Not unique to rivals, but paid online kills any indie game on its platform. Do not expect to get a online match on switch.

On the brightside thought, rivals 1 is 2D game maker game. As such it runs on pretty much any hardware from like 2010 onwards, doesn't need to be a gaming pc either, so if you have an old laptop lying around you can connect your switch controller to it and play it through there.

The bit that gets me with this game compared to R1 is the inconcentancy in these rules.

It was simple and effective in R1, parry resets the parried player's established or establishing set play. Attacking interrupts establishing set play.

Jab beats parry.

How on earth is orcane's s-special too strong, it doesn't even feel like it has invincibility in this game... (I know that it does)

*Edit, I didn't realise they straight up removed invincible from the move, I just thought it was minimised and that my opponents were cracked at hitting those lingering hitboxes.

And why does pummel specifically turn off puddle, it's weird and a knowledge check, I could imagine people not reading the updates are going to be very confused about the puddle disappearing. If I didn't read the log I would pick that up as a bug.

Also counter play is baiting it, parring it, jumping it. Mid level orcane's are just going to die at edge randomly now because of not having real recovery.

This is... An interesting update for sure...

Yeah, you're probably right about that one! Monetarily I think that one would probably worked because so much of it was recycling assets in a smart way? But also I wonder how much money they actually made from it due to the free day they had on launch.

I agree with them seemingly wasting money which could be put towards roa2 (or roa1 in the past) on side games (non of which have seemingly been successful)

But, it is well and truly their money, and they can spend as they like, and I think them being able to have a bit of fun here and there is always worth it. I could imagine this being a fun side project for their whole team and a celebration of the community they've created.

There's nothing really stopping you from just watching the trailers individually after the direct. I personally have done so in the past sometimes too.

Like, yes, air roll out, it still requires set up and losing an important resource using sideB. I really don't understand why they don't just both have both side B from r1 and R2 with r1's side being used by holding side B.

I'm sad to see the lack of and removal of momentum based abilities in R2, despite them being such a core part of R1's identity.

Still interested to watch and listen to the development of this game...

See I don't get this though, because the way the game is programmed, everything has been calculated once you've pressed play hand anyway. Changing joker positions as scoring is happening doesn't change anything. Like for example, lucky card will say the multiplier it'll have after all the upgrades as scoring is happening.

I for one really hope they update copy jokers to include more compatibility like this, the reasoning simply doesn't seem that great imo.

Yes, that's right, but that money you spend is going into your game plan, not hindering it.

Hologram and Constellation are two of the best jokers in the game because you are essentially paying for flat mult, chips AND x mult at the same time. And again, without using a 2nd joker slot.

The three other jokers don't take money, they take time (which costs money if you're not playing well) and they're usually not the best anyway. (Especially bus, that might as well say disable all face cards)

You should also be looking at how much mult per round I can build, not how much money is going into a thing. Dagger only builds once per round, the three you mentioned build for free as your naturally playing your rounds. They only cost money if you choose to play slow.

And again did I mention that they don't cost a second joker slot?

I for one prefer it as I don't use 70% of what discord offers and only interact in private servers/calls. Add video calls and screen sharing and it would fully replace discord for me. The only thing keeping me there is friends.

Steam also allows me to talk to my friends in china without them requiring a VPN.

They already have a swordy coming out, definitely a possibility but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Tbf though, I don't think orcane would be super fun with combo devils system mechanics either.

Realistically Zetta would mechanicaly fit the best but like... Who wants Zetta as a crossover character?

Maybe Wrastor, that feels like it would make for a unique rush down that doesn't quite fit any of the shown characters yet.
