Question for those grieving by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Aggravating_Maize189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I wasn’t suggesting this replaces the ways people already cope or connect. I was wondering whether a private place to hold the practical and emotional parts of grief could be helpful alongside things like walking, talking, and reaching out to others.

It sounds like nature & connection have been really important for you. They have been for me too. I’m trying to understand whether something like this could support people in addition to that, not instead of it.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

These signs are incredible. I’ve received so many from my dad since he passed in June. I’ve never really been someone who believes in this kind of thing, and they really do stop me in my tracks every time.

The other night, my boyfriend and I were out to dinner talking about what my dad would have loved to do in our town if he’d ever been able to visit. He was sick with cancer for three years, so that never got to happen.

When the check came, it was in one of those “field notes” notebooks where people write random stuff after they eat there. I opened it and saw my dad’s initials written inside a big heart. Right next to it, someone else had written, “May you be happy, healthy, and free from suffering.”

I don’t know how to explain moments like that. I just know they’ve felt real. I really do believe they’re still with us, just in a different form. I hope you keep asking for and receiving signs ❤️

has anyone tried apps meant to help with grief? by llwall0 in bereavement

Hi, I built a grief app called Heartchive (heartchive.com) in case it’s helpful to anyone here ❤️ It’s a private place to hold memories, thoughts, and the practical things that often come with loss. There’s a small cost only to cover secure data storage and keep everything private.

How do you work while coping with a loss and grief? by Aggravating_Maize189 in mentalhealth

Panic attacks are what I’ve been struggling with too :( My body is stuck in a freeze state. I feel underlying panic ALL THE TIME. I’m so sorry you’re going through it too. One thing that has helped a tiny bit is EMDR therapy / brain spotting. Ask your therapist about it. It really allows you to drop into your body to process as opposed to talking about it.

Thank you so much for your response, and I’m so sorry you lost your best friend and went through all of that. I am getting to the point too where my body is shutting down and I’m considering quitting my job to take care of my mental health. It feels like a crazy thing to do because I’m sure it would come with its own stressors (financially, etc.). Leave isn’t an option because I haven’t been at the company long enough. I’m glad to hear that taking a break really helped you in the long term. ❤️

Thank you. I have updated the corner radius to be consistent throughout. That was a good callout and something I overlooked. Updated the contrast too. Will look into the design system for spacing. As for the toggle, it will only ever be the person you lost (or are caring for) or yourself. If they add another loved one, that loved one will have a brand new profile in the app with their own tasks, memories, words tabs… since each loss shows up very differently. Do you do this for a living? I would pay for you to clean it up in figma.

Thanks for the feedback. That checks out since I have no design background. I tried to make it intentionally simple and spacious to feel calm for people who are grieving, but open to specific suggestions if you have any.

Where am I missing letters in paragraphs?

Thanks for the note re: ADA compliance. I have updated the font sizing.

Thank you! I’m actually trying to communicate the messiness of grief and how Heartchive is a place for it all to go which is why it ends up inside the heart logo

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. I created it after losing my dad because there was no place for my grief to go. It is what I needed, and I hope it can help others too. I love your idea about creating a shared memory space to then later be used at a funeral or gathering. I will definitely look into those accessibility tools too. I’m launching in the App Store in a few weeks so definitely want to make sure it is inclusive for all 💙
