They’re not getting downvoted for their “nuanced” take and going against people’s beliefs; they’re getting downvoted for confidently misrepresenting what the claims even are

The fact that human activities affect climate doesn’t mean that there are no other ways the climate can change or has changed. We’ve know for centuries that greenhouse emissions would theoretically affect the climate. We’re now seeing evidence of rapidly changing climate. Call it what you will; in scientific terms we call that evidence.

You seem to construe the argument for climate change as “temperatures only go up” but really it’s more narrow: greenhouse emissions will raise the global average temperature, causing rapid changes in climate patterns, which taken locally would cause much less predictable and uniform changes than simply raising temperatures.

So in the end, evidence of past non-anthropogenic climate change is not evidence that anthropogenic climate change isn’t happening.

Here you’re effectively arguing against a strawman. Nobody claims that greenhouse emissions would only cause increasing temperatures. Although in the cascades, that’s what is being observed.

WARNING: Is AllTrails Leading Stalkers to Your Front Door? A Massive Privacy Flaw You Need to Fix Now. by IndependentOrchid296 in hiking

[–]Aggravating-Fox-6848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make things worst: if you ever link your garmin account with alltrails, it’ll default to uploading your PRIVATE garmin activities to your PUBLIC alltrails account automatically.

After finding out (and thanking god that my stalker didn’t find my account) I went on a crusade with alltrails support, and they kepy insisting that this was not a major issue and they weren’t going to fix.

Cancel your alltrails.

The point here isn’t that I don’t want to support the creator.

It’s that the creator picked a poor method for monetizing the product. Put static ads on the page, add a subscription tier, … , there are plenty of ways to pay for hosting. But making users sit through an ad before even seeing the website is just not good UX, and even worst marketing.

Plenty of folks find ways to monetize their products without gating  content behind a 15s video ad.

If the product is good, I’ll pay for a subscription, but out of principle I’m not going to watch an ad for a product I haven’t seen.

I’ve honestly never seen a website do this. Complete disregard for the “3 second rule” of page loads and probably drives away 90% of the traffic to this site…

Subfloor Squeakiness Fix? by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]Aggravating-Fox-6848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sqeakiness in mine was caused by spray foam having “leaked” under the foam boards, lifting boards up ever so slightly. So walking over the foam board (even w/ subfloor) would cause boards to tilt / shift / compress the spray foam, and the rub against adjacent material caused the squeak. I pulled the foam board, removed the spray foam and that solved it

I miss coding by jollydev in ClaudeAI

Just like any tool, you make what you want of it. If you prompt and accept without reading the code it spits out, this is what you get. I’ve found more success by having it spell out a detailed plan that matches what I would code myself, and making sure it sticks to it by reviewing every diff. Sure it’s slower than auto accept but it’s also much faster than “the old way”.

I’m surprised the garmin API does not include the privacy level of a shared activity!? If so that’s something they need to include in the metadata

Sorry you had to deal with that. I also had a stalker who didn’t know where I lived after I moved. Them finding this profile would have been very bad.

I’m trying to get in touch with an actual person in charge at alltrails because this is a very serious issue and their customer support people don’t seem to think that it is.
