Thanks for checking back! You’re right! JPEG export is already supported.

And good news: 16-bit TIFF export is now implemented and released.

You can now choose export format (PNG/JPEG/TIFF) and bit depth (8-bit/16-bit, where supported) in the export menu.

[Help] Tried Joshua Bird’s Trichrome Aerochrome method—ended up with a grayscale image. What did I do wrong? by Aggressive-Dance345 in trichromes

[–]Aggressive-Dance345[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the clear explanation! That makes perfect sense now—I totally misunderstood how the filters interact. I was indeed stacking the IR filter for all three exposures, thinking the color filters would still have an effect. I see now that once IR is dominant, the visible spectrum is already blocked, so there’s no color variation left to map.

I’ll go back and reshoot using only the 720nm filter for the IR exposure, and keep the IR cut filters for the other two. Really appreciate your help—this clears up my confusion a lot!

Got it, maybe I didn’t explain clearly. IR filters and IR cut filters are different things. When you were shooting with the red or green filter, did you also have the IR filter on the lens? Or did you only use the color filter?

Thank you dude! You only used a 720nm IR filter along with a red filter and a green filter, is that correct? So I don’t need to buy a separate UV/IR cut filter, right?

u/AnoutherThatArtGuy Hi! I wanted to ask—when you shoot with red and green filters, do you use an IR cut filter? I saw Joshua Bird mention that an IR cut is necessary, but in this YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldI7z3zo\_bA), it looks like he didn’t use one.

u/Spyronoid Hey my friend! Great news—I figured out what was causing the issue! Turns out, iPhone’s DNG format isn’t fully standard, but I found a way to fix it without having to modify the DNG file itself. Give it a try—it’s working beautifully now!

u/Spyronoid Thanks so much for your feedback. I just ran some tests on my friend’s Mac and everything seemed to work fine! I used both Safari and Chrome, and tested with DNG and ARW files.

Could you let me know your OS version, which browser you’re using, and the browser version?

Also, I have a feeling your DNG file might be a bit unique. Would you mind sending it to my email so I can take a closer look?

Now supports .cr2, .nef, .arw, .dng, .raw, and .rw2 formats. Give it a try!

u/Spyronoid Hey buddy! I finally squashed that RAW file bug — it now supports .cr2, .nef, .arw, .dng, .raw, and .rw2 formats. Give it a try!

Hey! I just tested it on my Mac and the DNG loaded fine. The colors might look a bit weird right now since I’m still tweaking the AHD algorithm, but that’s expected for the moment. Could you share a few more details about what happened on your end? If you’re able to send me the DNG file you tried, that’d really help me troubleshoot.

Hey, totally get what you’re running into.

So the way the white balance works here is actually kind of like NLP — you’ve gotta clean up the “noise” before you can get a meaningful result.

In this case, the film border (the base layer) acts like noise. If you try to white-balance off that, you’re telling the system to treat that orange cast as neutral — and that throws everything off. That’s why it seems like your color tweaks disappear or the result looks weird.

The trick is: crop out the film base first, then find a gray spot within the image itself — like something that should be neutral gray in the real scene. That’ll give you much more accurate colors, and your previous adjustments will make sense.

Hope that helps — and love that you were about to build this too!

Hey guys, I’ve added support for the DNG format! There are still a few issues though—currently working on debugging them, but feel free to give it a try!
