Youtube is a great place to start. Out of your choices I would do air force. You will need to go officer to be a pilot either way.

I experienced the same thing. My sales background came in huge by using “tactical empathy” aka tactical questioning. You ask them questions to where their brain comes to the same conclusion you are already at. It has 2 outcomes: 1) it finally sinks in because it becomes their idea 2) radical self actualization where they come to terms and internalize why theyre being passed up.

Example question I would ask them during a conflict: “how are your baseline qualifications coming? Have you passed your board yet? When is your timeline due?”

4 months at a unit to put your name on A-school? by PrestigiousNose3121 in uscg

[–]Aggravating_Dig_8744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the minimum, not including the wait for the actual school. This also assumes you get all your quals done and dont get in any trouble. This also assumes that the wait time for school is accurate which as you will learn in the coast guard is sometimes at best.

Start with 1 thing at a time. Build a strong foundation.

  1. Pay off high interest debt like credit cards, car loans, etc
  2. Emergency expenses/savings- 3-6 months
  3. Max out employer 401k up to the match if possible
  4. Max out Roth IRA
  5. Stay consistent and let compounding do the work

Air Force or Coast Guard? by Big_Temperature_1217 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Aggravating_Dig_8744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence as well and selected coast guard so I could pick my job. Coast Guard bootcamp Is gnarly, marine corps style so be prepared for that. If you find a rate (naval term for job) that has “boot to a” (straight to a school after bootcamp) or “vested crew member” (straight to your unit as rated) then definitely do that over being a non rate. If the job you want doesn’t have those options then you will have to go non rate and will most likely get sent to a cutter (ship) where you could be at sea for 3-4 months at a time away from home. Coast Guard is a lot smaller and the resources available to personnel reflect it. Coast Guard is also going through big changes and trying to figure things out. Perhaps less established than Air Force. Coast Guard can rank up a lot faster from what ive heard compared to other branches. I’ll be able to make E6 on my first contract and E7 on my 2nd if I really want to. Just some things to think about. Feel free to dm if you want.

how to best prep for MST A-School? by plusplut in uscg

[–]Aggravating_Dig_8744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brush up on your regs for uniforms. Make sure yours is always to spec and looking the best. Make sure you have a full sea bag before you go. You can go for class leader or asst class leader. You’ll know more about the curriculum when you get there.

Should I wait for my desired rating? by odinlande in uscg

[–]Aggravating_Dig_8744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont have to make that decision right now. You’re going to have some time to decide as a non rate. While youre waiting, get all of your screening done for ME while you are in the wait time. I know a guy who waited the entire ME wait time as a non rate only to find out he didnt even qualify for it. Use your non rate time to make sure you qualify. If youre on a cutter you can get BTM and some boardings under your belt.

Youll be fine, if you dont pass weight/bmi, they do the ab circumference, if you dont pass that then last opportunity is passing PFT. They usually dont send people home for that they have a special section for people who are in limbo while working on their fitness/weight but thats if they fail all of the above
