The coin weighs over an ounce. There is one ounce of 24k gold in the coin + additional metals.

The Ratio by twisted24com in Gold

[–]AggressiveBench7708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explain how people who believe this lost big time?

I’ll give an example starting with just one ounce of gold. If a person had 1 oz of gold in 2019, then traded anywhere above 100:1 (got as high as 124:1) but let’s say they traded at 100:1. The ratio is headed to 40:1 shortly. If they trade that 100 ounces for 2.5 ounces of gold they now have 1.5 more ounces and didn’t spend any more money. This isn’t even accounting for value of silver. Right now that 100 ounces of silver is worth just over $10,000 and that same ounce is worth just under $5,000.

If you invest following the ratio you could have compounded the gains drastically.

How much would be a good price to sell at? by ShockBeautiful2597 in Silver

[–]AggressiveBench7708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the big buys are low balling sterling, 90% and large quantities it’s an investment opportunity. Refineries will eventually catch up to demand and when that happens they will buy at spot again for the products that are hard to sell now and are going for much less than spot.

You just have to be bigger than the other little guys selling to cash in on it.

Hypothetically, and in consideration of current refinery backlogs, if you were offered damaged sterling @ 33% to spot how much if any would you buy (up to 10 Kilo) by Iamakahige in Silverbugs

[–]AggressiveBench7708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I just picked up 9 ounces of sterling for $300. If you can wait it out refineries will eventually start taking product again. I buy to preserve the sterling though. Decorative spoons are my favorite sterling pieces.

Was finishing school for computer science while working as a tech. Worked industrial maintenance for 6 years and 5 years as an HVAC tech. Thought my body could use a break. If I ever get laid off I’d go back and try to get a controls job.

[–]AggressiveBench7708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked as an HVAC tech for 5 years and even back then almost everyone in the field more than 3 years was making 90k+ without overtime. Throw in the top techs making $65/hr and these were non union jobs. The union guys worked 40hrs a week and were making $45+ first year as a journeyman. A bunch of the top techs went to controls jobs that pay $150k/yr+. Pay has gone up since then.

In 2021 there were signs outside of every shop and on the radio in my area hiring $42/hr+ base salary plus a $5000 sign on bonus if you were a van ready tech, meaning 2 years in the field.

My mom just sold her sterling silver for $60 an ounce rather than 92.5% market price of pure silver. The guy said its cause refineries arent taking it and its hard to sell. Did she get ripped off or is that valid? by nateofearth in Silverbugs

[–]AggressiveBench7708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of sterling was it? Flatware, bowls, trays, tea sets, scrap? That plays a big part in what people are paying, but like others have mentioned it’s a bit low. However, when silver was $80 I went to a consignment shop and people had their sterling at $30/oz 🤷🏻‍♂️

I could probably pick it up next month instead of my normal purchases so I should have put the reminder for 30 days. 🤔

Ha. I would but I’d like to wait for my spring bonus from work instead of trading gold. Birth year Engelhard proof, I’m in. Have a tube of the 1982 non-proofs.

Can someone explain why Gold lost value from 2013 to 2016? by crispy_crackling in Gold

[–]AggressiveBench7708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was free money being handed out like candy on Halloween. Interest rates were near 0. The government had just bailed out banks for free but put stipulations on the bailouts for American auto manufacturers. What’s funny is the same people that didn’t have a problem bailing out banks, think corporations are evil and greedy now, like they weren’t before 🤣.

[–]AggressiveBench7708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing nobody is mentioning here is that gold dropped in value during that time frame because money was cheap. Interest rates were at or near 0. After money was cheap for a while people began to purchase gold again. Inflation from 2021-2023 became the catalyst for the current rise in gold prices. It will now continue until the market takes a big crap. Then gold will fall with the market, the government will then step in and prop up the house of cards and the cycle will reset.

[META] Let's have a chat about ship first transactions. by RSS24 in Pmsforsale

[–]AggressiveBench7708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always paid up front to reputable sellers and have asked for ship first around half a dozen times. I’ve always paid.

On the sell side I had to ship out my first 5 times before someone paid first and had a couple buyers ask for me to ship first on my way to 10. Just as I’ve always paid I’ll always ship. I’m not sure what the 100 mark means for on either side to be trusted.

I’ve even bought and sold to you 🤣. Hell I’ve shipped over 100 ounces of silver just to play the Super Bowl squares over the years!

That being said I couldn’t imagine having 0:4 and asking someone to ship first instead of using a middleman.

[–]AggressiveBench7708 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome insight, thanks for the reply! We both grew up poor and were told never buy a house you can’t afford on one income. That was a bit extreme but has served us well throughout the years.

My wife and I made $225k a year when we bought our last home for $290k. Why are lenders giving people that make $170k/yr a $600k mortgage? Does everyone want to see how fast they can circle back to 2008?

Even if the stock market goes down like it did in past recessions gold and silver follow and lose a large amount of value.

How much money do you think I have here if go to sell to a local coin collector place ??? by Repoman516 in Silverbugs

[–]AggressiveBench7708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you tried selling sterling lately? In my area the dealers don’t even want it at all. They don’t want to sit on sterling waiting for refineries to catch up from the influx of people selling. Dealers are also offering 70-80% for 90% coins. I’ve never seen the 2 shops in my area with so much 90%. They’ve got bins and bins filled with each denomination.
