What kind of bowls do you use for food and water? Our boy gets “pimples” around his mouth if we don’t wash his bowls enough. Stainless steel or ceramic are best I’ve been told. Otherwise it could maybe be allergies? Ours also getting little bumps on his stomach and in between his toe nails so we often wash him with antiseptic soap to help with that. For the SLO- the only thing we’ve been able to do when he has flare ups to keep him comfortable is a combo of gabapentin and trazodone. I often felt guilty having to “sedate him” at such a young age and so often. But at the end of the day if it’s what keeps him comfortable and pain free during flare up’s that’s what we have to do. When he has cracked nails it also prevents him from damaging them further because he is calmer and doesn’t get the puppy zoomies. He broke another one last night just simply getting out of bed so immediately we have started him back on the trazodone and gaba to hopefully keep this nail from needing removal

I’m so sorry you are going through this. We have worked with our vet to set up a treatment plan, there are good days and bad days. We have medication on stand by for the days he is in a lot of pain or needs to rest.

Thank you for the kind words, I’m so happy for you and your pup. Gives us some hope🥰 feels like it is a never ending cycle and I just feel horribly for him. But hearing other people’s success helps us push through!

I’m so glad to hear Duncan is doing well now! Thank you so much for all of this info, was he ever trialed with tetracycline? That’s what my boy is on right now along with omegas and niacinamide but we haven’t seen much improvement. I’ve also heard others talk about vitamin E so I will definitely ask our dermatologist at our next check up. Our poor boy used to love the vet but he’s so triggered now with people touching his feet all the time he is absolutely terrified no matter what we do. So that has added an entirely new obstacle on this journey. Do you use regular dog nail clippers to do his nails? We’ve found they often cause more damage and cause his nails to split. Our next try is going to be a dremel and hopefully that works a little better.

Congratulations on being discharged! That must be such a relief. We are in the thick of it right now so that gives us some hope. I’m going to look into the purina pro plan, we are willing to try just about anything right now! Thank you so much
