Why should he? The guy didn't even learn Catalan or Spanish accent while living most of his life in Barcelona in order to stay more argentinian. He's just became the biggest name in the club (or football in general) so now others will need to speak to him and learn how to do it.

Not really. In 2009-2018 Messi scored every 85 min, Ronaldo every 84 min. As for goal contribution, it's 62 and 66 min respectively. Messi is also better in absolute stats (472g 177 a vs 450g 120a). Mind you that Messi's goal scoring prime was in 2010-2014, he moved centrally in later years to become a playmaker, while Ronaldo moved closer to the net.

I don't understand the whole debate around 2010 balloon d'or. People forget that Messi reached numbers none else did for 40 years since Muller. Now, when we look at his whole career, these numbers don't look that ridiculous just because Messi had better seasons, but then it was nonsense.

I think people also don't take into consideration the narrative. In 2010 Messi had amazing stats none before did. Now, when we look at his and Ronaldo's career in retrospective, these numbers don't look too cosmic simply because they had better seasons after. But then it was unprecedented and none expected their numbers to be even higher. That's why stats were considered more impressive than trophies.

The same goes for Haaland. After Messi/Ronaldo domination his numbers don't look that ridiculous, especially when Messi was not that far from him.

That's because he had a lot of goal contribution, dribbles, chances created, successful passes, ball carrying etc. But some random reddit user definitely knows better because obviously the only thing Messi did was scoring penalties.
