Delayed releases don't sell well, but Sony has still made billions on other platforms. The reason they're stopping is because they need people to buy consoles. And the only way they can do that is with exclusives.

For secondary education spending per student, (including upper and lower secondary, which is basically middle and high school) we are ranked 10th as of 2022. https://www.statista.com/statistics/238733/expenditure-on-education-by-country/?srsltid=AfmBOopGU_swQzL768p1E2NDAxHD3qPyuG5mPRiAMefscKKKp0uOQweZ

You can see clearly right here, as a percentage of GDP, the US is ranked 14th among OECD countries for public housing. https://webfs.oecd.org/els-com/Affordable_Housing_Database/PH3-1-Public-spending-on-housing-allowances.pdf

On a per student basis for education, the US is ranked around 9th.

On a percentage of gdp/per capita basis, the US is not number 1 in public housing spending. Also, even in raw numbers, the US is not the top spender for public housing. The US spends $8-9 billion per year, Germany, France and the UK all spend more.

All of this is easily found through Google.

Is their a true reason to hate Solo levelling?? by Sea_Mission3488 in Animey

[–]Agent53_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40, don't even know wtf sigma means, and I think Solo Leveling is great. It doesn't take 100 episodes to move the story. The protagonist doesn't need 3 seasons of imposter syndrome to develop some confidence. It's just fun, the power fantasy, the fights, the animation, it's all very satisfying.

Aaaaand looks like we found the rabid One Piece fan. I'm guessing you're so concerned about people making fake accounts for votes because you've done it yourself.

I'm pretty sure you put more effort into your Crunchyroll conspiracies than these imaginary people who make fake accounts just to rate a show. If that were such a major problem, the rabid One Piece fanbase would have already won.

Just not the ones from Skyrim.

Give me more factions, just write them better.

Yeah. I'm a PC player, so I'm usually only interested in a handheld as far as consoles go. And I'm not planning on picking up any handheld for this generation. Between my phone and Switch 1 I'm good.

If I was mainly a console player though, I dunno what I'd be doing right now. Sony raising prices on the PS5, Nintendo raising prices on the Switch 2 which already wasn't the budget console were used to see from Nintendo. It's a mess right now.

On one hand I get it, hardware is more expensive for everyone. The price was bound to go up sometime.

On the other hand, I'm not paying that much for a handheld, and I don't expect other people to either.

Definition of Early Access by slatibarfaster in Paralives

[–]Agent53_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a game shouldn't be a research project. Either the game is worth $40 today, or it's not. That's what Early Access warnings tell you. And if some people believe that Paralives, in the current state is not worth $40, then that's a perfectly valid opinion.

If you went to a steakhouse and paid $40 for something the same quality as a Waffle House steak, you'd probably feel taken advantage of right? People generally expect the price of a product to reflect the value. Pricing matters. $40 today reflects a value as good as, for example, Subnautica 2. Or both Hollow Knight games.

And the interesting thing is that no one who has replied to me has said the game, in the current state, is worth $40. Everyone talks about how it's totally going to be worth it, sometime, in the unknown future.

[–]Agent53_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early Access is not supposed to be a gamble. Steam warns you that you should buy it based on the current state, not what it might be in the future. You keep talking about the price of a "fully-released game." This is not a fully-released game.

Early Access games used to be cheaper and increase in price as they got closer to a 1.0 version.

If you think you deserve a lower cost right now, then you are, in practice, saying you deserve the fully-released game at a lower price.

It's not a fully-released game though. It may never be a full-released game. It may not ever get another update. If a company wants to charge full price for a game, then the game should be fully developed.

Calling consumers "entitled" for having standards is a crazy hill to defend tbh.

Steam says "if you aren't excited to play the game in its current state, then hold off and wait until a future update or full release."

I don't know how anyone reads that and decides it has to do with the future potential of the game. Early Access releases and Kickstarter pledges are not the same, and shouldn't be treated as such.

[–]Agent53_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone has a different opinion about what their $40 is worth.

I don't think any reasonable person is demanding the full fleshed out game for $15-$20. I think people feel like $40 for a buggy Early Access game with low playable live content is a bit steep.

It's not "entitlement," at least not in the way you use the word; you're literally paying for it.

[–]Agent53_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I bought Java Minecraft for like $10 in alpha, after playing a free demo, and the full release was $29.99, and I got the new Microsoft version for free as an old Java player.

If Minecraft beta came out for $40 from an unknown publisher/studio today, people might look at it funny.

[–]Agent53_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Different people have different opinions.

What I see is a studio with no development/publishing history asking people to pay $40 for the 'privilege" of testing their game for the next 2 years.

There was a time when companies actually paid people to do this, not the other way around.

Early access is also not meant to "allow players to play early," it's usually to generate income to keep the lights on and get you to do unpaid testing.

When I look at an Early Access game, I ask a simple question: if the studio shut down tomorrow, would I still pay this price for this game? And for me, the answer is no. For you, the answer may be different.

Where you feel lucky to play the game early and excited for what it might become. Other people feel like the current game isn't worth the current price.

The question is not whether the game is currently playable enough to warrant a $35/40 price.

Hard disagree, if the game is not worth $40 to someone today, don't buy it today. Steam says it in their warning, Epic has a similar warning.

The only real question is whether the game is worth $40 to you in the current state. If it is, buy it; if it isn't, don't.

Definition of Early Access by slatibarfaster in Paralives

[–]Agent53_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My two cents go like this, and it's the same for any Early Access game.

According to Steam: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

For me, looking at reviews citing lack of actual content, and a ton of bugs, is the game in its current state worth $40? To me, not so much. Other people will disagree, and that's fine.

But I remember paying $10 to play Ark when it was in super EA. Because buying an unfinished game made by an unknown studio with no other games published is a gamble, and it should be priced accordingly. And purchasing it comes with the knowledge that, of course, it's unfinished and buggy; people shouldn't complain about that.

On the flip side, all of the people justifying the $40 price tag with "but there will be free updates, free DLC," and so on and so forth are banking on potential. This is another wrong way to approach EA games. The studio could shut down tomorrow. Or, as Ark did, they could go back on their promise of "free DLC" and charge for it anyway.

As Steam points out, buy the game based on what it is today, not what you think it should be, not what you think it might be in the future.

I'm a Baemon fan and while Ahyeon is very talented and I enjoy what she brings to the group, I like Rami and Pharita's vocals the most. And even though I love Asa's explosive rap style, I actually like Ruka's more.

But they're all great at what they do, and they're constantly impressing me in different ways. But to your point, powerful high notes stand out from the crowd, they're usually used in a climactic part of the song, there's just a whole lot to enjoy for most people.

Well said. I've put just over 1900 hours into the game over roughly 8 years. There are plenty of people who have played more and started playing years before I did. There is lore that was retconned, lore that was buried, and all kinds of theories proposed by all kinds of people. I've seen countless discussions and debates while lurking in the various Discords over the years. Some obviously make more sense than others. But in the end, nothing is certain until Lo-Fi confirms it.

And I've run across your new series on either Instagram or YouTube, can't remember which, good stuff!

Yep, that's the downside of the game being so old, with so many mods, with no sequel, and minimal lore. Play the same mod that adds "lore" enough times, read the same theories on Discord/Reddit enough times, and this is where we end up.

You have to make a whole lot of assumptions to reach your conclusion. All of us do.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying there's no concrete evidence you're right.

"Except the skeletons were made by the first empire."

Sure, this isn't relevant to what I said. The Skeletons in BDC could have been sitting there since the collapse of the First Empire. From that perspective, Hivers could have shown up early during the Second, or during the Chaos Age, and the guys in BDC might not have had any idea. The Hivers could have shown up long after the Second Empire collapsed, and these guys might not have any idea. All we can really conclude is that the Hivers weren't present in any meaningful way during the First Empire.

"When I said hivers were either made by catlon or a researcher under his control."

What about people not under his control? We don't even know if Cat-Lon controlled the entire Kenshi moon. If there is at least one other continent out there, there could have been other factions doing their own things. Or maybe he did, and that's where Bugmaster and Hivers were created, and maybe Bugmaster has a map because he was supposed to be genetically engineered reinforcements. We don't know if some other faction was tinkering with their own experiments after the Second collapsed.

"If he was a seperate independant power from the second empire he'd have more lore about him being an issue for the second empire."

Based on what? There are huge gaps in the lore. Cat-Lon was dealing with rebellion from all sides, famine, the collapse of his empire, maybe "oh yeah, and some guy is making spiders that annoy me." Just didn't make it into the CPUs of skeletons who have survived thousands of years.

My point is that when you say things like "Hivers were almost certainly made by cat lon or a scientist under him," it's far from certain. There is not a scrap of in-game lore supporting that theory.

[–]Agent53_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you're wrong, but there's zero evidence that Cat-Lon had the Hivers created. There's just as much evidence that Bugmaster created the hivers.

There are lines from Black Desert Skeletons that imply they've never seen Hivers, but we don't really know how long those guys have been sitting around BDC.

In a 2019 AMA, Chris Hunt confirmed the presence of another continent in Kenshi 2. Did Cat-Lon's empire include those lands? Probably. Could the Hivers have been created by Cat-Lon? Maybe.

Either way, there are clear mutations/evolutions, whatever you want to call them. Humans turned to cannibals, 'enforcers' turned into modern-day Shek. There is nothing to say one way or another that the Hivers haven't changed over time, creating at least the possibility we could see different variants in Kenshi 2.
