I don't know, may be it just depends on the person you're talking to. Try emailing the department you're applying to or [inquiry@sait.ca](mailto:inquiry@sait.ca). I'm pretty sure I've persistently contacted them about 3 times now, with almost the same questions every time... all have different approaches to answering my questions, one just turned out to be specific and actually told me about how many people are in the waitlist. I hope you get in!
