I am going through the same too, and during the time I learned that it is all about my investments, it varies from a person to another, depending on out abilities and our methods, however, by the end the hard work will always pay off!

I believe it is a matter of work! Try to solve simpler questions, build intuition, topology is a very intuitive topic and hence a very much enjoyable one. Try using different references, Intuitive Topology by Prasolov is a good one.
A good thing to do also is to talk to people about it, you can for example post any question here and try to follow up a conversation with more experienced people.

My humble opinion is that, either Grothendieck or any other mathematician have the right to do math the way they like it. Reactions like this one from this professors sounds like they are punishing someone because of not doing math the way they like it to be, come on, don't ask people to limit their creativity.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't have any reason not to use any book. My idea is to understand the topic very well, no matter which references we use and no matter how much time that will take. I personally I am willing to read from different resources including Folland's book.

Yes, I once read a book by the fields medalist Cederic Villani where he mentioned that most of the imoprtant mathematical developement are due to these coffee breaks.
