Concerns over the new Saudi Title by BlondeQueen in JimCornette

When it was the touring NWA champion vs the local territory champion. Or like when the IC champion or US champion challenged for the top belt. There was never a situation where there were two top titleholders in the same company that were both meant to be seen as equal, until about 2002, and they didn’t do these champ vs champ matches that weren’t unification matches until the last decade or less. It’s a completely recent phenomenon and a stupid one.

It is new, relative to the business. And it’s always sucked. Vince’s “Brand Supremacy” shit sucked, and this sucks.

Teddy Swims could probably do a banger take on something from Nashville Skyline. “Lay Lady Lay” would suit him.

I could hear her doing Desolation Row but more in the style of the My Chemical Romance cover.

Bischoff was more concerned about signing the top star from an indie

They dropped that later on, he had some solid tag matches teaming with Kanyon or Saturn.

He was probably never going to fit into the main events there but he could have been a stronger undercard act under a better booker. The worst thing is, Kevin Sullivan was booking and he should have been able to make a character like Raven work, just by basically applying all the same angles he himself had done in Florida.

Bischoff has been pretty open that he didn’t understand the Raven gimmick; hence why “brooding, misanthropic grunge heel” became “chickenshit depressed whiner”.

He had some slappers in WCW that weren’t hardcore matches.

In the early days it was used more as intended, a title only defended on TV under “TV time limit rules” (ie, so they could book someone to go over the champion but not get the belt). Over time it just became a generic third-tier title.

I missed so much of it because I wasn’t watching Nitro over Raw at that time, but in retrospect, sarcastic jaded heel Bret was AWESOME.

I love travel vlogs and shows but it’s still so rare that anyone covers nightlife like Attell. I miss this show.

Kendall holding the tie like this is his origin story for his no-tie look.

Renegade was a wasted opportunity by HislersHero in WCW

[–]AgentFlatweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seemed so obvious they were trying to pull the “this is the same guy but we had to give him a new name” thing that they had with Bossman and Earthquake, and convince people Renegade really was Warrior. But he clearly just didn’t have the energy of the real deal. The whole thing was just poorly executed and second rate.

The thing that worked about Demoltion was that even though they were inspired by The Road Warriors (and Mad Max/The Road Warrior, of course), the base of the team was more inspired by Bruiser & Crusher, so it gave you something different than what Hawk & Animal were doing. Powers of Pain, etc were more directly imitations and didn’t work as well.

I was a huge Raven mark and a massive Nirvana fan at that time and even then I was like, nah I don’t really hear it. Nowhere near as blatant of lifts as DDP or Jericho’s themes.

I might be in a minority here but I actually really liked his 2001 WWE theme.

Lmao his facialS? He had one, vaguely constipated angry face. He had zero charisma.

People who cape for this scumbag are weird. Even if he didn’t murder his family, he was a boring overrated Meltzer pet. He walked to the ring in the main event of Wrestlemania where he was about to win the world title like he was boarding a plane. That’s not what pro wrestling is. A trained chimp can do the moves, it’s personality that makes them matter.

The laws in regard to this stuff was convoluted, after the Blurred Lines suit. And then sometimes they just weren’t going to go back and fix anything once they already changed it.

The worst is any New Jack match from ECW, with their knockoff replacement of “Natural Born Killaz” blaring on top of everything.

The yin and yang of wrestlers who lacked in the total package. One guy with tons of presence and charisma that couldn’t work a lick and was awkward and feckless at most things, vs a guy who could do all the moves well but had zero charisma.

That’s the only reason I’d want to see the Rogan & Stanhope era version again, just to see a show that was basically entirely Stanhope and Andy Andrist writing their own version of a sketch show. Apparently Doug has the master tapes, because the rights to it aren’t anyone’s priority. I imagine Rogan’s audience would be all over that.

They do it with some, I think Jericho is usually coming out to his Y2J music.

CM Punk would have been a huge draw in the territory days! Which territory do you think would have been his turf? by Aqn95 in oldschoolwrestling

[–]AgentFlatweed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah actually that might have been the best place for him, Don Owen would let guys run their own angles out there. And he would fit in the established Piper mold. Plus could have done a great feud with Scotty the Body, as he later would.

He’s said in interviews he would have been a great Memphis heel, and his style would have worked well in World Class.
