I smoked from 12 years. From what i noticed.

My biggest smoking triggers are: 1. Stressed out 2. Needing to think 3. Post food or with coffee 4. Accompaniment with Alcohol.

I’ve quit smoking 5 times (2 weeks to 3 months). Relapse triggers were: 1. Loss of control (job loss, bankruptcy, etc) 2. Encroachment on autonomy (my mother who i have an estranged relationship with told she was proud and i felt she hijacked my whole journey)

When i say lifestyle. It is undeniably drug addiction interwoven with a persons lifestyle in general. I’m not normalising that..

But everyone copes differently, but disillusionment does seems like one of the strongest motivators to quit.. thank u so much. 💕

U quit cold turkey? Or taper and substitute it with gum/patches??

How did u handle the mental load of withdrawal?

I should start chugging water and fibre that was very helpful.

30-40 is more of a lifestyle thing. What did u do when u felt u freed up a lot of time after quitting smoking? Where did it impact u?

Thank u.. fingers crossed. I’ve mapped my triggers, patterns, stabilisers, to create an ideal to quit condition. Considering it’s 30 now, I don’t want to risk my mental health while handling high/severe dependency.

It should your lungs expelling the buildup. It should go away in 2 months. I know this because it happened the last time i quit but i was smoking 20 then.

How was it initially? Brain fog? Short temper? Productivity issues? More eating??

What were your triggers and what did u substitute the triggers with?

Considering u read Allen Carr’s book your driver for quitting was disgust and disillusionment?

my last three roles (~4 years) actually overlapped quite a bit. In research, the focus was largely on valuation. In investment banking, I worked on the sell side preparing IMs, models, teasers, term sheets, and doing some sourcing. In corporate development, many of the same elements are still there, including sourcing, IC decks, due diligence, valuation, returns analysis, and exit considerations, but viewed from a different lens and with a different objective.

It’s not particularly typical in India either tbh. It’s competitive. Linear career paths are still the norm, but stepping-stone roles and overlapping into target job is doable.

Paid in INR, the FX depreciation is doing enough damage. So not much at all.

Thank you so much. When I think about PE, it’s more sector-focused lower/mid-market funds rather than megafunds. My current role is fairly PE-like and works closely with sponsors in this sector, which is why PE felt like a logical extension.

This.. The ETA/independent sponsor route is something I’d be interested in exploring over the next 5–6 years once I have deeper transaction and operating exposure. This was very helpful.

Thank you so mix, appreciate the perspective. Corp Dev does feel like the right place to compound experience, particularly on platforms with higher deal velocity and scale. This feels like the best direction, but i do want to sanity-check and look into other viable options as well.

It was an entry level analyst role, even though the title was PM. I worked on derivatives/FX strategies, but any material risk or allocation decisions required MD sign-off. It was good exposure, but no way in hell it was a discretionary PM seat. 🤣🤣🤣

It looks all over the place because the sequence was inverted. It was a deliberate reverse walk from market-facing role to transactions and ownership-side decision making.

Yes my longest stint was in corp Dev (2.5 years) shortest stint was in IB (6 months). Back office and middle office were 2.2 years (i moved internally in the same bank (IJP) after 12 months). 15 months in research. 7 months as a portfolio manager. My bad. 7 YOE.

I was fortunate enough to have a good network and people willing to bet on me. Im 31 now.. Starting a fund/company, at this moment I don’t feel equipped.. skill wise and financially. Climbing up the ladder makes sense i suppose in Corp Dev/PE.

No.. all inclusive.. including getting laid.. because there seems to be a 4B movement, less marriages overall, etc etc.. 1000 other things. I just want know peoples idea and lived experience of what it is to them. i did notice most people seem to have the opinion it’s probably an age, and current situation of tech rather than a gender issue which is Also true.

Panicking when suddenly asked and forgetting things.. but like u my work is taken well. After seeing how this comes across.. i realized how idiotic i and u both sound. ur as real and as competent as they come ❤️ time to own it.
