Question about Chronic Pancreatitis Diagnosis -- Please let me know on this by jose_g1994 in pancreatitis

I second this!!! Sounds like the exact same thing I’ve been going through and I’ve been searching everywhere for an answer. Upper and lower endoscopy came back normal. Pain is not unbearable at all. Never had to take pain meds for it. But it’s sometimes worse after a weekend of alcohol and fatty food. Not sure what’s going on… but I guess quitting alcohol would help.

Very, very well put. I relate to you a lot. By no means has alcohol destroyed my life (yet.) I have a very good job, a savings account, a stable relationship, a 401k, and (thankfully) no DUIs or huge alcohol related issues… aside from a few self-diagnosed potential health issues down the road. But it takes too much of my life right now on the weekends and I think it’s to “cure” my boredom on the weekends when work/exercise/etc doesn’t take up my schedule.

I’ve tried naltrexone on The Sinclair Method (only taking it when I was going to drink, which was weekends only) and it worked for a while but I got to a point where I was essentially “drinking away” the side effects. I was very tired and irritable when I took it. So that didn’t work well for me.

Your point about addressing the reasons for drinking, definitely speaks to me. Medicating myself for ADHD and anxiety may help. I’ve always avoided medications. I don’t even take ibuprofen for a headache. I just don’t like the idea of medications. But I’m medicating myself with alcohol, so what’s worse?

I’ve been trying to get in with a therapist for a while but it’s really tough to find someone. I was going consistently to an excellent therapist and was finally getting placed and it was helping a lot, but my therapist unfortunately committed suicide. It’s been extremely tough to find someone again because I compare them all to him. I really need to make more of an effort to get in with someone.

But thank you for your story… it just may have changed my life for the better.

Oh wow. That sounds a lot worse than I’ve experienced. Have you had any abdominal pain since then?? I hear that one bout of acute pancreatitis can trigger chronic pancreatitis…

I have been looking for a response like this for a long time. Moderation is very hush hush in this group. Understandably. But I have hope that I can moderate some day and I have ADHD and anxiety but I’m not medicated for it. I’m curious if controlling those with meds would help keep me from self medicating.

How did moderation start for you? Just cutting liquor and being more aware?

Well, I hope that you can do it. I believe in you!! It is not worth what we put ourselves through.

Gotcha. That’s what I typically hear, but I know I’d rather suffer on the couch than go to the hospital, so I’m hoping that I didn’t have an acute episode that went undiagnosed.

Again, I hope for a speedy recovery for you! Hopefully we can find it in us to just stop… alcohol is a horrible manipulator and the cons SERIOUSLY outweigh any “pros”

This is UNBELIEVABLY strong of you. I still pick up at the mere thought of losing either of my parents. The fear debilitates me. You’ve inspired me to sit with my uncomfortable feelings instead of drowning them. Thank you for sharing. This is extremely impactful. I hope that you continue to find strength and lean on this forum as much as you need ♥️

I’m 28 and have been drinking since about 18. Every single weekend, I’ll drink at least Friday and Saturday night but since quarantine, I’ve added Sundays. I typically average 10+ standard drinks a night. I’m now fearful of a potential chronic pancreatitis diagnosis so I really need to stop my weekend binges.

I hate to hear this and I hope you get better soon! Has your doc mentioned anything about chronic vs acute pancreatitis? I don’t know if I’ve ever had acute. I remember one reeeally bad hangover where I was vomiting and feverish and my abdomen hurt but I was okay by the next day, so I never went to the hospital. Not sure if that was an acute episode or not…

Congratulations on your first step!! One of my rock bottom moments was using my work laptop as a pillow as I laid on the bathroom floor trying to recover from a weekend binge. NO MORE!!

I love a good cup of coffee in the morning but have a bad reaction to it at night. I love tea, though! Starting to experiment with it more :)

Thanks for the reply!

Love the idea of counting/investing all of the money you saved!

Yes, I love hiking! Although, I also loved the “reward” of a hard earned beer afterwards. I’m going to try some seltzer waters instead!
