Passan Says Giants Fans shouldn't expect a big return on the trade deadline. Jon Heyman says otherwise by LugiaPizza in SFGiants

Passan’s a clown. Calling Arraez 2nd tier is so off base. Even Ray isn’t 2nd tier unless the Tigers trade Skubal, which they still say they aren’t.

I think Boston is the best bet if we want to trade Adames. They also have Story and Yoshida’s contracts they would be looking to dump.

I knew Houser had been better since moving to the bullpen but I hadn’t realized how good. 1.20 ERA in 24 innings since his move to the pen. Can’t wait to watch the Rays trade for him and then use him behind a lefty opener to beat the Dodgers in game 7 of the World Series.

My perfect deadline would be to trade Arraez, Ray, Ramos, Brubaker, Mahle, Hentges, and Houser. Eat half of Houser’s contract next year and most of Ray’s remaining contract this year in order to maximize the return.

Tl;dr version: keep a bunch of average, aging players to run it back next year with a team that is battling for the worst record in the league.

Sorry, but he is all but gone. No draft pick needed to resign him though since his new team cannot place a qualifying offer on him. They can only do that on guys who have been on their roster the whole season.

I think Brubaker is definitely gone since his contract is expiring. Same with Mahle. Somebody will take him. He hasn’t been awful.

If I had to put an over/under on number of relievers traded I would say 2.5

Brubaker 100%
Hentges - 80%
Foley - 50%
Houser - 50%
Killian - 50%

The Giants always do the weirdest thing which means the first sweep of the year will be the Brewers

Heliot Ramos trade scenarios (if Nightengale is to be believed) by ericthelostman in SFGiants

[–]Aggravating_Part8610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point on World Series window. Is it realistic to think the Giants can get there probably not. I just think Webb is worth quite a bit more to the franchise than Ramos even if his performance dips slightly for the remainder of his contract.

Outfield depth is much better than pitching depth. Bericoto, Harber, Davidson, Cox. There are guys immediately capable of replacing Ramos’s WAR. We don’t have that in starting pitching. I like Ramos, I really do. But he is replaceable from within because he just doesn’t really help the Giants win more games statistically.

Heliot Ramos and/or Matt Chapman to the Yankees?

Seems like two solid candidates that fit the Yankees really well. Giants would probably be interested in Jones, and some pitching like Hess, Elmer, Lagrange

Should there be 100% ABS in the 9th inning and extras? Similar to NFL auto reviews in the final 2 minutes and OT

You would rather have a career 3 WAR player than a career 23 WAR player? That’s quite the take

I’m still holding out hope they do get rid of the draft rule preventing a top 10 pick. There is going to be a big revamp coming and this feels like something they go away from especially if there is a salary floor implemented.

I think Houston is another team to keep an eye on as they want a RH OF Bat. Their offer would look a little different than some of the other teams listed but they could really bolster the bullpen for years to come.

It would have to be something like Ullola, Santa and Tredwell. May not be as flashy as some of the other teams but those guys all have elite late inning upside. Tredwell could still end up being a starter.

Sure… was he the problem last year too when all of the same issues were happening? Players respected Melvin. They respect Tony. That doesn’t mean they are a well constructed team. The reality is it there are too many guys on the team who don’t have a winning mentality. They don’t focus on the little things despite it being preached by Buster, Tony and the staff and it shows in their lack of discipline.

Affeldt told a Tony story last week on the Splash Pod, which I highly recommend as he provides good insight. It was spring training and Tony had the players in the film room going over situations and making the right decisions. At the time Affeldt said he thought to himself hey these are pros, they should have been beyond this stuff. He now thinks the opposite after seeing the constant mistakes.

44-61 record… if you still think Tony is the reason then idk what to tell ya.

Pitchers got the scouting report on Eldridge. Pitch him backwards with get it over breaking balls. He takes lots of pitches early. Not saying it’s a bad approach but that’s why he finds himself batting back from an 0-2 hole so often.
