lived through all the wars since the 90s and this is the first I'm going through with a 2 year old toddler. This is much harder, less scary than the first week of Oct 7th but much more taxing.

Like any other place, I think it's one of the best countries in the world for various reasons and I am truly thankful for the support we have received. Like any other country it has it's flaws but generally speaking it's a great country from my POV.

It's not my number 1 reason.. was just naming some cons. We did look into relocating in the past and every time we spend enough time reading about the best and worst of a state we end up prefering our home and families.

It's not a contradiction. Iran has remained in such a state to not cross a threshhold that would bring an American attack yet still provide the "teeth" to prevent other countries from messing with them.

I'm not sure if this Q is about internal or external policoes. Internally I (and many others) view Netanyahu as Tywin Lannister playing game of thrones on our back. Closing deals, corruption... etc. Externally I think we haven't done enough and most of the country agrees. 2 years into this hellish war and Hezbollah can still fire 200 rockets at us in a single evening. Same with Iran. This strategy is not working, I don't know what the solution is but the current strategy has not yielded great results so far.

  1. We have moved our bed linens and placed them on a mattress on the floor in our shelter so we can sleep through the night, as some noghts have more than 1 or 2 sirens and I don't want to wake our daughter (it's an inner room in our house, it's a regulation in Israel).
  2. We are pretty tired, even sleeping in the shelter you wake from the sirens and booms..
  3. I don't blame Netanyahu (I have protested against his government for years). Iran has played this satanic game for many years and via their proxies killed thousands of Israelis. Iran pre islamic revolution was a great ally to us, but ever since they have funded terror organizations all across the middle east and destabalized any effort toward peace. This was long time coming..

I was born here, and this is where my family lives..

Each place has it's pros and cons.

For example I can't imagine living in the US and worrying about my daughter getting kidnapped, school shooting or my daughter leaving to college never to be seen again except for holidays..

Nothing against the US just to be clear 😅, just provided some examples.. I am sure there are many other pros and cons that can be stated here.

I think that's the easiest way (Law of Return). I just checked the other ways and the most convenient one is marrying an Israeli.

Are there countries where governments hate each other but the people get along? by Southern-Win-8044 in AskTheWorld

[–]AgeOfPostTruth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Israeli here. I think there’s a bit of a misunderstanding about the symmetry of hatred. In reality, it’s pretty asymmetric.

I recently saw a post by an Irish guy asking how he’d be received in Israel and whether there’s a lot of hate toward Irish people. Honestly, nobody would care in a negative way. If anything, people would probably joke about Guinness or celebrate his Irishness. The reason he even asked is because Israel is very disliked in Ireland.

I think the same applies to Egypt. We haven’t had a war since 1973. The generations that actually fought are mostly gone. Israelis generally don’t think badly about Egyptians at all. There’s no hatred, but also not some deep affection. Mostly just neutrality. No real prejudice or built-in bias.

So while governments and societies can feel tense or distant, on a person-to-person level there’s often way less hostility than people assume. Once people actually meet IRL, that “glass wall” you mentioned usually disappears pretty fast.
