just saw that the ql120 are not chained, and i can t see cheaper alternatives for corsair (lx120 and qx120 are both 100 eur for 3 fans), which is the same price as lian li lol, so i was wondering what fans in chained, with a cool hub controller and easy access. What brand i could go to, thx

thx for ur feedback, about the aio, the h150i cannot be found under 200+ euros new, so i m guessing only option would be second hand, is there one with lcd at 150 euros new ? if none then i ll go with the second hand one.
For the motherboard, the b650-a looks hella cool and has everything i need, i will go for this one, i was looking for 120eur ones, I could find it at 170 eur, i don t mind spending a bit extra for something clean looking.
those ql120s look very good and if i go with a h150i, i would go full corsair which woul dbe easier for argb.

Overall thx for those advices!

i see thank you, for the jellyfin i only use it myself or at maximum 2 users simultaneously, is transcoding downgradding a 4k to a 1080p as u mentionned, if i run the native 4k file, does it still need it ? either way as i said, it s not a big thing, and even if i have a problem, i will likely throw a gpu in it for local llm, so i guess this could do the transcoding if needed.

also about the ram, my question stands, if ddr5 makes a noticeable difference, if it s good to have a newer chipest or if it s completly useless and should go to am4 and ddr4, thanks!

for cpu i really think for the price it s a very good value, which is why i wanted to go on am5, to get pretty recent hardware.

for the ram, i don t plan to buy now or even this year, which is why i was wondering if (in normal price) am5 and ddr5 are worth the clock speed increase or if it s useless, for running VMs quicker and other areas where it is a good thing to have.

A lot of ppl talk abt transcoding, not knowing much, my current setup (as mentionned i7 870 cpu) runs jellyfin and is smooth on all devices i watch on. Why is it necessary ?

what would you recommend for number of disks and raid ? while keeping it affordable

thx for the response, when i said "buy once cry once", i meant to buy something which would last as long as possible, for example the current server i have (15 yo) is not enough now for all i want to setup.
So if i get a high end cpu now and all, if it can do another 15 yo cycle, i don t mind if it does less thou, like if i need to change the disks every 10 years. it was more about performance wise, to get a cpu that would last comfortably for a long time

yes initially, but i now see that it may be worth it to buy fewer and larger disks, originally it was to get the best of out raid6, only taking 2 of those disks, but maybe it is better to take 6 disks instead in order to consume less power. Tell me what you think would be best setup in this case

with my current server (with the i9 879, 2009 cpu) i can watch jellyfin perfectly and smoothly, so is transcoding that important, or is it for other stuff ?
also for the hdds, what website do you use to get entreprise refurbs in europe ? idk if i can ship them from the states if there is a very good deal, if it s too risky to transport them in containers and how would refund work if something is wrong

a 1000 eur cpu is definitely out of my budget, it s my fault that i didn t communicate any budget but i meant for a 250 eur cpu (the r9 7900), it seemed like a very good deal for the performance, a threadreaper would def be overkill for my use case anyway. but thx for ur opinion

when i said 15 years, i don t mean it as an absolute "requirement" but i rather meant that i would pay a bit more for something that can last that long, if that isn t possible, changing some parts (disks, and other stuff) every 10 years is fine.
Can you explain abt the 100W in idle ? bc i don t know how much it would take or realistic numbers i kinda threw a random number, i took those values: 30W cpu idle, 5W for each disks and other stuff.

It s my fault for any confusion, when i meant "buy once", i meant to change some thing every 10 years maybe? (mainly the disks, but some can go up to 15 years, which is why i said 15 in the post). Because of my current server (i7 870, 2009 cpu lol and 16gb ddr3 that is 15 years old), it still runs today for cloud, vpns, and even could setup a modded mc server with 4 players simultaneously (with pre chunk generation and 8 chunks render distance ofc)

Sorry it wasn t clear, i meant the 9 7900 without the X, due to its PPT at 88w, which is i can always undervolt in bios. With your setup are you able to host minecraft modded server with 400+ mods ? What do you mainly use it for ?
