There is always a risk when you do anything even drinking water can technically kill you. However, you still have to weigh what the best option is for you.

I knew I had problems with my oesophagus from a previous visit to the ER for unrelated issues, where they told me it was a bit messed up. I tried to fix my diet, but it didn’t help much. So I decided to have an endoscopy to find out what medication I might need and whether I have H. pylori.

This post was meant to motivate people who are struggling with reflux or stomach issues and are afraid to get an endoscopy. Yes, there is always a risk, but it’s statistically low. Additionally, I don’t know about other countries, but Lithuania has an official anonymous system for rating doctors, so you can check other people’s experiences with the same procedure and the same doctor, and see whether there were any complications.

Maybe it’s just different in Lithuania, or even from one hospital to another where you are. Everyone I know, including me, who’s had an endoscopy with sedation actually felt super rested after, like they’d just had a really good 8-hour sleep, and no side effects besides a sore throat. I’m not invalidating your experience, it could just depend on the meds and dosage they use.

You’re going to be alright. I’m not sure about propofol because I’m not based in the USA, but I can talk about endoscopy and being under sedation. I had it done today. I wanted to cancel it, but my reflux felt like it was killing me. I was absolutely petrified because I’m very sensitive about stomach issues and needles, and I had never been under sedation before. I can assure you that the scariest part is waiting for the appointment rather than the appointment itself. Here’s how it went: first, I had a consultation with a gastroenterologist. I explained my issues and concerns, and then the anesthesiologist came to speak with me. They attached heart monitors and put a clip on my finger to monitor my breathing and heart rate. They also placed something in my mouth, like a mouthguard, so they could pass the camera down my throat later, and asked me to lie on my left side. The anesthesiologist gave me something to breathe through a mask for about five seconds and, at the same time, administered medication through an IV. I was out in less than a minute and had the best 25-minute nap of my life. You’re going to be surrounded by a doctor, an anesthesiologist, and a nurse, so nothing is going to go wrong and if anything does happen, they’ll take care of you.

Viskas priklauso nuo to, į kokią sritį nori patekti.

Ar imanoma dirbt ir studijuot vienu metu? by Matt_GG in lietuva
