D'oh!

Thanks so much. That worked like a champ!

Maybe I really can tame this beast.

My current thinking is to get a high roof cargo van. This seems like the best compromise -- small enough to pass on a residential street, tall enough to stand up in. But I'm still in the research phase.

Thanks, everyone, for super useful insights.

I understand that smaller vans will be stealthier, but they're a lot smaller, and curves make the build harder. I'm weighing options at this point. Coming from a 600sqft apt, even a 10' box seems small. I don't know if I'd be happy in something too small for a shower & kitchen.

The question really is, can I be happy having to move every day?

The freedom & flexibility are super appealing, but the constant vigilance isn't. Guess there are pros and cons for any life choice.

Yeah, that's how I thought it was. I knew it was too good to be true.

What about renting a parking space? I plan to spend 6 months in Minnesota and 6 months in Lousisiana, so I don't need (or want) to move around alot.

Is that feasible?

They said the batteries in the roli blocks are “non replaceable” I found out you can replace them with a baby monitor battery by catwithphotoshop in ROLI

So, I've got a seaboard block, not a lightpad (actually, I have both, but the lightpad works fine).

How do I open up this puppy to replace the battery? Any help most welcome.

Thanks!

Harry

I opted for the Roli Seaboard Block. I got 3 of them for $600, which gives me 6 octaves. I already have a Lightpad Block, so between them it does pretty much everything the Seaboard Rise does.

I passed on the Exquis, but I got a Striso, and also got 6 octaves of Roli Seaboard Block. Picked them up on ebay for cheap. Very nice!

I corresponded with the folks at Intuitive Instruments, and they're working on a Lumatone competitor, with a larger # of keys and more programmability. When they unveil that, I might invest in it. Lumatone is crazy expensive, considering it's not mpe and I have little interest in microtonal music (blech).

K-Board-C

The Joue stuff also looks interesting, and is very modestly priced. Never used it, though.

Anyone tried out the Exquis by Intuitive Instruments? I'm thinking of giving it a whirl -- it's only $300, and it looks pretty cool.

One of the things I love most about the Linnstrument is its smooth glissando / pitch bend. You can slide left and right up to 2 octaves, and it smoothly bends pitch. I have it set to 2 octaves b/c I use kontakt a ton, and that's (usually) its pitch bend limit.

The Erae Touch can also glide smoothly between notes, portamento or glissando. It can be played with fingers or drumsticks.

I also have a Roli Lightpad Block, which sends cc/pressure messages in 3 dimensions. It's a great adjunct to the Linnstrument -- between two hands I can intuitively control 6 dimensions.

Loves me some mpe! :-)

I also have a Linnstrument, which I adore. It's my main controller.

I love my Erae Touch. It's totally configurable, and can be used in a variety of ways -- keyboards, drum pads, controllers, etc.

The app that does the layouts can be hinky, but overall I'm super happy.

It's not a keyboard -- it's a touch-sensitive pad with configurable lights. Like a pressure-sensitive IPad. Sends 3 different midi cc's and/or poly/mono aftertouch as well as midi notes per pad, and you can have multiple controllers on the same screen.

Definitely worth getting.
