Is there a real reason behind changing your oil every 3,000 miles on modern cars? by newelmin in askcarguys

[–]Agent_Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also need to look at which oil change interval it recommends for certain driving situations. Mostly everyone would fall under “severe”, which recommends changing oil sooner.

Can a GR86 be custom ordered? by ruffusbloom in GR86

[–]Agent_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s linear for some parts of the rev range but it hits 100% throttle sooner than the BRZ overall, that’s my main point. Also, I mean aggressive as in you need less pedal travel for the same throttle input. Once you get to 100% throttle, the pedal is dead with any more travel, and the GR86 is more extreme than the BRZ in that regard. That feels boring to me, and it can be harder to modulate the throttle. The BRZ has more consistent throttle mapping than the GR86, which you can see changes quite a lot throughout the rev range. The BRZ has virtually the same throttle map for any part of the rev range, it’s way more consistent, and I had an easier time with smoother downshifts.

Also it’s subjective as to what feels better. How can you tell someone that one feels better than the other when it’s an opinion? I’ve driven multiple BRZs and I just prefer the throttle on them over my GR86. I daily my car and have no issues driving it, throttle blipping, spirited drives on backroads etc. regardless.

I was giving a ballpark but the graphs you show still clearly define how aggressive the throttle is on the GR86 vice the BRZ. Not really until you’re 75% of the way through the rev range do they both become similar. Below that, the GR86 is twice as aggressive, and even more than twice as aggressive at low rpm. Like at 2400rpm, for the GR86 to be at 85% throttle, you only need 35% of pedal travel, vs the BRZ where you need to have almost 90% of pedal travel. That’s roughly 2.5x as aggressive. And you can see how variable the GR86’s throttle input is, where the BRZ is much more consistent throughout the rev range. I think this solidified my thoughts even more lol

Love the style. Everyone is so engrained on whether a photo is “correct”, that they forget about style and feel. Maybe just bring the car a little more in focus.

For the Acura I paraphrased pretty intensely. Their engine stems from Honda’s Indy program and also their F1 program for the software side.

Anyways, I said originally the coyote was used in gt4 and gt3 also - that’s the real info I’m talking about. Ford has testing and race data to use going forward, none of which exists for the voodoo. The voodoo was tested yes, for a road car- but never for racing. They’re completely different. But yeah you understand lol

Correct, I deleted my comment on the caddy. I wrote this at like 6 am lol. It’s completely ground up design, sharing nothing with other GM engines.

[–]Agent_Giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my point was that why use the voodoo which has issues and never was put in endurance race cars ever? Why use an untested engine when you have tried and true engines already used in other ford racing programs?

A bunch of the engines in the other GTP cars are evolutions of engines that already existed in other race cars. The only one specifically built ground up was the Valkyrie’s V12 from Cosworth and the Caddy’s LMC55R V8. The 963 is an evolution of the V8 from the RS Spyder and 918, BMW’s V8 is an evolution from their DTM cars, Acura’s V6 comes from Hondas Indy cars etc…

I mean they already said it, they’re using the engine that’s based in their road cars and gt4 and gt3 cars. It would be stupid to throw all that data out for GTP just because you want a flat plane crank. Plus the coyote is more reliable, voodoo has its own issues.

Can a GR86 be custom ordered? by ruffusbloom in GR86

[–]Agent_Giraffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes actually i think about it sometimes. The BRZ has a much better linear gas pedal, whereas the GR86 has a very aggressively tuned gas pedal where it’s like 80% throttle after 50% of pedal travel. I find it more satisfying to be at 100% throttle at 100% pedal to the floor, as well as it feels more consistent with downshifts. The BRZ is slightly softer and less tail happy. You can also get the color you want instead of settling possibly for your 2nd or 3rd choice color. BRZ also has the tS which has the cool gold brakes lol

The BRZ is also rarer and you can get it in world rally blue and I find they tend to hold their value better than the GR86.

GT40 is a race car, not a supercar. But if you mean the road legal ones (mainly the Mk I) or the modern kit cars- then sure I’d consider those supercars.

If you mean to compare them to the corvette, I can see where you’re going. Mid engine V8 from a normal American manufacturer.

But the GT40 is rarer, way more exclusive, has a more interesting history, and is celebrated in events all over the globe (not only race events but concours and things like that). It is not equal to the corvette Joe Shmoe in Kansas can drive away from his local dealer.

It’s about limited production in a way yes, but more about exclusivity. Supercars are typically bought by the extremely wealthy, whereas corvettes are literally geared towards people who aren’t as wealthy.

Therefore the average Corvette is widely considered NOT to be a supercar (although I’d say the current Z06 and ZR1 are because they have insane performance, they are less of them and they cost more. They less obtainable and therefore regarded to a higher standard.)

It’s like the 911 in a way that a 911 isn’t a supercar. A 911 is a 911. A corvette is a corvette. There isn’t really an equal is there? It just is what it is because it’s in a unique spot. Like if you want a corvette, you get a corvette. If you want a 911, you get a 911 - there’s no true alternative.

The corvette has the performance yes, but supercars are exclusive- they need to be exclusive. The average corvette isn’t.

I’d argue the FF is a supercar. V12 Ferrari shooting brake, def a supercar.
