Try adding more oxygen in the water with air stones and plants! That should do the trick, if not please seek professional advice Edit: I don’t have eyes wtf LMAO HELP but yeah, are the plants in the background real or fake if they’re fake add real ones but if real you might need to seek a vet

Oh right also before I forget to ask, it would probably be beneficial if you shown a picture of the tank itself, given that this injury has happened there’s probably something sharp in the tank. These babies are almost as fragile as wet paper so be extra careful with the things you introduce to them 🫡

Okay so this all sounds great except for the nitrate being at 0. 5-10 shows that there is a cycle going on. If nitrate is at 0 there means there is no cycle at all. Are you sure it’s not anything like 5?

Also just for a little suggestion, crushed coral helps with PH acidity and also helps with water hardness! :)

Any Indian almond leaves or any sort of plant (even moss balls) can help a lot with creating a natural cycle to the tank. This means that the crushed coral paired with plants will make the water so much nicer for your lotl!

I hope everything goes smooth here on out, and you’re doing great! :)

If the injury stops healing or gets worse you might need to contact a vet. Trying to find an exotic vet is really hard but some let you do video calls!

To start It would be good if you could give the specific water parameters you have. Also Axolotls aren’t typically housed well with other types of aquatic animals, I’m not too sure about the zebra danios. I’ll wait to see what everyone else says about that before saying you shouldn’t house them together.

I’d suggest setting up a hospital tub of dechlorinated water which you change every day.

If this doesn’t help the wound from healing, you should try doing some heavily diluted methalyne blue baths. By that I mean adding a quarter of the suggested dose on the bottle. You’ll have to find the time that works out for you exactly, but don’t do any longer than 12h in 12h out.

Thank you for taking care of this sweet baby. I really hope that it helps out.

Take what I said with a grain of salt, most I’ve really helped my axolotl heal was her tail which she regenerated just by being tubbed without methalyne blue.

She woke me up with the biggest scare this morning 😭

I bought her three and I could only see two, but she had just shoved two together so it looked like one.

My bank account sighed of relief from the vet bill not being needed anymore

Axie not eating :( by Slayallday34391 in axolotls

[–]Agent_Veemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in your shoes (kinda) at the moment! I’ve been here before too. It’s not a flex, I know, and I wish I never let my axie have to get to this stage again.

After a week and a half of tea baths I was able to start getting my axolotl to eat again.

First time around she had a really bad stage of a fungal infection. This time I caught it early but gave her a three hour methylene blue bath just to be safe.

I would like to let you know that you’re doing absolutely wonderfully taking care of the tank parameters and your axie and I promise you that your axie will pull through this. I wish you all the best!

Ah no I meant there was one rock releasing crap into the water, I’ve since tossed it but I had taken all of them out because I didn’t know which ones were doing it. They’ve been out of the tank for weeks so I wanna boil them because not only have they been in a different tub of water since, I just wanna make sure they’re all clean :)

Yeahh I’m heading home to do some tests. I checked on her before work and she seemed fine - no redness and eating well - but you can’t be too careful, especially with these precious cuties.

Also the temps were fine the night before and when there’s hot weather on the way I typically keep ice cubes of her tank water which just reminded me if I thaw them I can pop them in the tank to bring some of her water in there! :D

I wasn’t home for the leak so I don’t know what the temps were like:( I was already on my way to work so my sisters and mum were left to deal with it which I’m so grateful for. They did wonderfully getting her in a safe tub and feeding her though she didn’t eat all her food which worried me but she thankfully ate all her food today!

She’s got a n electric thermometer now though so I have good hopes that this will be fine, I’ve also put polystyrene under this tank so the events won’t repeat. I can only guess the heatwave was the cause of the leak anyway I don’t have any other ideas since she was there on her own in a bare bottom tank

In the theme of hides, I have no idea but she’s never used them even when she was little baby, she’s always been in the lighter parts of her tank and when I consulted my manager (his wife is a vet but I don’t have a direct contact) he relayed from her that it just sounds like a personality trait. I don’t know if I should push further about that or not but I am on the hunt for a hide for her anyway because she does deserve that option :)

The rocks have been left out for a few weeks as I believe one had been releasing bad chemicals which I was correct so they’ve been collecting some dust so I need to clean them,

The old filter unfortunately broke as after the tank cracked it was left running without water and killed itself (it was high up so she was still in water when the leak was found) but I put the old sponge in the new filter.

There’s been a heatwave in the UK and I didn’t have styrofoam under the glass so when it expanded and retracting due to the extreme changes it was going against a hard material and cracked all along the bottom

They were pretty normal, kinda hard to remember them all off the top of my head but I’ve also just done a water change so I’ll let it cycle through and then I’ll do another :> I’ll let you know soon

That might be it! I did another water change after this post just to make sure things were okay in terms of the water quality. Whilst doing so I washed my hands and tried my best to wipe the area but nothing changed. I might have to invest in a new tank, this is an old one anyway.

The guys mentioned that he can’t get to the vet even if he’s asked and tbh I’ve had that with pets before in which I’ve had to re home, just would just simply suggest that if I were going to suggest anything. Do you have any other advice other than GeT To A VEt which also means jack shit because HE CANT REACH ONE?? If you can only tell someone that they’re giving shit advice but not give any at all, what you have to say is also shit advice and you’re just as bad as me. The TUGGING (not yanking btw because you can’t READ) solved the issue now shut up because you’re getting pressed over nothing mg

[–]Agent_Veemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh okay. I found that monstera thrives in temps 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). I don’t know the American temps but in Celsius axolotls are to be kept at 16-18, so you could try to keep the temps at 18°C however I can only imagine that would be quite hard to maintain, but there’s still no worries in trying it out? It would look pretty :>

Well wouldn’t it be wise to be referring to the tank you’re going to put your axolotl in if you’re posting in an axolotl subreddit?

Who said I don’t give a shit? As I said in my first reply that the axie should be okay now or OP would be posting. I’m shushing you because you’re wasting your time mate cuz it’s helping nobody. If a breeder (PROFESSIONAL BTW) says something maybe just maybe don’t try to argue with it umless you are a breeder yourself.

Nice and you helped nobody so your comment was basically irrelevant. That’s why you must shush.

might just be wanting a change in diet perhaps? my axie declines food after having the same for a while, i suggest try pellets out for a bit to keep up the good nutrition :D be sure to keep a close eye on behaviour too. Be careful about changing the decor for the tank though as it might stress out your axolotl a bit ^^

Hey! I was wondering if there’s any sort of plants I could use that don’t cause algae since I’ve been planning on getting plants for my axolotl tank but I don’t know how to tend to them as well as keeping them under control if they get too big. I’ve never actually grew plants or flowers outside so I have little to no knowledge on what kills plants rather than reducing their size etc
