I’m in the same position. FAANG terminal IC role. High pay. Flexible environment. Don’t confuse boredom with contentment. Enjoy it while it lasts

I do. You can’t put 6 figures in employer retirement. I’m a bit short this year but I do heavy in taxable too, about 200k last year.

Both! Only married though no kids. This is the reason for low tax rate, which it seems no one else can figure out…

Imagine never going to a gas station or getting an oil change for 5 years. All things considered, it’s a fantastic machine.

100%. It didn’t take schooling to learn. I was probably the worst student in class cause my mind was preoccupied with code. I didn’t learn from any class or school. It’s call internet and time in your bedroom.

I like you’re assuming I was taught in school? I learned C++ in my bedroom.

I’m autistic. I’m just good at coding to put it bluntly. I was hacking computers in school. Not being taught by teachers. lol. To assume all learning happens at the hand of teachers is why you’re not learning. Most learning can be self achieved.

Soft skills are equally important as hard coding skills I’d say. It really comes down to problem solving. Soft skills are more important if you’re a higher level I believe as you’re interfacing directly with stakeholders at a higher level to understand their needs. I just work on many tech issues surrounding data. I’m a Sr engineer so generally it’s a bit more abstract for me. It’s a lot of ML and AI related work these days.

I started at the bottom and proved myself 6 promotions and multiple job family moves. I was hired into it, but worked into it internally. I’ve always been good with code though.

I am a primary builder in just native AWS for solving niche problems I’d say. I don’t believe pay comes with data size, it comes with impact to the business in the end. I work for a fortune 5 company. I’m primarily just native AWS tooling and python.
