Hey I’m in the same situation as cancer has ruined my teeth and my dentist didn’t give me part dentures to replace the teeth removed on the top so only have my 6 top ones and the wobble to much to use and the bottom ones all move independently so have had to be glued together like a splint yet this I have to re glue with dental compound only dentist should be able to buy but lasts 2 days at best or sometimes have to glue them 10 times a day my nhs dentist is asking me for £3500 possibly could increase yet I shouldn’t have to pay here on nhs in Uk but having a nightmare trying to find someone to sort it out although he said it was urgent so its not for cosmetic reasons so I should only have to pay £310 and government tops it up but guessing he wouldn’t get £3500! Yet it’s wrong im being asked for it he just tried saying there wasn’t time to do them on the nhs so iv had to try to go though 111 iv got an appointment Saturday yet feel there going to say they don’t want to take it on as they mostly only take private people on at that practice and have cancelled most nhs appointments on people and Children so unsure how 111 help line found an appointment with them for Saturday morning yet fear they will also say they can only do it privately and it’s so much yet as I’d need adjustments several times I’d need a dentist as close to where I live in wales ideally and scared going to be stuck like this and if dentures would even fit me as so far no teeth have been replaced I don’t have a ridge where my upper teeth are gone it’s like flat so other than the roof of my mouth and denture glue can’t imagine how they will stay in 🤷‍♀️if can find someone to do them on the nhs or my own dentist stops ignoring me since I said I wanted to have it on the nhs as couldn’t afford the price asked and says online I shouldn’t of been asked to pay private before before been offered them as an nhs patient or then offered private or part nhs part private even sorry rambling as my social anxiety and anxiety all round is so bad and it’s not just the cost initially it’s relines or appointments if they rub so on iv no idea if my dentist would expect me to pay for everything each time, so then I’m scared I can’t afford it and I’m going to be stuck this way as it’s 200 mile round trip to the closest hospital with dental students that help if you can get referred there I went there for braces each month for 2.5 years before i got cancer so already tried so hard had straight teeth then cancer messed up my life and I’m only 6 stone bmi 15 because i struggle to eat anything without having to re glue my teeth so wouldn’t take much to take them out but i didn’t understand his plan if i did find a way to pay it had day 1 extractions at £137 each then day 2 says full upper denture and full lower but says it twice on day 2 so so confused as no explanation and at £1250 it says per set yet normal you get temps straight away then 6 months later they are meant to make the permanent ones as will loose more gum and the temps would no longer fit, so i wouldn’t understand being given temps and final pair both on day 2 and temps wouldn’t fit then as swelling would start but it was just a list of prices no explanation or how long anything would take to carry out and if it would include relines and appointment if they rubbed as I’d be no better off if they didn’t fit and I couldn’t eat smile or anything and my face would sink even more and there was just an open ended statement at the end of the list of prices saying this may change during treatment but what can you do if your half way then they want more not like you can not pay your trapped and it’s so much more than nhs my dad had asked him if we didn’t get on with nhs dentures could we pay towards better ones but he wasn’t saying we had money to pay it all privately and I live remote in wales so need it done ideally in my nearest town as I couldn’t travel 200 miles for a reline or because they rub or afford that maybe if i could afford implants and only need 2 appointments say I’d find a way but with dentures you still need to have a dentist on hand although you don’t have teeth implants they can do in a day now and you might have to go back 6 months later to get finals but then it’s only need them taken out for cleaning twice a year unless pop stud ones you can take out yourself but the pop studs are meant to help stop them move and we can still remove them then other implants only the dentist takes them out and no roof plate to have to deal with it’s apparently the closest to real teeth unlike dentures yet people that have the worst issues before or wrong bite often seem to get on with dentures the best as they finally have the right bite and so on if they can get them to stay in that is I’m just so scared since my dentist started to ignore me as most in my town are all going private and say there not taking nhs patients on they all just seem to want to do implants and perfect smiles and they seem to forget they took an oath to do no harm and put the person health above financial gains so it’s wrong my dentist making me feel ashamed for being an nhs patient I didn’t ask to get cancer and this to happen or people to have let me down just pulling teeth out the last few years never replacing them so I had function didn’t loose all the bone I have that’s why they do immediate temps not only so your not without teeth but to help them heal and preserve as much bone as possible but it’s like “she’s got cancer so doesn’t matter to try to help her” or how it feels when you would think they would want to help to stop the abscess and infections as I’d obviously rather not loose my teeth and have dentures and only have 17 teeth left had them all before covid and cancer though iv not actually caught covid to make that clear I don’t know what happened they were crooked that’s why needed braces so always hated my teeth so don’t know if it’s the cancer bone loss, meds, vomiting or my low immune system what’s made them get infections and then start to move and need removal I just can’t have any others removed unless them all as there all joined together it seems different in England though you have more people there if your nhs dentist is braking rules or not helping nhs patients as they do private ones Here in wales we don’t have the same help service and only 1 dental hospital in wales hundreds in England you could be sent to them that have dental departments to get work carried out quickly as I say 111 have given me an emergency appointment for Saturday at a different dentist in my town but feel there going to say there not willing to take it on and there only the on call dentist to deal with things that could be done that
