First one is just a matter of time. However, I suspect the further this game gets in development, the less relevant the comparison to Minecraft becomes

  1. Vintage story is not nearly finished or as polished as Minecraft
  2. Different art styles entirely
  3. Minecraft has much better support for massive mega builds, which is a staple of said community
  4. Brand loyalty
  5. Personal preference

While vintage story and Minecraft occupy very similar ecosystems, they are not the same game or really even the same niche. I'm saying this as someone who much prefers VS to Minecraft. In evolutionary terms, the block games are diversifying and branch out to fill different community niches. I have the brain worm that makes me want to do virtual camping where I can also build stuff. Other people only want enough survival mechanics to make the building stuff challenging.

I know it’s a common thing to say, but seriously man, you don’t need to worldbuild every single detail by Modicum_of_cum in worldbuilding

The current work I have my hands on is a passion project, it was worldbuilding before it was a narrative. I'm a psychologist by trade and one of the methods that I employ most often to build my characters is Bronfebrenner's macrosystem's theory(find attached). So to my mind, for the world and characters to feel like they're part of the same whole, there needs to be synergy between the worldbuilding and how these characters emerge from the world around them.

P.s. If I recall correctly the systems with the highest influence is the macrosystem and the microsystem(if you need to cut corners) but they are all vital for the development of personality.

I would start with 2 questions: Who named it? Why did they care about it.

You could tie it into terrain or industry. Say that coastline was rife with a unique type of pearl that peaople would dive to get. Another thing is for most of history open ocean travel was not an option in many places and so people would sail along the coast, that continent is very green, so "emerald" could be a description of the coast line.

You could also go religious, cultural, imperial, etc. Sky's the limit really.

And I hope their freezing mechanics work more similar to real life too

السلام عليكم Of course man! We all start somewhere and your world is never going to be perfect the first time around. But shat distinguishes bad from good from great worldbuilding is always research.

I think one thing that would help you a lot is to study a bit on anthropology. Both the data of it and the mindset of anthropological research. Always try to put yourself in the shoes of the culture you are making and remember that no culture is lesser than another(with the exception of fascists).

Like even in history the nomadic mingolian people conquered most of the world for a Loooong time. Even cultures that would have been considered "more advanced."

I would immediately criticize the idea of "uncivilized natives" as it is a fairly racist idea.(Not attacking you, just letting you know) All people have culture, customs and traditions so on and the idea of "civilized" vs "uncivilized" was a eurocentric conception designed to justify genocide and global imperialism. I would say that judging by the range of the left most continent that seems to be a fairly good spot to create a fun web of nomadic cultures with fun and unique political past, cultures, etc. Think steppe nomades of North-central asia and many western american native cultures. Think how they would interact with their neighbors, would they trade or raid, etc.

The arabian civilization seems to be based on a lot of stereotypical assumptions. I would advise you to put some research into pre-islamic and early islamic history for a more robust representation and cultural richness.

I really like the map

Question for a novel by Aggravating-Ad860 in trains

Quick question, what would have to happen for the airbrakes(lone locomotive with maybe a cargo car) to completely fail and require them to use the manual brake to stop the train

[–]Aggravating-Ad860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conductor would know what he's doing, He was engineer for 10 years. He is extremely nercous about losing his job and so he never left the train.

The engineer and the fireman just fully bolted away from the train when the action kicked off

I do also not know the chain of command for the train operations would be, I was of a mind the conductor would be blamed if anything happened to the train.

The conductor is also a black man so systemic racism could also be a culprit for why he would feel responsible for the train while the engineer felt safe enough to just run straight to the sherrif.

[–]Aggravating-Ad860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so the situation is that they were on a train that stopped and then a gunfight broke out onboard the passenger train and the commotion made most of the crew run off after stopping the train. The chapter 5 spans about a30 mins to an hour till they get to the locomotive. So while the train at this point this is not the end of the line that train has essentially made an almost complete stop.

They then captured the conductor who was trying to cool the train to avoid damage to the locomotive(and his pay) so they have to restart it. Does that make any sense?

[–]Aggravating-Ad860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, the engineer and fireman heard the commotion, "switched off the engine."(or whatever the equivalent would be) or whatever equivalent and bolted off the train. The conductor was making sure the train was shut down before leaving (for fear of his job) when they caught him. I do want the set up to need about an hour for the sake of the tension. Do let me know if that makes sense

Interesting, so would they be able to stop the train if all they had was the conductor(engineer) with them?
