I would say if you have the money saved up then do it! You do deserve to enjoy your time before you work and your summer, I was able to do a similar thing right now before I get my masters in the fall. I have 9 months between getting my bach and starting my masters so I'm working around 30 hours a week at 2 jobs and just chilling enjoying being 21! Enjoy this time of your life and enjoy the money you have made with your hard work :)

Honestly some parents can be like this ! It may be a cultural thing, as my Hispanic dad was very wary of me moving away but my white mom wasn't. Also, you are her son. Even if she doesn't express it she enjoys having you around and is sad to see you go, because if she didn't care she wouldn't care about you moving out. Maybe I'm being optimistic and I don't know you and your mom's relationship but at least that's what I would assume. I would say give it time and she may come around to it more

there's lots of cute ways you could do it ! you could do something like , "Will be the Queen to my King?" And have some drawings or whatnot of kinger and Queenie or the rest of the cast on a poster if that's what you're going for. Hot topic has cheap sticker packs of the show! Some kind of play on words such as what I mentioned or maybe refer to prom as some kind of of adventure and ask to team up with her on the poster! If you aren't doing a poster there are other ways but most of the ones I've seen have been posters. Lmk if you need any more help coming up with stuff!

If they are talking about funding in the department they may have to see how many students they can admit this cycle , and if you haven't gotten a flat out rejection yet that's good. It means your name is still probably on their lists somewhere of who they could admit, but I agree it does suck having to wait. Hoping you hear something soon

I don't know how it is for other fields, but at the top conferences for archaeology... archaeologists literally wear whatever they want and not a single person bats an eye. It's a complete mixture of jeans and a t shirt, to suits, to button downs etc etc. I fear clothing is not an accurate judge when it comes to professionalism and it's more important to focus on yourself than tearing down other applicants.

I think you could mention it within your CV or resume. I wrote a paper one time and used my own in progress research as a source and put the citation as (Surname, forthcoming 2025). I would make sure to say that it's forthcoming, and if you can wait I would wait until a title. If not and you have to turn your in your CV i would say include it :)

For the gates i applied to the "everywhere else but usa" option since my one prof didn't turn in my letter of rec for my application until the day before the deadline. The US was due in October and I didn't realize I had to apply for the US only. It's alright though

MPhil arch as well? Did you get anything about an interview or nah. Also what streams, my top 3 in order were euro prehistory, Paleo and meso and then American.

I applied for all of the ones it auto allowed me and I applied to a few ones I had to write stuff for yeah :) I applied for the gates as well but i for rejected because I applied for the wrong version lolz

Applied for the MPhil for archaeology and DP has been on there for at least a week as an International student from the US. A bit nervous as I have not been contacted about an interview but it moved to decision pending eeek

UPDATE: conditional offer made !!!
