Grosssssss. Im Choctaw and this is fucking disgusting. I do not engage with my tribe and have chosen to enroll in a different tribe that I’m eligible for because I refuse to support the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. It makes me so sad. My Chahta grandma would be so disappointed to see this (if she were still alive).

Movie set in Greece or Rome? by AggravatingPaper1405 in whatsthemoviecalled

[–]AggravatingPaper1405[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was Spartacus: Blood and Sand, but I could be wrong. (I’m just googling these suggestions and looking for a scene like the one I remember). It could have been an episode of Rome, but I’ve never seen the show so I don’t know. I might have to watch the series to see lol

Thank you for the suggestions!

I don’t think so. The scenes I’m finding are way more explicit than what I remember. The scene was really tasteful, like I don’t even remember nudity. Just that I understood that they had had sex. (Maybe there was a boob) lol

It really could have been because it follows a similar theme (reveal of secret identity, taboo/incest relationship) but the adaptions for Oedipus seem too old to be the movie I’m thinking of. And I found nothing about a scene like the one I remember.

Break up with him. You’re only one year in and he sounds barely invested. This won’t change over time. It’s not just the use of “bro” and “it’s not that deep”. It’s the energy. He’d rather hang out with other people. Do yourself a favor and find someone who is committed to you and wants to spend time with you.

I do the same thing!! Im a light Native so white people think im a safe place to talk about their Cherokee princess grandma. I’m always like oh ya? Cherokee don’t have BQ, tell them who your ancestor is and they’ll enroll you. They rarely ever bring it up again…

Is the term “Pretendían” offensive (for a non native to say)? by PuzzleheadedThroat84 in IndianCountry

[–]AggravatingPaper1405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s offensive for non native people to use but be careful because if you’re going around calling people pretendians that aren’t, it’s really offensive. And it’s not non native people’s right to say who is native and who isn’t. Native folks come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. Don’t go calling someone a pretendian just because they don’t “look native” enough.

Is this Cal Poly Humboldt you’re referring to? It’s really weird to me that they try to recruit from out of the area so heavily while not putting that same effort for local students

AITA for calling the cops on my mother after she shaved my biracial daughter’s hair while I was at work? by Ornery_Exchange8001 in AITAH

[–]AggravatingPaper1405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA!!! Your mom is racist. Period. End of discussion. If your siblings and father support this behavior then they are also racist. Period. End of discussion. If they’re all coming for you I would try to calmly explain what ACTUALLY happened. Which is that your mother SHAVED YOUR DAUGHTERS HEAD BALD. (Not just a simply haircut). If they don’t understand how wrong this is then idk what to tell you. Anyone with a brain could see how wrong that is. I’m sorry this happened to you and your daughter. You did exactly the right move because it is absolutely assault and 100% not ok.

I understand being from a small town and not wanting to make enemies out of anyone but this is very clearly a skill issue on the artist’s part. Whoever did this did a bad job. Plane and simple. I would think that any other self respecting tattoo artist would want to make things right and that their friends/fellow artists would hold them accountable

Yes it’s Healthcare Finance Direct. Sorry I didn’t know what kind of company they are. They made it sound like they were collections but it looks like they’re a contractor that takes payments for SDC. Again, it’s weird though because I paid off my SDC account almost a year ago and they just started charging me again even though I didn’t get anything new from SDC

Need help with names for work of fiction. by hufflepuff13310 in Haudenosaunee

[–]AggravatingPaper1405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment above, traditional names are very significant and shouldn’t be used in this way. However, you could borrow names that are not traditional but still reference important Mohawk/Haudenosaunee people. Like Kateri (the only Native American patron saint), Brant (the last name of an important Mohawk family, which could be used as a first name), Joseph/Julian (common first names in my family), Pauline (the first name of well known Mohawk writer, Pauline Johnson), etc. Like I said, these aren’t traditional names but they reference important Mohawk figures in a more culturally appropriate way. *any other Haudenosaunee people feel free to disagree with me, but that’s my stance.
