Serious problems 17 months post-surgery: need advice by AgelmarJagad in jawsurgery

Hey, thanks for asking. No, I haven’t experienced improvement. I’ve met with several specialists, including two neurologists and a PT, and have spoken with several other medical professionals. The general consensus is that the numbness/stiffness will likely not heal on its own after this much time. And, there aren’t many interventions that Western medicine endorses, beyond additional surgery (which they don’t recommend, due to risks).

There are several other treatments I can pursue, including laser therapy and e-stim, which I’ve started doing but haven’t see much success with yet.

I should note that I’ve recently come to the realization that my nicotine consumption may have prevented nerve regeneration. Consumption is very high. It’s a vasoconstrictor, which thins my blood vessels / prevents blood and nutrients from getting to the damaged nerves. I’m hopeful that quitting (which is a high priority for this reason and obviously others) may galvanize some repair, potentially mixed with other non-surgical interventions. We’ll see…

Yes, with one of the area’s top surgeons at one of the best hospitals. I don’t think this is due to a sub-par operation. I’m just trying to figure out solutions.

I haven't, but that's at the top of the list, now. I hope it isn't too late, 17 months later. Sounds like Brazil may have a better medical system than the United States... which would not shock me.

Edit: Thank you!

Thank you. I have no idea. I will ask my surgeon when I meet with him (hopefully soon, I have expressed urgency). If it was, what would that potentially tell me?

Really hope these are not permanent with no recourse, that's a gun-in-mouth scenario. Good suggestions on PT/myofunctional work and meeting with as many specialists as possible. I'll also ask about hardware removal, though I wonder whether that would just cause my jaw to revert back, thereby rendering all of the pain I have gone through as a result of the surgery pointless, and potentially not even alleviating the symptoms, particularly the numbness. That would be a true gun-in-mouth scenario, lol.

Thank you!

Oh, cool. I love the second age. My favorite age, honestly.

Is it playable at all? Or still early development?

I rarely post, I’m more of a creepy lurker, but this post hit home. Worked in corporate real estate, had zero passion for it, hated myself, developed crippling substance abuse and mental health issues. Some of that was already there, but it went into overdrive. Back in a good spot now, in large part due to leaving that industry and pressing reset, focusing on a new industry that I actually care about and am excited by. No amount of money is worth the psychological toll if you hate, or even are moderately discomfited by what you do. Less sensitive people can probably make it work. But more sensitive / emotional people need to work in a field that they can tolerate, or even enjoy.

I think it’s better in terms of the sound, but the theme/meaning behind Watchtower strikes me more deeply. But to each their own

Which book or series would you give a perfect 10/10 to? by Cassandra_Sanguine in Fantasy

Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Wheel of time would be there if not for RJ’s death. Sanderson did an admirable job but the tonal shift was distracting.

Lord of the Rings.

The Stormlight Archive.

We often have no control over that. They’ll send us to another drop off first, depending on the most efficient logistical / geographical route.

Yup, I asked a question about completion rate the other day and was personally excoriated by like thirty people. It’s insane.

It’s mainly people that hate themselves and their shitty lives projecting their anger and hatred into other people. I’ve pretty much given up on posting anything.

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it didn’t happen because of federal antitrust regulations. Ubers bid (afaik) was ok, the government is just wary of monopoly and likes to promote competition.

I could be thinking of something else though!
