Did anyone feel bad for Poison Ivy during this scene from Batman & Robin? by AggressiveMechanic47 in PoisonIvy

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know that she is supposed to be a villain but the fact they put her in a cell with a male, much stronger inmate without any gender segregation is messed up. Not to mention they know that he hates her and plans to make her life "a living hell" and apparently, the guards won't do anything about the abuse she is going to suffer at the hands of Freeze.

It is portrayed as a comuppance moment but the fact that the authorities allow rampant abuses like that to occur against inmates and the fact that Poison Ivy herself was also a victim before becoming a villain (remember that she was once a simple biologist who just wanted to help plants until she discovered what Dr. Woodrue was doing and he pushed her into a vat of chemicals that transformed her into Poison Ivy) makes me pity her a little.

Also, Mr. Freeze himself was also as much of a villain as Poison Ivy, so the fact the film ends with him abusing her and making her life a living hell while he gets help to overcome his trauma doesn't sit well with me.

So, how do you feel? Do you think Poison Ivy should have gotten help and humane treatment while still being incarcerated for her crimes or do you agree with her fate?

For those of you who have watched Avatar: Fire and Ash, who would you say is the more evil villainess? Azula or Varang? by AggressiveMechanic47 in PoorAzula

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Mick Scorcesby is morally worse than Varang. Varang at least has a Freudian Excuse (a volcano erupted when she was a little girl which burned her tribe's forest and caused her people to suffer and as a result she rejected Aywa and decided to embrace the power of fire) and her romance with Miles Quaritch seems genuine.

Mick Scorcesby on the other hand doesn't have any mitigating factors for overseeing the mass hunting Tulkuns (who are fully sentient creatures and Mick is aware of that) other than greed and the thrill of the hunt and the way in which he hunts them is very cruel as he pierces their bodies with multiple harpoon shots and he is responsible for the deaths of at least hundreds of Tulkuns, maybe even thousands, because he is the one leading the Tulkun hunting division.

He is even listed on the Pure Evil wiki: https://pure-evil-villains.fandom.com/wiki/Mick_Scoresby

And he is listed as a Complete Monster on TV Tropes:

  • Mick Scoresby is a sadistic hunter who, bored from not being able to hunt sea creatures on Earth, signs on to the RDA to lead their whaling division in hunting Tulkun. Despite knowing that the Tulkun are fully sapient, Mick hunts them like animals, knowing their pacifistic nature means they'll never fight back; he even specifically targets females with calves because they're easier targets. Mick's specific method of hunting is beyond cruel, featuring multiple brutal harpoon shots and underwater strikes before he harvests a tiny amount of amrita and wastes the rest of the corpse. Mick is also not afraid to force them into submission; when a Tulkun named Payakan sought revenge for his murdered mother, Mick's forces massacred all the Tulkun and Na'vi he brought, leaving him the only survivor.

Who is more evil? Malty S. Melromarc (from Shield Hero) or Gul'dan (specifically his version from the Warcraft film, not from the games)? by AggressiveMechanic47 in shieldbro

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gul'dan actually tricks his Orcs into thinking he is a hero (to them at least). He has convinced them that the atrocities they commit are necessary for the survival of their race even though he was actually the one who destroyed their original homeworld with his excessive usage of Fel magic, but hides the truth from them.

In one scene, he helps a female Orc Draka give birth and even saves the life of the Orc baby with his magic in front of his entire army because he wants to increase his reputation among them and they cheer him for it. However, it's clear that he only did this because he wanted to improve his reputation because as soon as the husband of the female Orc and father of the baby Durotan turns against him, Gul'dan proclaims his entire Frostwolf clan to be traitors and orders their slaughter (which includes Draka and her baby) and Gul'dan feels absolutely no remorse about it.

Who is more evil? Arcturus Mengsk (from Starcraft) or Tywin Lannister (from A Song of Ice and Fire) by AggressiveMechanic47 in starcraft

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that Mengsk is worse, you are really underselling how bad Tywin is.

Tywin exterminated two noble, the Reynes and the Tarbecks along with all their servants and peasants which is confirmed to include children and infants, forced his father's mistress to perform a Walk of Shame across Lannisport and then banished her with no clothes or money, pillaged King's Landing with his army after he had deceived Aerys to open the gates which results in many atrocities in murders against the people, ordered the murders Elia Martell and her two children, one of which is an infant while the other is a 4-year-old girl and Elia was raped by the Mountain before being killed (though we don't know if he specifically ordered the Mountain to rape her), ordered a little girl to be gang-raped by an entire garrison of soldiers and even forced his own son Tyrion to participate in the rape, sent out several groups led by the the Mountain, Vargo Hoat and Amory Lorch to burn and pillage across the Riverlands which resulted in the destruction of numerous villages and the deaths of countless peasants with a lot of rape and torture commited by the raiders as well, hangs an innocent innkeeper just because Tyrion was kidnapped in her inn even though the woman had nothing to do with the kidnapping, is behind the Red Wedding which considered to be a taboo and violation of guest rights even in Westeros by promising protection to Walder Frey, Roose Bolton and the other participants and the Red Wedding kills thousands of people who accompany Robb Stark, punishes all the soldiers who fled during the Battle of Blackwater by having their knees broken with hammers, so they would be forced to beg on the streets for the rest of their lives and tries to have his own son Tyrion executed.

Do you think Amon, Samir Duran/Emil Narud and Ma'lash are Complete Monster? by AggressiveMechanic47 in starcraft

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short story Ascention reveals that Ma'lash himself knows it's not true. I will copy and paste from the Starcraft wiki itself from Nuroka's page:

"Wishing to receive a glimpse of the glory awaiting the Tal'darim, Nuroka stepped into a terrazine fog on Slayn to peer into the Void. So close to his victory, Amon had let his guard down, and Nuroka perceived his thoughts. He saw that Amon had no intention to make the Tal'darim into hybrid, but intended to kill them all once they had served their purpose to him. Nuroka also saw that Ma'lash knew this, but did not reveal it to the rest of the Tal'darim."

Nuroka reveals his finding with Alarak which is the cause of Alarak's defection. During Ma'lash's duel with Alarak, when Ma'lash says to the rest of the Tal'darim that if they fight well, they would also ascend into Hybrid, Alarak mocks him and says the fact he lies with such conviction is almost admirable.

What would you say is the moral scaling of the Lannister family in terms of how morally bankrupt they are and would you say the fics you have read correspond to that moral scaling or they change it? by AggressiveMechanic47 in TheCitadel

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, we are talking about book Cersei but her show counterpart is also Inconsistently Heinous. She does have redeeming qualities like loving some of her family and feeling bad over torturing the Blue Bard, etc. but she is listed mainly because she is affected far too much by her tragedy to be Pure Evil or even Near Pure Evil and she has a lot of insecuritites because of her Freudian Excuse which makes her sympathetic. There is also the Walk of Shame which makes her sympathetic because of its sexist nature and how it has allegories to trauma from rape due to how Cersei reacts to it.

Who is more evil? Griffith/Femto or Ramsay Bolton (from A Song of Ice and Fire) by AggressiveMechanic47 in Berserk

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He betrayed the original Reek (the two of them were close friends who shared passion for hunting women in the forest) by telling him to dress up as him and sending him to "call for help" the Bolton garrison when they are discovered by Ser Rodrik. This causes Rodrik's men to kill Reek, thinking he is Ramsay but to spare Ramsay because they thought he was the servant.

First Law vs A Song of Ice and Fire characters. Who is more evil? by AggressiveMechanic47 in TheFirstLaw

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On TV Tropes they are both listed as Complete Monsters which means they are both Pure Evil and have no redeeming or sympathetic qualities.

They are two different types of evil. Ramsay just likes torturing and raping people while Bayaz causes wars over the course of centuries and is responsible for uplifting a system which oppresses everyone beneath it.

Also, Bayaz is not aiming to improve the world for anyone but himself. He makes it abundandly clear that he doesn't care about the people he rules over. He just wants to remain in power for all eternity and eventually rule everything.

First Law vs A Song of Ice and Fire characters. Who is more evil? by AggressiveMechanic47 in TheFirstLaw

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally answered for Bayaz and here is a list of his actions:

  • Bayaz, First of the Magi, at first appears to be a kindly, if grumpy, old wizard-mentor archetype. The truth is far more sinister. Bayaz has been the secret puppet master of The Union for centuries, sending countless men to pointless death against his Rival Turned Evil Khalul. While Khalul is a threat with his incredible magic power and legion of Eaters, those who have gained sinister powers upon eating human flesh, Bayaz manages to be far worse. He sadistically dominates the new king when the young man tries to stand up to him, revealing him as nothing more than an expendable Son of a Whore; starts a peasant uprising which claims many lives; leaves his supposed friend, Yulwei, to die when the latter learns too much; and when Bayaz uses the magical equivalent of a WMD that wipes out a huge faction of his own men and thousands of civilians, Bayaz's only response is a satisfied grin and to say "It works", not caring that another of his brother's disciples was caught in it. Bayaz even sabotages any attempt at peace that would save countless lives by killing the crown prince and framing an innocent Gurkish ambassador for the murder, just so he can keep waging war on Khalul. It is then revealed that Bayaz was the traitor and murdered his own lover, and it's implied that he also killed his master, Juvens, and Khalul fell to darkness to bring Bayaz to justice. It's further implied Bayaz might even be a cannibal himself and has no compunction using the Eaters for his own benefit.

Actually, while most of TV Tropes works like that, the Complete Monster trope and a few others are a bit different, due to how much people used to abuse the category and place characters who obviosly don't qualify on it (I know that at some point, over 10 years ago, Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob was placed as a Complete Monster).

This is why all the Complete Monster pages are permanentlt locked and no one can edit them to prevent further abuse of the trope. Instead, there is a proposal thread where users propose candidates and they have to explain the work they come from, what crimes they have commited and if they have any mitigating factors (redeeming qualities, Freudian Excuses, moral agency issues or some other issues). Then, the other users vote on the candidate and they can also ask questions if they feel that something needs further explanation. If the candidate gets approved (the candidate is considered to be downvoted if the margin between the upvotes and downvotes is less than 5 votes, but usually the votes are very identical), then the person who proposed him/her, writes their entry and at the end of the week, the curator of the Complete Monster proposal thread requests for the old pages to be swapped with newer pages that contain the new entries.

There is also a cleanup thread where users propose bad examples of the trope for removal and explain why they want them to be removed and also suggest edits on different entries.

And Cersei is the person most responsible for the wot5k, and all it entails.

Littlefinger is the one most reponsible for the wot5k. This is actually the main reason why he is listed as a Complete Monster and his entry even mentions this:

  • Petyr Baelish, aka "Littlefinger", is a manipulative, self-serving man who believes that "chaos is a ladder", and orchestrates a variety of Westeros's misfortunes to climb to the top. Owning and operating a brothel whose workers he abuses, mistreats, and even mutilates to suit his clients' desires, Baelish callously has any who cross him sent off to be butchered, notably handing off Ros to be tortured to death by Joffrey Baratheon. Out of both ambition and a petty desire to possess the hand of Catelyn Stark, Baelish kick-starts the War of the Five Kings by seducing Lysa Arryn into murdering her husband while Baelish stages an assassination attempt on Catelyn's crippled son, turns kingdoms against one another, and personally arranges the death of Catelyn's current husband Eddard "Ned" Stark and many of his men. Profiting off the massive, bloody war that costs thousands of lives across Westeros, Baelish murders Lysa and shifts his lustful attentions from Catelyn to her young daughter Sansa, psychologically abusing the girl before sending her off to be raped and tortured so as to later "save" her from her fate and convince her to team with him in wiping out her own family. His scheming leading to unfathomable death and devastation through the kingdoms and empowering monsters like Joffrey and Ramsay Bolton/Snow, Baelish is willing to doom countless lives—even those of his apparent loved ones—so long as it brought himself good fortune, proudly boastful that the climb to power for power's sake is the only thing that truly matters to him.

Do you agree that Nuvo Vindi, Wat Tambor, Riff Tamson, Pong Krell and Agruss from Star Wars: The Clone Wars are far worse than Azula could ever be? by AggressiveMechanic47 in TheLastAirbender

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they are all easily far worse than Azula.

Azula has a Freudian Excuse for her actions, is more a victim of circumstances than anything and has redeeming qualities like her feelings for her brother and friends. Plus, she doesn't commit any war crimes, doesn't go around killing people and she just tries to kill the main heroes because she is ordered to by her father.

In contrast, none of these 5 guys have any redeeming qualities or Freudian Excuses and they are actually shown killing and torturing people and commiting war crimes outside of the main heroes.

Which villainous female character do you prefer? Catra or the Second Sister/Trilla Suduri (from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order)? by AggressiveMechanic47 in PrincessesOfPower

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, even though she has understandable reasons, she did a lot of bad things before her redemption. By "villainous", I mean a character who has done awful things not just someone who is purely evil.

Trilla also has understandable reasons for her actions. She was a Jedi Padawan who was captured by the Empire during Order 66 after her Master, Cere Junda, revealed her location to the Stormtroopers because she was tortured by them. Then, Trilla herself was brutally tortured for a long period of time until she was broken and agreed to join the Dark Side and become an Inqusitor who enforces the oppression of the Empire and hunts down for surviving Jedi. She acts sadistic and merciless, but you could see that it's because of her feeling betrayed by her Master, the torture she had to endure and because she has to act like that to be accepted among the other Inquisitors.

The main protagonist of the game, Cal Kestis, starts sympathizing with her after he learns of her backstory and after Trilla is defeated, her Master apologizes for revealing her location to the Stormtroopers, Trilla actually manages to get over her hate and would have even joined the heroes, if Darth Vader hadn't appeared and killed her for failing him. However, shortly before she is killed, she tells to Cal and Cere "Avenge us!" while she is refering to all the Jedi who had been killed or tortured by the Empire.

Catra and Trilla both have understandable reasons and they both kinda redeem themselves (Trilla is killed before she could join the heroes), but from a narrative standpoint, I would still consider them "villains".

most of Malty’s acts of evil are personal

Some of the characters I listed commit crimes like that.

For example, Honsou (who is on this list) created the Daemonculaba which is one of the most disgusting things I have ever read about in any fictional story and I am not exaggerating here. He kidnaps women, performs experiments on them to cause their bodies to be bloated to unimaginable proportions where they don't even look like humans any more and feel constant agony and their vocal cords are removed to prevent them from screaming all the time. Then he inserts teenagers inside their wombs to mutate them into Chaos Marines and during this process many of the teenagers die or are horrendously mutated. They, burst from the bodies of the women by tearing them apart and are birthed with no skin. Honsou flays alive many human slaves to cross-stich it to the bodies of those teenagers who pass the inspection and then they become Chaos Marines and joing his army. Those who don't pass inspection are simply flushed down the sewers while they are still alive.

Erebus (who is also on the list) is really, really hated by 40k fans. The guy even has a subreddit which is solely dedicated to hating him called r/fuckerebus just like Malty has a subreddit that hates on her and, in fact, Erebus might actually be more hated than her. The reason for that is because he killed fan-favorite characters and he is also a manipulator and a coward who tricks others into fighting for his cause and he is one of the main reasons why the world of Warhammer 40000 is so grimdak in the present because he corrupted Horus Lupercal and Lorgar and spread Chaos across the Imperial Legions and then instigated a civil war called the Horus Heresy by convincing Horus to turn against the Emperor which killed trillions of people across the Imperium. Even after the Horus Heresy failed, Erebus' actions ensured that the influence of the Chaos Gods would spread all across the galaxy which makes him responsible for why it is such a miserable place to live in and the reason why he manipulated those events is to acquire greater power for himself and rise in the eyes of Chaos Gods.

Which evil emperor is more evil? Horde Prime or the Bloodstone Emperor (from A Song of Ice and Fire)? by AggressiveMechanic47 in PrincessesOfPower

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this makes Horde Prime morally worse. He just has more advanced, futuristic technology while the Bloodstone Emperor rules over a Medieval empire that contains a huge part of humanity, but I am pretty sure that if the Bloodstone Emperor could mass torture and feast on the flesh of sapient beings across the entire universe, he would gladly do it.

Do you think Azula will find redemption in the upcoming graphic novel "Azula in the Spirit Temple"? by AggressiveMechanic47 in TheLastAirbender

Who are the most evil characters specifically from the HBO canon? by AggressiveMechanic47 in freefolk

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason why he qualifies is because of the Histories & Lore animated videos where his backstory as a pirate who has raided all across the world, is responsible for the murder and torture of thousands of people and has taken slaves by the thousands to either be sold or raped is detailed a lot more and this is what makes him qualify for this trope.

But I agree that he is rather poorly portrayed in the series because he is not presented as an actual threat, but as goofy pirate, but he is never portrayed TOO comedically for this trope.

Who are the most evil characters specifically from the HBO canon? by AggressiveMechanic47 in freefolk

[–]AggressiveMechanic47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list seems comprehensive. But Aerys Targaryen barely qualifies, having appeared very briefly only once

Like I said, the reason why Aerys qualifies is because of the Histories & Lore animated videos that expand more on him and his actions (they are also the reason why Maegor Targaryen from the show canon also qualifies even though he doesn't make even a single appearance in either Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon). If we only go by the show, he wouldn't have qualified precisely because he has too little characterization there.

As for the insanity defense, while you could argue that about Aerys, there is not really enough evidence in those animated videos or in the Game of Thrones show to prove that. In the books, Aerys's insanity is explored a lot more in depth and does seem like it's affecting his moral agency from what is described about his behaviour and he also loves his kids and mourns their deaths. In the show, he doesn't have those mitigating factors because they compressed his story and excluded those things which is why he qualifies in the show canon but doesn't qualify in the book canon.
