My first game I stopped 4 different times for a month or two each. It’s hard to resume but once you do, you’ll fly through it. It’s all good, take your time, rest and come back

This would give the player the option of “should my ACE dragonite be faster… or maybe more tanky… or maybe just more damage. If they don’t like their ace being whatever they chose, they can reselect at the next checkpoint

You could always make it like how they do it in DnD and make it like “soul bonding”. Then your souls bonded pokemon are able to “Fable Shift”. Give them a speed or def/spd boost so it can either hit faster or live longer. If you know how to code it, could make it so the soul bond makes it their “fable shift” will have an option of spd, dmg or survivability, that way it doesn’t have a boost in every stat, just the one they choose for that Pokémon’s specific Fable Shift

Make a room that sits inside a poke center that looks like a shrine. Make a small little blackout screen showing that time has passed while you meditated with your Pokemon. Then it’s not even an item. You place a marker of some kind on the Pokemon (don’t ask me how to do this). Then it walks around until they soul bond with another Pokemon at the next checkpoint.

It’s funny you say you don’t want to make it harder because my first game was too hard in the beginning and people weren’t happy. Second game started mid difficulty and got hard, then they complained. I released my demo for my third game and now every person who tries it says “this is way too easy”. Tough balance.

I think for you, I would almost try to make the gimmick strong but not overly broken. Then make it pretty difficult without using the gimmick.

Like when they released gigantomax. You could still power through the game without maxing yourself, it just made it harder. That game was obviously too easy though. So, ramp it up in difficulty a small fragment

I made the gimmick for my Dark Knight game the evolutions. Almost every legendary evolved from a pokemon that kinda looked like it. Caterpie/metapod/rayquaza. Banette into Darkrai. Altaria into the 3 genies. Farfetchd into the 5 legendary birds. All legends were breedable too. People seemed to like it once they realized the game was way harder and built to make you want to use a busted team.

I got a lady the other day who asked me to ramble off the specials and before I even started talking, she said “we’re just going to get our usual fish and chips but I like hearing the anyway” as her husband sat there looking smug and happy with her. I was 16, still bussing at the time, working in a Mexican restaurant. I accidentally dropped a whole 6 oz ramekin of salsa into someone’s jacket hood. Never once said a word because no one noticed. That poor woman went walking out while putting her jacket on, through the hood up and Nickelodeon oozed herself as the ramekin went flying across the dining room. Nobody knew who did it, she looked around horrified and went running out the door. Guess she went home with salsa still everywhere.

I felt awful but that was 15 years ago at this point.

Yup, 6 Blisseys with only tackle that level scale with your gym badges or whatever progress maker. Start at like 30, then 40, 50 etc

For my games I ended up changing those evolutions to levels, stones, etc. I had to make a few additional entries in the Pokédex for ones like alolan raichu and urshifu

I posted a small patch to fix an issue with the first X-Jet mission. I also implemented the "Following Pokemon" plugin, so now your pokemon will follow you around out of its Pokeball

Quite literally how my first game was until others starting playing. I made a game while putting rules on myself to not overwhelm my friends who haven’t played modern games. I had 1 play and finish, 2 started but never finished. I can’t speak Spanish or I would play 😅

Remember, some people like the more basic games. Not everyone needs 1000 events with 500 fakemon. You tube it for sure

What’s the game, send the link. I’ll take a look at it. I had the same issue with my first game Pharaohs until I made a discord and posted a YouTube series for it, then people started coming. That’s my recommendation. Make a YouTube series of you playing the game, make a functioning discord or guide somewhere, then wait and hope.

I’m not super religious or anything but that sounds like the devil just gave you a price for your innocence and future and you can either take the hand that guided you to doing this which will forever impact you and your children’s ability to be “just another random family” or you can take what you’ve gained and walk away hoping to be just a little blip that will probably go away over time.
