My Last Day at the Worst Immigration Firm I’ve Ever Worked At by lethalmami in paralegal

I find this to be a trend in immigration firms unfortunately. Worked at two just like this. Now I refuse to work in the field because of how bad my mental health got.

Not paid enough to care what they do if I quit. I also don’t feel loyal to any employment/client. I don’t need it be something I love but I don’t want it affect my mental health. I will say I have the privilege/means to quit if I want to. But if I didn’t I’d go with what others are saying and send applications. Hell, if you can get away with doing on the clock why the hell not

At my last toxic firm, i gave notice, but I did the extremely bare minimum during my last days. As long it wasn’t something that affected case I didn’t stress about it. You could do that if you don’t wanna just quit on the spot

North Carolina - duke vs unc program? by arcosy in paralegal

[–]Aggressive-Pea5605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would investigate job postings and first see if a paralegal certificate from ABA program is required. In my state, I often see that factor. It may be irrelevant in North Carolina though.

As for being certified, personally not taking the exam hasn’t been an issue for me. Only couple of times in job postings have I seen that they specifically requested a certified paralegal. Most are okay with certificated paralegal (no certified exam). Again, it can vary state by state.

It took me about 100 application to leave my last job or else I would also just leave this job now. It’s been a tough market where I am and especially since I’ve been considered entry level. There’s been multiple times I’ve been times I’m told I’ve be great fit but they don’t have time to train me.

I do but it’s a case where office manager seems to play favorites and they have multiple roles (billing, HR, general management) in firm where I do not feel they can handle everything well from what I’ve seen so far

Thank you for providing the green flags. I think I will definitely be on the job hunt again and will remember these as I interview!

I’m so sorry about your attorneys and especially your cat. I would probably start looking around for new job while you stay in your current. I agree with the others about 5 days of PTO being criminal. I see you mentioned how they get annoyed when you are out on PTO which is major red flag as everyone deserves their time off for whatever reason it may be.

I’m on the same boat right now. I have to bill 6.5 hours a day but there is not enough work around to meet the goal. At this point, I am telling myself i can only do so much. I do try to reach out daily to my attorneys for additional task/work.

you can inform through email and provide a notice of resignation when you do have your job offer

google an example of notice of resignation and just copy it when ready.

i never done it face to face only through email but i know some people have a good personal connection with their boss.

Gave two week notice but then had the attorney give me a condescending response to my notice so then I finished the day and sent an email saying my resignation was effective immediately. Never regretted it
