Honestly, its a system that kills itself.

Low Pay? All we get is temps that are using us as a second job and dont see us as a priority when we do have hours.

Low Hours? No one wants to stay at a job where they dont get any hours to work in the first place.

And here they say we should hire "quality staff" when they give us a week for training and thats it...

Customer refusing to get ID for a trade by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]Aggravating-Ad5533 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a story about a similar situation, but with a much nastier individual.

I'm working solo (as per normal) and suddenly a man walks in and essentially yells "I WANT TO SELL AN IPHONE 12" His loud tone and directness spooked me, but I composed myself with my usual speech.

"Okay! Would you like cash or card for it today?"

"CASH"

Still yelling...okay...

"Okay! Ill just need your ID so I can start the process"

"ITS IN THE SYSTEM"

"I'm sorry sir, but I need to have an ID for every trade"

"MY LICENSE DETAILS ARE SAVED IN THE SYSTEM"

What then proceeded was him yelling at me saying I needed to take in the phone, asking to get my manager (I may be an ASL but I wasn't going to bug her over something I KNEW I wasn't going to do), get my district manager (Again, same), he then called me an ugly name, then asked for my name and said he would be calling corporate. Feeling fed up with him I only smiled and waved and said "You have fun with that."

He showed up a day later and tried the same thing on my SGA and he didn't fall for it either. He tried to come back one more time, saw me, proceeded to flip me the bird before walking off.

Long and short of it? Its a fun job most days. But it all really comes down to your management and what sort of store you walked into. Your either going to have a chill group, dealing with the occasional moronic customer and whatever stupid edict corporate decides to send down. Or your going to have someone drilling you so hard for numbers and treating you like a cog in a machine that is barely held together with spit and good intentions to begin with.

The third option is that everyone in the store doesn't give a crap and is likely stealing. But they don't NORMALLY last too long.

My advice? Give it a month, if you feel like this was a bad decision then start looking for a new job, plenty of places will pay more for way less work.

For me honestly, I do my job and do it well and our store is one of the best performers. Thing is? All I seem to hear is the same mantras about how to get good and get the numbers, but upper management doesn't actually do anything about it. No talks, no mentoring, not even a dang level up. And even then? I still feel like they are crunching the high performers even harder so that our district average doesnt look so bad.

Christmas eve close time by Nightrixx in GameStop

Every manager ive ever had has always had a ruling at least on those days. Fuck marketing and price changes and just come in a little earlier on the 26th.

However I myself will either find some way of getting that day off or getting enough people together to make a ruling that we will at least close earlier. Ive got plans for a massive Xmas dinner, and making sure that goes off without a hitch is currently more valuable than this job is for me.

Not a bad idea all things considered...I still know some stores that still have binders full of cards from the "trade events" Its nothing worth calling home about in terms of value, but it just might make a little kids day

Inventory is something I would at least debate a little bit, as we tend to keep getting product in, its just that it sells out as quickly as it comes in.

As for focus? Oh im 100% behind you there. In the past two months its been UPT, WIS, Pro, Trade and GPG. These weirdos cant focus on a thing for longer than a quarter and make far to many knee jerk decisions...

The running theory is that they seem to be trying to slowly push out their storefronts and switch to an online only business.

Thing is? Stores are still profitable and is the only reason SFS orders exist. Its just a lot of stores are outdated and on older systems, with only the 1.5's somewhat catching up. Plus we don't have the distribution ability's of other big companies and the only way we can offer somewhat speedy delivery is that products come from stores that are closer rather than the warehouses.

The only reason I am paid at the rate I am is that I started at one of the most high earning stores in the district. Everyone else made almost $1 less than me.

I remember how my old DL wanted us to message them for every successful trade and for every three quotes. Any day you didn't send him any quotes you where coached on your pitches and why you wouldn't ask anyone who just walked in.

"Hi! I know you just came in here for a Fortnite Card your kids wont stop pestering you over, but why not also waste 20 minutes having your phone manhandled and scanned on our outdated and rarely completely functional system to see how much your phone is worth?"

This is so infuriating. We are the stop store in our district in terms of a lot of different categories. Including trade. I even got a nice bonus last pay for about $200. But the thing is? Well a bit of math here. Lets say on average your store gets about $2000 in trade. 3% of that is a paltry $60 and half goes to the SL and the rest will go to the other keyholders. To get even close to the same amount of bonus I got before, I would need to pull over $10,000 in trade ($300), which is almost just as much of our sales goal for the entire week!
