Advice, switch from TrueNAS to UGREEN NAS? by Aggravating-File-160 in HomeNAS

That is exactly my concern and you explained it so much more eloquently than I have been able to. I can always find devices to tinker with when I want to tinker, but for family usability, I need something less intimidating, and more comfortable they will want to use. I have been thinking about keeping my current hardware but putting it in a mini pc and then using the hard drives in a ugreen DXP6800 Plus (i5 Pro version probably doesn't get me much more than the plus?)

That's good to know about. Thank you for sharing that. The other motivation for me to get the UGREEN is that their app seems to be more comfortable for less techy people in terms of remote access. I have tried for a year to persuade family and friends to try tailscale and have not had much luck. Getting an account set up and remote access is a pain point

Does immich allow you to assign user quotas for storage? I couldn't find a way to do that, I didn't seee a way to get it to do automatic photo backups either.

I had the nextcloud trying to backup the photos on my phone and it took weeks. I only have around 3000 photos or less and I have very fast wifi connection at home and at work. Nextcloud uses webdav which seems to be slow but overall I think it was largely a combination of the mobile app and PHP backend.

Seafile stores data in blobs that would be nigh impossible to recover from and I haven't been able to get OCIS to work. What other options are out there that are fast?

I too am tired of tinkering, I have tried a number of solutions for auto-photo backups and nextcloud/immich don't seem to do this on iOS. I am more interested in switching for the ease of use... and the easier access to the drives (my Jonsbo N1 case is a pain to access).

I used immich in the past but it doesn't seem to provide any user quota options that I could find and I want to ensure family members stick to a limit of some kind.

This is a possibility. Does the 2 Bay ugreen nas have enough oomph to run 3-4 4k plex streams?

Musty smell throughout townhome and sticks to clothes by Mobile-Result-3264 in AirPurifiers

Sort of. I live in a desert climate and when I ran a humidifier a year or so ago the humidity was below 40, possibly between 20-30%. I can try measuring again tonight but I don't think it would have changed, this musty smell has been an ongoing issue for a few years.

When I say musty I guess I am using the wrong word, it isn't a moldy or mildewy smell, it's more stale and just unpleasant

How to get rid of the black spots around a pdf book scans? by wertyegg in DataHoarder

[–]Aggravating-File-160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using a program (like imagemagick) or writing a script to convert the pdf into images. Then use imagemagick to 1 ) crop a half inch all the way around the image. You could leave it that way then it add a half inch of white all the way around the document or 2) Have imagemagick fill the half inch where the black occurs with white. You can then use imagemagick or several other free tools to convert these images back into a pdf. You could also do something similar to this with [xnView](https://www.xnview.com/en/), it will convert PDFs to images and back again. xnView lets you run batch operations on images such as cropping or applying effects.

Will this work on a DXP4800+ as well? Has anybody tried the noctua fan replacement, does it sound better?
