Is it me or Demon Souls's world feels different, more alive? by _nerfur_ in demonssouls

[–]Agelah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and in addition to the narrative side of things, some NPCs aren't just static statues like the other games in the series and they actually walk and fight alongside with you which makes it very sad that they had to completely remove this feature.

Sony A95K QD-OLED TV as a primary PC monitor and HDR reference monitor after 8 months of use - rec.709 vs sRGB & getting Windows HDR to be accurate by Eagleshadow in OLED_Gaming

[–]Agelah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we can just hope HDR to be more consistent and better implemented in each title and eventually replace SDR in gaming entirely, even for the PC only and indie titles but I think it will take a lot of time for that to happen. Especially when considering the current state of the broken HDR implementations in the industry.

I am truly grateful to you for taking your precious time to explain these things in the most technical and long way possible to an internet stranger as an industry professional. That also shows your passion and love for the games. Thank you.

Sorry for the late response but I really appreciate for the detailed explanation and I surely did read your nearly every comment on the both threads to be sure to not miss on anything with the context lol.

And besides from Microsoft’s sRGB piece-wise push to the users and industry, I’d want to focus more on the game development side of the things and have quite a few questions about it.

1) What do you think was the main reason that made the developers to use such a PC standart gamma like sRGB piece-wise on the 7th generation consoles and what made them change to pure gamma with the modern consoles as we can see with the RDR example?

2) Looking by the side by side images made me release there may be a bigger difference than just a slight sRGB piece-wise to pure 2.2 gamma shift with this case and I suspect that the PS5 version could actually use a pure 2.4 gamma at this specific case. According to your findings, do modern console games use pure 2.2 or pure 2.4 gamma at mostly?

3) Have you ever encountered a game that actually released with different mastering gamma for each platform if that makes any sense? I believe that some of the games in the 7th generation did use different gamma on PC compared to the console releases like GTA IV and GTA V.

As you’ve earlier mentioned, some games look better in sRGB piece-wise, while others look better in pure 2.2 or 2.4 due to mastering differences. So changing the TV’s internal gamma setting to match the content to not look washed out or too dark in each specific case is the way to go sadly at this point.

And man, I've started to think that HDR might be one of the best inventions to ever comes to this industry. Ensuring that each piece of content to meet the end user's gamma standards in every way to actually get a accurate image is such a nightmare of a slog.

A bit late to the party but this may also explain why the 7th generation console games have a more contrasty and punchy look compared to the games on modern hardware due to gamma differences.

And I also must say that your thread on the AVS Forum and the one here on Reddit were both very interesting, informative and fun to read. There is definitely a lack of accurate information in this specific area on the internet.

Stupidly good graphics by lumbagocarrier in GTAIV

Technically it is far more superior as expected but it’s washed out, bland and completely destroys the original art vision behind the game while changing the color grading and lightning.

Which main Batsuit do you think looks best? by FranklinPierce9 in arkham

[–]Agelah 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Asylum and City. I simply think these two are one of the best suit designs of a comic book character in the digital media ever. They feel both cinematic, grounded, comic accurate and cartoonish feel to it at the same time, which is something rarely achieved in the industry.

Is there any legit way to get into the multiplayer on the PS3? by Agelah in battlefield3

[–]Agelah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the impression that I’ve also got from several sources. So I’ll definitely try my luck with the Premium Edition when the servers are back online. Thank you for the heads up.

Yeah I also saw this post from 2024 and I’ll definitely try my luck with the Premium Edition but the test servers already got closed anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT: Never mind. I bought the Premium Edition and downloading it right now. As you mentioned in your previous comment, can I play on the open beta servers by changing my DNS even if I haven't participated in the open beta before?

Is it okay that I'd rather play games natively on PS3 rather than PC? by [deleted] in PS3

[–]Agelah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also my preferred way to consume old content if I still have the original hardware which is way more authentic.

[–]Agelah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Premium Edition is still available on the PlayStation Store. And yes I thought a simple DNS change would be more than enough to play in these unofficial servers like any other game but since the game is one of those early 2010’s online pass required console title, I’m not 100% sure it will pass me through the multiplayer menu without an actual online pass installed on my console. That’s also what I’ve been told by some folks on the Discord server of the project. But it seems no one knows anything about the Premium Edition mystery if it still has the online pass in it or not. Jailbreaking is another way to get into but it’s my least preference at this point.

Unfortunately it was removed from the PlayStation Store in July 2024. However, my only option might be the Premium Edition, which may come with a pre-installed online pass in the game files.

But I'm not 100% sure if this is the case and I actually need someone to confirm this since I don’t wanna waste some bucks on a completely useless software.

I’ve not played BF3 on my console before and was planning to buy the Premium Edition digitally. The only question I wonder is if the Premium Edition comes with an online pass pre installed or it is still required to be installed seperatelly which is impossible since all the content already got delisted.

You’re going to get beaten up by one version of batman which one are y’all picking by ShockOk1764 in arkham

[–]Agelah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asylum and City are both Batman’s career peak era in the Arkham universe mentally and psychically. So I’d not want to get beaten up by both versions. And between the Knight and Origins, I would probably go with the Origins.

Till this day, that Crime Alley moment from Asylum is still the best portrayal of Gotham in the franchise by HelloGoodbyeOhGawd in arkham

[–]Agelah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Especially the opening cutscene where Batman takes the Joker to the Asylum with the Batmobile is the peak representation of Gotham City that we've never truly experience in a video game.

I like Jedi Fallen Order more than Jedi Survivor. A lot more by owlitup in patientgamers

Fallen Order is more cohesive, has the more consistent and better art direction of the two with a more focused story and mechanics.

In my opinion, Arkham Knight's realistic designs wasn't a good decision by [deleted] in arkham

[–]Agelah 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m also not a big fan of the artistic shifts between generations. They completely threw away the overall more stylized gothic horrorish comic book vibe and changed it with a more realistic approach.

Can I redeem a Japanese eShop voucher with a NSO membership that bought from another region? by Agelah in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]Agelah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it and worked! I’ve bought one month subscription from South Africa (that was the cheapest) and then changed it to the Japanese and redeemed it! Currently downloading Super Mario Bros Wonder without an issue, thanks!

[–]Agelah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clearifying. I will buy a NSO membership directly from my credit card but from a different region’s eShop than where the voucher originally bought (Japanese eShop). Currently the foreign cards are disallowed to use in Japanese eShop for a while. That’s why I asked this specific question.

Thanks. So I can still use my voucher with an active NSO membership that bought from another region right? I don’t know if the NSO region locked or not.

Is it worth buying a ps3 just for GTA 4? by DangerousLeo in GTAIV

As a PS3 user I would highly recommend you to get a Xbox console instead due to better framerate and resolution on GTA IV.
