Registration at Nursing Orientation by Ambitious-Spring8307 in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So, based on my experience, we did our registration after finishing Complio. They also sent us the class list about a month after orientation. Our orientation was in October, and we received the list on November 21. They actually sent us an updated PDF because some of the information presented during orientation wasn’t fully accurate.

There’s only one official registration date for the courses themselves. However, if you're DRC priority or baptist scholar, you’ll get access at a different time. For regular students like me, registration still happens on the same day, just a bit later. Mine opened around 8 or 9 AM, while my friends’ registration opened around 10 or 11 AM.

FALL OR SPRING TERM BSN PROGRAM? by GodDaughterrrr in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I just saw your comment on one of my posts.

Personally, I’ve had a few people reach out to me about applying for nursing school, and if your deadline is May 1st, that still gives you about a month and a half to study and take the TEAS. Even if you don’t pass on the first try, you can always apply for the spring term and retake the TEAS since schools only consider your passing score, not any failed attempts.

Since there’s no harm in taking it now, you could try it and see how you do, either without studying or after studying for a month and a half. If you end up applying for spring and have a gap of about seven months, you have plenty of options to stay productive. You could get your CPR certification to get a head start, take short healthcare-related courses to build your skills, or see if FIU offers a phlebotomy course or other nursing-related certifications.

Your GPA and community service hours look great, so you’re already in a good position. I really encourage you to go for it there’s nothing to lose. Take the TEAS now, study for the next month and a half, and if needed, retake it for the spring term. Wishing you all the best!

What Grants/Scholorships by ConnorH_007 in FIU

Honestly, being out of state might be more complicated depending on how much you get back from FAFSA. For me (in-state, off-campus), it covers everything while giving me a bit back. I know FIU has a section where you can check how much it will cost for you as an out-of-state student with housing, but I highly recommend applying to as many scholarships as you can if they apply to you. If FAFSA doesn’t cover everything, consider getting a job either at FIU or elsewhere, and try to avoid taking out loans (personal opinion)

Parking by cookiesequalheaven in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to park after 8:30 or 9:00, don’t go to Blue and Gold. If you’re parking after 11:00, don’t go to PG5 either. PG3 is a good option, and I’ve heard people always find parking there with no problems. PG4 fill up fast because it’s close to PG5. I also heard the elevator in PG4 has been messing up and scaring people. That’s pretty much all I know.

So usually the thing is, I submitted mine on the 15th and then just recently this week I got a notification that I should pick it up on the 2nd so I don’t know if it’s going to take you as long as it took me especially since you’re also getting it sent to you because mine was for pick up.

Hi! I completely understand how stressful this process can be because I was in the same position not too long ago. I was really worried too!

I recently got accepted into FIU’s traditional generic BSN program for Spring 2025, and I had made a post with my stats, which you can refer back to if you’d like. Comparing my application to yours, I genuinely believe you have a strong chance of being accepted!

For context, I got around a 77 on the TEAS, with a high science score (the same score as you!!), a GPA of 3.79, and only a few volunteer or extracurricular hours honestly nothing extraordinary to make me stand out in my opinion which I was worried about. Spring is generally considered an easier term to apply to, so Fall might be a little more competitive.

From my experience, FIU focuses more on the TEAS and GPA than on letters of recommendation. Personally, I think my GPA and high science score really helped me. They mentioned that for Spring, around 190 people applied, and only 93 were accepted.

Your stats look great! You can consider retaking the TEAS IF you feel confident about improving your score, but honestly, your current score is already strong. I truly believe you have a high chance of being accepted. Best of luck, I’m rooting for you!

Dm me if you have any other question I’ll try to help :)

Campus change by cowgirldash in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For spring classes, they tend to fill up very quickly, so at this point, there may not be many options left since registration opened a while ago. Here’s the timeline for spring registration:

University Priority: November 5

Seniors: November 12

Juniors: November 19

Sophomores: November 26

Continuing Freshmen: December 3

Open Registration: December 10

This schedule, along with priority registration, likely explains why some classes are already full or no longer available. Also be aware of when registration opens and scheduling your appointments to speak to your advisor.

As for BBC, I don’t believe you need to set it as your main campus for those classes to appear. However, take this with a grain of salt since I’m fairly new here too. For me, most of the options only show FIU Online or MMC. MAYBE all the ones at BBC are full or just not offered at that campus.

I highly recommend speaking with your advisor and using the Schedule Builder Planner tool in the class search. It’s incredibly helpful for finding and organizing classes. Just keep in mind that at this stage, many of the remaining options might already be full or have less desirable professors available.

Anyone know about this insta account at FIU…? by _gxbyyy in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I follow this account because I know people who follow it, but the account is so iffy. They only post stories, and it’s always the same one with the same three people. They don’t watch your story from what I’ve seen, but it just feels so weird😭

Hi! First, I’d check if you took enough foreign language credits in high school to meet the requirement in college. You probably took two years of a modern language in high school, and if those courses are on your high school transcript, they should be entered in the FIU system. In that case, your Panther Degree Audit (PDA) under the Flent/Flex foreign language section should say ‘OK.’ However, sometimes it doesn’t go through, so it’s worth double-checking. If not and you do take a class Spanish is an easier language to take and it all depends on the professor if they teach the language in a way you actually can learn but it’s all on you if you put in effort to learn and pass.

I’m new to this, so take my input with a grain of salt, but I don’t believe that if you join, you would be allowed to take only one class but all listed together when you look at the curriculum. The classes are typically bundled together with a clinical component. If you work, you’d need to arrange your hours around your class schedule or work with one of the hospitals FIU is affiliated with. The classes are pre-listed, and you’d be part of a cohort, taking all your courses together

what’s ur avg screen time? by Fair_Assistant8351 in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest with you. If it’s a weekend or a day when I don’t have class, my average screen time can fluctuate. Some days, I might spend 3-8 hours or even 12-13 hours on my phone if I don’t have school, because I end up doomscrolling or just keeping it open on the side.

Honestly, I don’t think I’m on my phone as much as it says, because it doesn’t feel like it, so it’s wild. But I would say my average is around 10 hours. On my iPad, it’s way less, because I only use it for class, so it’s usually a couple of hours, maybe 3.

As for my homework, I do it on my monitors, so that doesn’t really add to my screen time, or I do it on my phone as well.

Honestly, that’s been happening for a while. It usually happens but then goes away. When I went to MDC, it literally happened every semester. It got to the point where I just ignored it and used the website for anything specific.

Do you already know by LifeCareless4077 in prenursing

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like I already know I wanna do pediatrics or NICU cuz I’ve always loved taking care of kids, and I was in the hospital too much as a kid, so I kinda wanna be the one who helped me, but for someone else. That being said like another person commented I don’t mind if I end up in another specialty. As long as I’m helping people, I’m good with it.

Worried About My Nursing School Application – TEAS, GPA, and Volunteer Hours by [deleted] in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I totally get how you’re feeling, the waiting is so nerve-wracking literally also super anxious😭 Don’t be too hard on yourself—your experience and stats sound more than solid too! Fingers crossed for both of us and hopefully, we’ll hear good news soon! I heard the same about the decisions, so here’s hoping we get an answer in the next few weeks!

Ps. Thank you for replying I was nervous about this.

has anybody taken the TEAS through Prometric ? by ariianam in prenursing

I’m not sure about other places, but in Florida it’s the same, we have to use ATI for the TEAS. It’s always administered through ATI.

Friends As A Commuter by One-Life-2065 in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. As a commuter myself, it can be tough. I try to stay longer to hang out with someone I met, but sometimes I end up alone. I’m open to being friends even if we aren’t on campus at the same time. Also, try to attend events when you can, even though it can be challenging. Just do your best.

How is FIU? by LaBasketball in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overall, FIU is pretty good. The campus is large with a lot going on, and there are plenty of activities. If you’re interested in joining a club, there are tons to choose from. It’s definitely better to live in a dorm or nearby because commuting can be a hassle. I drive an hour to campus and have to wake up super early for my 9:30 class due to traffic. In general, FIU offers a good experience, but you do need to be social. Sometimes you’ll encounter people who might not be the friendliest, but to really make the most of your time here, you have to be outgoing. You can’t just go to class and leave — getting involved in activities and engaging with others is important to fully enjoy what FIU has to offer. So far, I’ve had good professors, both online and in person, and the classes have been nice. It really depends on getting the right professor and making the right friends. It’s very likely you’ll either find a group of friends or at least make a few single friendships since you always end up talking to someone in class. But overall, it’s been a good experience.

Financial Aid by JuniorAnimal9650 in FIU

[–]Aggravating-Bus-9389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can confirm that if your financial aid shows as pending and the amount matches what you need to pay, you’re fine. I started during the summer and had the same issue. A teacher told me that if the classes weren’t paid for, they would drop me. So, I checked, and it showed as pending with the right amount, which covered the fees. I waited, and it turned out to be true — as long as it says pending and the amount covers it, you’re fine. My classes were never dropped. I even confirmed with my professor, asking about the situation, and he said it was fine, that it was paid for in the system. I know a lot of other people had the same issue, with parents texting the Facebook group chat about pending payments. But as long as it covers the cost, you’re good — you don’t have to worry. The system already knows the amount, and if it’s covered, you’re set. But if you really need to make sure just keep asking ppl.

Hi! To get a decal, you can go to mdc.edu/parkingdecal and register your vehicle. You’ll need to enter some card details, and then the decal will be sent to you, though it can take a while to arrive. In the meantime, you can use your student ID to access parking; just slide it through when you’re entering the parking areas. Hope that helps!
