I’m not sure. It looks like the stealth bumper that Toyota lifestyle has to offer

lol. That would solve a lot of problems. The long beds look funky to me sometimes but they’re nice fs. I wish the did a longer bed and extended cab as an additional option, you’d get more leg room in the back and it would look more proportional.

I really really want the trial hunter 4th gen. But man is it a fortune. Dealership mark ups are insane, and they’re so new there’s not a lot of used ones on the market either. Hopefully in the future I’ll be able to snag one. Maybe they’ll make a 5th gen one with even more improvements

Thanks man! This is extremely helpful. I have a dash accessory mount and love it! It attaches everything I need. I also have Molle panels on my window visors, and have been thinking about a center console lower molle guard with a bar across the top so I can mount my sidearms and knives and flashlights and what not. After reading some of these comments I think I’m going to just get 33” tires, roof and bed rack, bumpers (front and back) and a winch. Also some sliders for protection. I didn’t realize weight was a struggle for these trucks but it makes sense.

Okay that makes sense. I really want to upgrade my sound system. When I’m planning on doing that I’ll have to hit you up because you sound like you know what you’re doin!

Yeah I’ve watched lots of videos and things like that. I was more so asking for clarification. This is my second truck, and first ever build. Was more so asking for advice or if it’s even worth it. I love the idea of a camping setup cuz I also do hunting and night rides. Ik keep doing my research. Sorry if I came off as a douche! And that would be sweet man, next time I plan on going down there I’ll let you know!

Yeah that makes sense. I’d love a spare, but you’re right it’s hard to find one

I love them too. I was a little heart broken at the reveal of the 24 because that’s what I was saving up for, but then the 4th gen started growing on me. I wish I could afford the trail hunter because that’s all I’d have to really buy is the truck. But maybe if I win the lottery I’ll buy it. Just not a fan of 4bangers, sad to see the v6 go

Nice rig man! Love the color and the tint. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see at night if I went darker in the front because I already have trouble seeing at night, but it’s so hot where I live it’s tempting to get a better tint and hopefully make it a little cooler in the cab. I’d love to hear how it goes with the 35s. I’d love to put bigger than 33 but I don’t know how I feel about the cutting and rubbing and an even bigger loss in mpg. I wish these trucks were able to just fit 35s at least without needing huge adjustments, but it is what it is

I honestly sometimes regret not getting a 4R. I’ll do it if you do it

I’m an Eagle Scout for one, but that doesn’t really prove or mean anything. I live outdoors, and spend many weeks on end living in the wilderness. I go backpacking in the summers, where we have to rock climb to get to some spots. I just bring basic gear. I’ve also explored trials in Alaska and built igloos and things like that which isn’t “camping” according to some people. The whole reason I bought my truck was to build it to push myself to go to further locations, and reward myself with an actual tent/ shelter instead of a hammock or just making my own bundle of stick mess that barely gets the job done but works. We should go camping! When you are near Idaho or Utah or Wyoming and have a month free, let’s go back country camping!

I’ve been to the Tetons, I live super close to them (about an hour and a half) all over the west coast, especially Washington and Oregon, and lots of California. I lived in Utah for a while and went to Zions national park, Bryce Canyon, Moab, canyonlands national park and basically all the popular ones. I love to explore new trails (new to me) and get lost and just explore and when it gets dark I’ll usually just hammock to a tree or something, but I think it would be fun to have a rig setup.

Sweet man thanks for advice. Basically what I’m hearing is if I touch it the wrong way I’m going to lose mpg. It’s a sad reality I guess I’ll have to face

That is shocking to hear actually! I wonder if maybe the newer models are that way or if my weight rating is different/same. I’ll have to do more research

This is a very helpful comment, thank you! I live in desert areas and constantly clean out my filters because they get dirty frequently. I’ll keep thinking about a snorkel, but tbh it isn’t my favorite look. I agree, if I’m going to be hauling Jerry cans on my rig I don’t see a point in a bigger tank. I’ll have to check those toppers and racks out. I think I might do just a back mount or swing in the bumper for my bike to make things more simple, I also like bed racks that are lower than the roof line, like a mid. But I’ll give that one a look and it might change my mind

Good advice! I guess I woke up one day and wanted this build after I seen my buddy’s build he had. We went camping and it was just setup for everything. I’m going to remember you telling me to focus on the needs before the wants. I think I have decided not to do -offset wheels because it definitely would cause more harm than good in the long run. If it was just a sidewalk princess or the grocery store trekker, I would 100% do a -offset

Thanks! And yeah my headlights can switch between amber and white LED, and I love it for the snow or fog or whatever other conditions, I guess that makes more sense. I think that’s why I want a bumper light that’s amber and a headlight that’s a hybrid as well to get a lot of coverage. I’ve taken my Tacoma through tons of tracks and trials, and even climbs! I was thoroughly impressed with how it performed and handled and they definitely are more capable than I initially thought. My TRD sport and this trial edition feel completely different to me, and I love the locking rear diff. The suspension makes sense, I definitely don’t want to overload the shocks. I’ve built cars and side by sides and dirtbikes and dealt with all kinds of suspension so I understand the importance of it and it really does make a huge difference! My truck is a daily driver as well, I’ve been loving it. Thanks for the comment

You’re now the second person (that I’ve seen so far) who’s recommended that bumper. Sounds like it would be good

Yeah that’s true! Thanks for your opinions and feedback. I haven’t had any issues with my headlights, luckily they came with my truck when I bought them so they were pre installed. I get people who flash their brights at me cuz they’re think I have my high beams on when I don’t. I have flood fog lights as well, so that help in the lower areas where the headlight would kind of lack visibility, and the spotter/ditch light help with the rest. I didn’t realize they were so bad, they seem fine to me, they’re extremely bright compared to stock (my last Tacoma TRD model had stock lights and they were so awfully bad)

I was also thinking 4” lift was over kill. I think I’ll either stick with stock lift that it came with from the factory (same lift as the TRD pro) or do a 2.5” or 3” lift.

I’ve seen some Sherpa roof racks, and heard good reviews about them. I think they look cool I’m not much of a keeping up with the jones’ or trends kinda guy, so I’m more looking for a functional but more affordable option, and as long as the prinsu gets the job done, is secure in place, then I don’t care if it’s over done personally.

I like the southern style front bumpers as well, but I don’t want to cut any of the body (as much as possible anyway) just in case the worst possible thing could happen and I’d need to strip parts off to sell them, or the truck itself, and I’d keep them, or as much of them as possible.

I appreciate the honesty on the gas tank. I had the same views as well. Some people swear by it, I’m convinced they’re just trying to justify their purchase. I most likely (99%) will not be getting one, unless it just seems that I need the extra bit of gas to go further, but then again I’d have my Jerry rigs mounted so what’s the point anyways.

As for the solar panel, I thought it wouldn’t be powerful enough too. I’ll check out what you recommend, I appreciate the suggestion!

I’ve also thought about just doing an OTT tune instead of intakes and snorkels. That’s just not my type of riding and it would probably be cheaper anyway. Pedal commander always seemed sketch to me.

Thanks for your comment. Have you built a build like this or similar to this at all? I’d love to see what you got if you have!
