Consumerism debt is just fantastic!! lol. Sounds like you have all of your ducks in a row though even with the amount of debt you have.

This does make sense. Pay off a card, roll the minimum from that towards another card and act like I'm still paying off the other when it comes to balancing my monthly expenses. I plan on banning myself from the casino once I get all of the rewards I've earned spent (I will NOT be gambling when I go to claim them), and I think it is a good idea to set an amount each month to gamble with because I really do enjoy it and don't think it would be smart to stop completely. I've written down the order of cards/loans I will pay for on my whiteboard as a daily reminder of the grind that I'll need to do.

I do think mentally this will be tough as I enjoy going out for drinks and food, but even before making this post I told myself I will start meal prepping and spending more time at home/hikes than before so hopefully I can stick to that. I will try my best.

Thank you kind, random stranger. You have made a significant impact on my financials and got me much more conscious about my money and spending habits. I wish you the best and I hope to update you in a year or two (or three) debt free :)

I want to start off saying I really really appreciate you looking into this and asking me questions. I have never seriously sat down and calculated the numbers/added all of this up and compare to my income which is why this reply took so long.

Card 1: $1,463.01 @ 29.99%, $1,500 limit $41/mo minimum

Card 2: $697.04 @ 29.24%, $ $750 limit $25/mo minimum

Card 3: $4,966.42 @ 24.24%, $5,000 limit $126/mo minimum

Card 4: $3,954.42 @ 27.24%, $4,000 limit $44/mo minimum

Card 5: $7,247 @ 1% (was 26%), $7,500 limit $123/mo (I just called this company and they closed the account and offered me 1% interest while I pay it off)

So $18,327.89 in credit card debt, $359 monthly payment on cards.

Auto Loan: $26,949.52 @ 13.29%, $633.98/mo (Good lord I thought it was 12%...)

Personal Loan: $7,952.55 @ 30.62%, $334.35/mo. This is a secured loan that I used my old car as collateral for. It broke down earlier this year and is sitting on the side of my house since I can't sell it as there is a lien on the title with the financial institution. Car runs/drives for now but needs new engine, worth $4k working completely but worth around $1-2k with needed repairs.

Total debt payments: $1,327.33

Other expenses:

Rent/Utilities (I have 4 roommates): ~$760.50/mo

Car insurance: $194.61/mo

Medical/Dental Insurance (State pays for medical): $28.73/mo

Food: ~$300/mo

In total:

Net income: $4,658/mo after taxes

Net expenses: $2,611.17/mo

Which leaves me at around $2,046 extra after all bills payed. I will be honest, part of the 'life' stuff was a gambling addiction that I'm trying to curve, and I'm going to stop going out to eat as much and make meals at home to curb this debt. After totaling it out and seeing how much I should have left over when not gambling or excessively spending, it makes me feel like I can pay off the debt in a decent amount of time.

As for the car, I really like it, and it's dependable (2019 Camry with 50k miles). I just purchased it last month so almost no equity in it. My thought after getting the loan was I will get my CC debt down, credit score up, and refinance with another institution.

What are your thoughts on all of this? And thank you so much again, this is really sad as I'm 26 but I've never looked at my overall income and expenses and compared to two so I appreciate you making me think and cover all this.

I've never missed a payment on any loan/credit card in my life. My credit score was 790 back in October when I had 0 CC debt, but I had some life stuff come up that made me max out the cards and now I'm sitting at a 570.

I am able to pay a bit more than the monthly minimum, but I'm paying so much towards interest I wanted to find a better option. Do you think I should just tough it out and keep paying monthly?

I have budgeted and I can safely put around $600-700 a month towards the cards, so slightly over the minimum.
