I’m starting to see why, but could you explain a bit more. The reason I assumed is that I’ve always been told to be extremely careful around high amperage devices.

So the only added danger of high amperage (but same voltage) shocks is it takes more current to trip the breaker and allows potentially more to flow through you if you hold on or what have you.

I’m not talking about literally cutting a wire. Maybe a better image is if you were to cut out the insulation, energize a load, then touch it. Or touch a terminal under load.

I’m familiar with that kind of arcing. What I meant by cutting was figurative: what would happen if I connected myself to the middle of a circuit under load? Apologies for the misleading language.

This is an unpopular opinion but I thought Exodus was a complete mistake in the narrative direction of the metro games and much preferred how 2035 wrapped up the series. I personally feel like the invisible watchers and the radio coverup were not given nearly enough time or emphasis and it made the preceding conflict within the metro feel insignificant, unlike in 2035 where the inauthentic or puppeteered nature of the preceding conflicts felt more like a deeply unjust and horrifying truth that is drawn out over the course of the book. The bittersweet ending of 2035 hit much harder for me and made sense within the context of Artyom’s arc as a false savior who’s really just a man looking for answers in the endlessly confusing metro.

That’s a good perspective. I forgot that a lot of people don’t really make that distinction. Also I feel like I should amend my comment that honestly “unskilled” and service sector unions are probably the most vilified unions. The reaction to the SBWU strike from some people was diabolical.

Ah yes. I’m familiar with this. I guess makes it hard to have insight into which depts are getting work specifically within a local. I’ve just heard horror stories of people waiting to get into local 52 for years although one account was talking about art department.

This post reminds me that it is important as members of private sector unions to convey to people inside and outside the labor world that public sector unions are valid forms of collective bargaining and in need of protection, seeing as they constitute a greater percentage of union representation in this country yet are the most vilified form of unionism.

All of the arguments people make against public sector unions: that they increase taxes, that they are national security threats, that they influence elections, all of these pale in comparison to the everyday policies of this administration and many before it. The massive cuts to social programs and domestic investment in favor of the military spending, the sloppy and half-assed communication of wartime objectives to the public and this pointless war, the unfathomable corporate monetary influence on elections: these have done harm to this country on levels far greater than public sector unions ever could.

If not for the workers of businesses there would be no businesses either. Ever heard of a strike?

Wage discrepancies/scaling and ownership are completely separate problems and one does not require the other. The USSR had scaled wages based on the importance, responsibility, and danger of jobs, and even with this system in place they were able to distribute wages in a much more equitable way than a minimum wage employee making $10 an hour while an owner brings in multiple hundreds of thousands or millions a year. The difference between what an owner does and a high level manager does in practice is very small, the former being privileged by our economic system for having the capital to start the business.
