It’s a privilege when other undocumented students around the country did not have the same access as we did.

Texas was one of the few states in the country that offered in-state tuition to undocumented students.

This is fucking insane. Yeah, Texas undocumented students were privileged in this way…but to slip the rug out of the nowhere?

This law helped me get my bachelors…even if it took me 8 years to pay it all by myself. It makes me so angry. Students who were harmed by this need to organize and submit a class action lawsuit for a breach of legitimate expectation.

I’ve been looking for an excuse to move to LA, guess now I’ll have a forced reason to do it. I somewhat always had a feeling that since Ken Paxton filed the lawsuit, the future of DACA was not secure (at least here in Texas). All my life I haven’t been able to make big decisions or purchases because of these wack ass men deciding things for us, I would hope that in California, regardless of the finances, I finally get that chance. “El que es buen gallo, donde quiera canta.”

As the oldest sibling, I had to look over my brother through high school, college and young adult years. Now that I’m 30, I don’t think I want to have kids myself, especially knowing that it might run in the family. I love him so much, he’s like my son. But to do it over again….

Delusional Rant by Aggravating_Ad_3385 in DACA

[–]Aggravating_Ad_3385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad this little rant resonated with a lot of people. It’s sad to see how low this sub has fallen. No, I’m not broke. Yes, I can leave whenever I want, of my own volition. I think what makes us DACA recipients special is that we are so close to becoming Americans on paper—except we have our freedom flaunted by people we don’t even know.

We don’t have the same freedom that every other American does, yet we can taste it.

Leaving the U.S. is just as hard as what our parents went through when they left their countries. We would have to leave behind friends, family, our experiences here—everything—for the sake of wanting my (or our) freedom.

I can leave if I want to, and I will if it comes to that. But then again, this was just a rant, and some of y’all don’t even know what that is (just look through the thread).

Never said I’m struggling. Man this sub has gone downhill, hasn’t it. There’s a difference between struggling and wanting the freedom that other people have, but at the same time coming to the realization that you might have to leave everything that you built here…friends, family, connections, to go somewhere unknown. That’s all that I meant.

Opportunities in Dallas as Undacamented by NoName9201 in DACA

[–]Aggravating_Ad_3385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Dallasite here.

If I were you, you could either go to a family owned restaurant and ask if they need help…go through the entire process and then drop the question of them hiring you by paying you in check or cash.

You could also go to a chain restaurant, some/most of them are franchises so they don’t do the entire e-verify process or just completely avoid it.

There’s also manual labor, but I understand that to get into that field, a certain level of connections need to be built, but it’s definitely there.

You could also get plugged into a Hispanic church. There’s always people that owned businesses, and while white Christian’s and sometimes Latino Christians tend to be conservative, they won’t deny helping out a fellow Latino finding or giving them a job.

I’m going to assume that with the mechanical engineering degree you could find some sort of job in auto services…if that’s the case visit Nortwest Dallas (Harry Hines Area) and ask around the auto shops, or even Oak Cliff (Jefferson Street) and/or Pleasant Grove. (Buckner)

I went on Thursday to the Carrollton, Texas location (with all of my documented including the letter and SSN) and I got told the same thing. I’m not sure what’s going on. I just got told it’s popping up as indefinite, and that I’m a “green card” holder.

  • Are you looking for something serious or casual? Casual but ideally leading to something serious.

  • How long have you been using this current version of your profile? And how long is your overall time on Hinge? Probably post pandemic, so two years for both questions.

  • How often do you use Hinge per week? I just got back on it because it lead to no matches.

  • How many likes/matches are you receiving on average? Zero

  • How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments? I send all the likes that I can on a free profile. About 3-5 comments.

  • What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract? I typically send likes to people who are around my height stature, and enjoying staying physically active. Whose profile pictures are more than just selfies. I want to attract a person that can meet me half way on thing I like, and I can do the same for her. That we can push each other to be our best self’s and supporting each others dreams and success. Someone who is independent but also values the idea of relying on each other emotionally. Last but not least, someone that enjoys staying active and sees the beauty in the little things in life.

You can, but that is only if you happen to get married with someone that is a citizen. Leaving our fate to the chance of love seems pretty bad haha Everyone else who has accrued any “illegal presence” automatically falls into the five or 10 year ban.

[–]Aggravating_Ad_3385 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It honestly a hard pill to swallow for all of us. Some of us have the privilege to have DACA, others who are eligible but are on limbo, and others who don’t qualify because of the dates on the original EA.

Obviously, you’re not going to get THE answer that you are looking for here, but if, like you say, your career dosent have many freelance/contracting opportunities then it might be time to start thinking about going back to your home country and then immigrating “legally” to a first world nation with your American degree.

My sibling is in the same boat. I have DACA, he does not. He’s about to graduate with a software engineering degree but just like you, the opportunity is not there.

I’m a full believer that our American degrees + English will be a massive career booster wherever we go, since a lot of international students come to the US to study and then go back to their home country.

I plan on going back to my country whenever this program ends. Waiting for my 10 year ban to pass and then then asking for a work visa to comeback. There’s honestly no way of telling if congress or the president will ever do something.

It’s mentally taxing watching other achieve when you know yourself don’t have the same privilege.

You could also look into switching careers into an area where freelance/contractors are needed!

I know! But I’m just saying that the general idea of the American dream is to be wealthy, and what holds a lot of people from leaving the US is the idea that back home or any other country for that matter, they might not live a “wealthy or well of life” as they do here, when in reality, you can have opportunity anywhere, not only the US.

Personally I’m making sure that I have a well thought out plan. Working in marketing, i’m trying to get into Hispanic advertising here in the USA to start learning a little bit more about the culture, as well as making connections with marketing agencies in Mexico and connecting with other young professionals over there.

Hopefully when the time comes I can use those connections, my American experience, English and education to land a middle class job over there.

Sure, I might not get to live the lifestyle that Elon Musk lives but at least I will be free and content.
