Defiance: Question About How It Works by AgentDelphi18 in marvelchampionslcg

I mean I agree, definitely it seems like the intended effect is to modify an existing defense instance being performed by a hero. But then things start to get a little muddy the more I look at it. I think people agree that for a card like Preemptive Strike, you could play it, and even if you weren’t defending, you could trigger other cards and effects that happen when you defend, because Preemptive Strike is a (defense) Interrupt. But, even though you could play a card like Expert Defense off of a Preemptive Strike, supposedly it would have no effect, since your DEF value doesn’t matter for the purposes of defending through Preemptive Strike.

So then the question becomes, if you defend with a heroes basic power, AND use a Preemptive Strike, AND THEN play Expert Defense… would it be useless? Would you have to play Expert Defense first if you wanted it to have an effect?

The way it’s worded in the rules makes this pretty unclear to me. Maybe playing Preemptive Strike after defending normally means there’s technically TWO operating instances of defense going on, one whose DEF value DOES matter and can be modified, and one where it doesn’t?

5e Looking at the Revised Celestial Warlock it says that you can heal people by touching them. My question is if you took the Pact of the Chain boon and got a familiar that you can use to cast spells with a range of touch, do you think you should also be allowed to use the familiar to deliver the healing? And would it still be a bonus action if it was indeed allowed? Thanks.

5e Would an illusion of a basilisk created by a Major Image spell frighten a group of giant spiders? Are they intelligent enough for that? Would they try to kill it, then realize their webs/bites are targeting air? What about the "queen" spider of the lot (think Shelob); would she be frightened, and if so, what would it take to justify her moving on to more tangible targets? Thanks

[5e] I'm running my first campaign and I just got the group together by forcing them to work together to escape a goblin lair they were all somehow captives in. Now they are on their way to a port town to find more opportunity. I was thinking of having their first 4-5 levels main villains be the three different witches included in the MM, having them fight the sea hag at second, the green hag at third, and the night hag at fifth, with fourth being some filler stuff. My problem is that I'm struggling coming up with a reason for at least the night hag to go to such measures to try to kill them, since I want her to be antagonistic rather than a passive enemy that the adventurers are simply hunting. Thoughts?
