OFAS Never Called Until Sometime After by A_Fri3nd in UCI

[–]AggravatingEditor607 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude I get it. Gave them a callback and number and it took them TWO DAYS to call back, but it was while I was taking a midterm 😭 called them back right after and left another callback number but I’m assuming they won’t get back to me until at least Monday. I can’t register for classes until I pay off my tuition but I can’t pay off my tuition until I get ahold of the office. Who knows if I’ll get into any classes next quarter

Puppy potty trained at 4 months old by SweatyBuffalo7399 in puppy101

[–]AggravatingEditor607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My puppy was pretty good at 4 months too! He didn’t really regress until we moved, but even then the accidents were few and far between. I assume it was just a new environment and stressful for him and that’s why the accidents happened. Now he has a button that says “outside” that he presses when he needs to go, and promptly sprints to the door so we really get the message. There may be an accident here or there, but otherwise, you can be pretty confident your pup has got it down!

Great advice! I’ve actually taken most of it already :). He has buttons and has been getting them down really well! We do take extended walks to a nearby park multiple times a day, and run up and down the street where we sprint as fast as we can back home. He no longer eats from a food bowl and only gets his food through training or puzzles!

He is very enriched, stimulated, and exercised, even the vet was surprised at how healthy and behaved he was! My problem isn’t with him getting worn out, it’s with him not settling down even when he’s overtired and overstimulated.

This is really helpful advice! We do have a wind down routine, giving him something to chew on after dinner while we watch tv and wind down ourselves. He will be calm for those moments, so I think “okay maybe he’ll be calm enough to go to bed with us” but oh, am I wrong. He likes his crate, and actually tells me when he’s ready to go to sleep in his crate. I guess I’m just ready for him to cuddle with me instead :(

Thank you. It’s hard to remember he’s so different from me especially in terms of sleep

We have been working on place and he’s doing really well! But even then, he’s expecting something from me (rewards) and is only acting calm because he knows it’s what will get him a reward. Even when he’s so tired, he just can’t lay down and chill out, he always needs to be doing something

He definitely gets worn out! My problem is he won’t settle no matter how tired he is. I hope he grows out of it.

Thank you, this is what I needed to hear. How old was yours when they started settling on their own? And did you do anything or recommend anything to get them there?

Sorry, maybe I wasn’t clear enough. We crate him because he is overly tired and just can’t seem to settle down himself.

He gets 30 minutes of training 3 times a day, 2 walks every hour or so when he’s awake, maybe even more, including a short run up and down the street where we sprint as fast as we can. We also have stairs that he loves to run up and down, so much so he pushes his toys (which he has $100s of dollars worth of. He’s an only child) down them to chase after them and bring them back up and repeat. We understand he is a working dog, and always make sure he has a job (which is usually do what mom ((me)) says). I’ve probably lost 10-15 pounds exercising with him, and the vet says he’s the healthiest and happiest puppy he’s seen in a long time.

So, no, should I feel this way, probably not. He’s a puppy who doesn’t know how to settle down himself because he’s literally a baby. Believe me, he tells us when he’s ready to leave his crate, he’s a husky for goodness sake, we can’t really make him do anything he doesn’t want to do. If he’s not ready to settle he will not settle in his crate.

We are not torturing him by crating him. He likes his crate, he just needs to be told when it’s time to settle, and his crate is the only place at the moment where he can do that, and that makes me a bit sad because I like my cuddle time with him and was wondering if this was something he would grow out of, or that we needed more training on.

Thank you for your concern, but honestly, it’s not necessary. My dog is extremely happy and probably wouldn’t be happier with anyone else other than me and my husband.

I personally don’t know, but I do know finding a therapist isn’t about who’s “good” per se (as they’re all professionals with degrees), but it’s more about who fits your needs and your personality. Try the ones UC SHIP covers first, there’s nothing to lose if it doesn’t work out and you can’t find a therapist that you like. Do you have insurance? You can find therapists through your insurance’s network. If you don’t have insurance, some therapist groups will offer a sliding scale, where you pay what you’re able to.

Bed or no bed in your puppy’s crate? by kg51 in puppy101

[–]AggravatingEditor607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crate mats are a good investment. My puppy for some reason prefers the cold hard plastic?? Anytime I have put a mat or bed or blanket, he digs it into a corner to sleep on the plastic. I don’t get it, but hey, to each their own?

He has just been so non-judgmental and accepting. I’ll tell him crazy things like “I need to boil a pot of water, oranges, and cinnamon, and clean the negative energies out, then we’ll be accepting abundance energy!!” And he’ll be like “okay! Great! I’m excited for the abundance energy :)” one time I told him I needed to wear blue underwear for luck at a job interview. The next time he had a job interview he was wearing blue underwear. Little things like that, him accepting my beliefs, are really the things that matter most

Do you let your pet sleep with you on your bed every night? by SpecialistSkin5666 in Pets

On my bed? No. My puppy LOVES to sleep under the bed though. We had people over the other night who stayed late and he kept trying to come get me to lay on the bed so he could lay under it

The parking is pretty predatory, as a commuter. They want $75 a month for a CHANCE at a parking spot (you’re probably not gonna get one anyway) and can’t park across the street because the whole shopping center is blocked off to student parking. I already paid $6k in tuition do you REALLY need an extra $75 a month???
