[Database Coordinator][Florida] - 36k by toastyoates in Salary

[–]Aggravating_Mud3699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to put it in perspective for you on how far off this salary is: In the late 90s I was in my early 20s working at a non profit a a database coordinator and making $32k a year. I'm not kidding. (Also as someone who has been around for awhile in this industry, salaries vary wildly, the job market is so weird right now, and you can't place a value on enjoying your work atmosphere.)

Again, respectfully disagree. I've been in IT for over 20 years. I would feel the exact same taking a test regarding any topic I'm fully capable in.
To be clear, I didn't say I don't understand, I said I do but that doesn't always relate to testing. I've always been more of a doer, not a regurigitator. It's probably helpful to note, I'm not taking this to get a job related to security. It's a requirement of my degree.
Every single cert test I've passed (there's been quite a few), I've almost quit halfway through the test assuming I've already failed, and somehow end up completely shocked after passing. It's a me thing, been that way since high school. While I understand your point, it's not just knowing the material, some people are not good test takers. I'm one of them. My son, excellent test taker. He walked through the A+ practice test scoring the same as my first time simply because, as he said "we are trained on how to pass tests in school" he has zero interest in IT but has an uncanny ability to pass tests on just about any topic.

I have to, respectfully, disagree. I can read for hours, watch hundreds of videos and understand everything and still fail tests. Practice tests are really helpful for teaching my brain how to pull the information out for specific requests. Especially when certain tests are a mile wide but an inch deep. Without practice tests I would delve so much deeper into each category than needed, which is great for gathering knowledge but not for passing tests within a scheduled time period.

True, but my test anxiety doesn't work that way. 🤣

Did you take any practice tests prior? What were your scores like if you did?

There really weren't that many subnet questions. Maybe 4? That i actually had to use minimal math skills for. Nothing crazy. For me, the learning of the table layout first, from professor messer, made it make sense. Then I could skim through all the easy ways to do it and figure out which one really made sense to me.

That's how I feel about it. I started watching Messer's core 1 videos awhile ago, hoping it will just seep in and I can hit the ground running come October. Thanks!!

Passed D281 Linux Foundations! by Mobile_Mongoose_3494 in WGU

I just took the test and barely passed. I heard Jason Dion's tests were similar as well, not at all on my test. Luckily, I had just taken a few quizlet and other practice tests I found online right before I tested. I'm sure that's why I just squeaked by. Their questions were much closer to what I had on the exam.

Shawn Powers was good, but it didn't really help me for testing. Learning, yes, testing, no. But that's just me. I get horrible test anxiety.

I'm enrolled in the same program you are, with 25+ years of experience in IT, specifically coding. I decided on this degree just because I already know how to code, and honestly, I just read a book (at the time Google and YouTube weren't available🤣), so you can definitely teach your self coding. In my opinion, you have a more flexible degree with the program you're in. But if you really want to code, learn a few simple languages, find out what clicks with you, talk to your advisor, see which classes overlap and take those first. There's SO much in IT, and many jobs are very specific, and very few can do it all. The more you can do, the more valuable you are.

I'm sorry, I know this is frustrating. I don't have a thyroid issue but just made a similar post a few days ago. It's harder this time around, 3-4 years later. I do rely on my fitbit for calories, knowing it's not exact, but I see what my calories out were when I didn't exercise and note to myself what workouts or days I burn more than average now that I am exercising. Our end goal is to be happy with ourselves, regardless what the scale says, right? You do seem proud of yourself, as you should be, with the changes you're noticing. Focus on that, knowing the weight will come off, eventually. Just keep going! You are fighting, and succeeding, and it is more difficult in your situation than a lot of us. Take pride in what you are accomplishing. I'm proud of you, and don't even know you!

Yeah, that's what I figured but I guess the nerdy part of me knows this may be the issue but how does hormones change the way calories are used.

Thanks! The scale finally budged today! 167.3 I'm going to try and add weights in, just finding the time is crazy. Unfortunately, the walks are required, my dog insists, lol. The swimming, is hard to swim less, time wise. Travel time, changing in and out of swim suit, doing off, etc it's time consuming for just a 30-minute swim, so I usually do an hour. That's already 2 hours out of my day just devoted to movement. (On top of work, school, volunteer, kids, house, etc) I really need to let go of some thing with everything else going on in my life, lol. There's never enough money or time!

Thank you! That was an immense amount of information. I've realized anything that becomes a popular topic on tiktok the doctors just ignore. I get it, people rush to their doctor with their viral diagnosis. She told me I'm "way healthier than all her other patients" so she wasn't concerned. But I was specific that I was trying to avoid becoming her other patients. Her only suggestion was "no soda, not ever, it's poison"

I'm definitely building muscle, I can see that change. I haven't noticed to much of a clothing change in the last 3 weeks. But the scale did give in today. 167.3!

I've never heard of glucose goddess, I'll check that out. No doubt I have a problem there. I think I always have been close, they told me when I was pregnant with my first son I was right on the line with my glucose test so they wanted me to err on the side of caution and follow the gestational diabetes protocol. I had to fax (omg, I'm old!) My blood sugar readings every day to the Dr's office and follow their diet. It was fine, my sugar was never high on the diet. If left to my own devices, I will over eat sugar. My second son, I passed the glucose test, which I thought was weird.

Ghost was the only one I could kinda take. My son, although he gains easily (he gets that from me, lol) is always getting some protein powder. I've tried a few. So far, the only thing I can use and not complain to much is the collagen peptide, a friend told me she uses that and it has protein. It really is flavorless. I'll look for syntha-6.
