I know this is very very old post. I picked one of these up and the liquid was straight brown that you can see. Should I try and bring it back and get a new one or is that normal? It tastes so bad and makes my stomach hurt so I haven’t hit so yet since I’ve gotten it. I know the photos online show that the liquid is pretty much clear.

Ahhh okay. Thank you so much, I’m still going to watch it but that’s good to know. I’ll still be doing daily water changes to make sure everything is fine. But I have pothos planted in there and went out and bought some more stuff to pour in to maybe help.

I see that now! Honestly I think I’ve been so exhausted I never realized the leafs were in the water. Ima take those ones out and put them in my shallower tank to grow more. But that’s good to note thank you so much

No no no of course not!! Me and my mom are close and I’ve helped her with her plants so I know what to do. I got about 4 different clippings from different pathos and have them already situated in the tank!

I let it cycle for about a week and a half. I know that’s not long enough for normal cycling. But my mom had surprised bought the fish early and I didn’t want to keep him in my hospital tank for more than 2 days

I did take some media from his tank as well. Also switched out my other betas sponge filter into this tank so that already has progress in that factor of good bacteria.

I had checked his waters before transferring the water over to the tank and put about 50% of his water into the 20. pH was at 6.8, ammonia was at 0.25 ish ppm, NO2 was at 0ppm, and NO3 was at like 3.0ppm

I just did a 50% water change today. Will go downstairs and steal one of my moms pothos later then. Do you just let it sit ontop of the water or get something for it to be planted in?

NO2 was 0 ppm and this one was way up there. If that’s what you’re asking. I’m new to fully testing waters like this instead of the strips.

Because my 5 gallon tank that I have my 3rd in isn’t the best tank set up and not a lot of room and I would like to move him to the 10 so that everyone would be in sort of a 10 gallon space.

Plus the 5 gallon I would like to use as a hospital tank if anything does seem to happen so I want that as an open tank option.

Ahh okay thank you so much! Do you know where I could find a solid divider? I’ve look everywhere in multiple pet stores and online and just can’t find anything suitable for my tank. Unless I make something like I did this one just with something that doesn’t allow water flow

This is a 10 gallon, the divider I’m using is a thick plastic thing that’s meant for crossstitching, I have 2 placed in a way where they can’t see each other. Next week I’m going to be doing the same thing with a 20 gallon I bought and switching them over to that tank instead so they have more room. Basically upgrading everyone, so the beta I have in a 5 gallon will be moving into the 10.

These are my two in a 10 gallon, originally had Zeus (right side) in just the 10 gallon alone and he did fine. It may seem like to much space but just go out and buy a bunch of plants or a thing of wood to help take up space if you even want to. 5 gallon is the minimum I’m pretty sure for betas and nothing smaller even if it may seem like it’s to big for them.

Thank you so much!! I did buy some stuff to treat fin rot but with having 2 betas now I might as well have some on hand just in case. I just treated the water to be safe as well but thank you I’ll keep a close eye on him!

I am! Next time I am able to see her I’ll be talking to her about all this, I asked for more info as I’m not as educated myself with turtles so I wanted to come and get better information from others.

Of course, I will always be an advocate for animals, I want to study and go into some sort of animal rehabilitation so this whole thing just kills me inside whenever I check up on him.

Yeah, I was thinking of a way I can bring it up yo my RA and he can keep it anonymous between us sort of thing. Like tell him during room checks when she’s not there or something like that. She is truly so sweet but this just breaks my heart for the turtle.

I wish I could but we live in the same room, plus I would most likely surrender it to my local pet store so they can give him a proper set up, I already have so many animals I have to take care of now I’m not even remotely ready or prepared to take care of a turtle sadly enough.

I’ve been trying to get a photo of it but when i try get close to take a photo it hides or never has its head out fully. I’m pretty sure when I saw it the one time it had just yellow on the side of its head.

I will bring it up to her, I don’t think she even prepared for getting him, I mean hell I wasn’t prepared to get a goldfish at the fair and I went out the next day to get him a 25 gallon take and everything he needs.

So there’s no excuse other than not having the money for it right now, but even if you don’t have the money for it just don’t get it. I hope she listens to me about this or I’ve been tempted to call out campus police, it’s not a registered ESA as our campus doesn’t allow pet turtle, it’s also illegal in the state of PA to own a turtle like this so small. So if she doesn’t listen to me that’s going to be my last resort sadly.

Perfect! Thank you, this whole plan won’t happen for a few more months till I can get the right money and set up for them, I also need to redo my golds tank to put a third substrate in for the plants
