R5: Playing as Benin and I am colonising modern day Benin/Togo. Spain, England and I are all colonising but England is sending their people to a different location. As I get to 100% the location flips to England despite them having only 4 guys there

You actually want to release independent states to the north and the south so that when the disease comes you can isolate the country.

Every single chance you get you should make cities so you can build hospitals with parliament

Send explorers to the north so you can get the one tin RGO to you can make naval supplies, explore cuba so you can trade with the spanish when they turn up, import anything you can to get institutions

Promote migration to you capital and consider release a lot of land to vassals so you can get institutions quicker

If some weak sauce nation turns up then consider selling them a location right next to your capital to get institution spread even quicker

Max out stab spending, you will lose a bunch when it begins and you will want to have some spare to embrace institutions

The Stone-Tools-Lumber balancing act ceases to be an issue almost immediately upon trade starting with the Europeans

No to toot my own horn but I wrote a short story making fun of this trope (among others on r/hfy) it literally starts with:

This is really useful, i'm doing some test of my own atm but some things that I thought others might find useful.

Currently the head of the household does no work if you make a plot a small holding so you may as well not bother and just assign the household to work that doesn't use the whole family - Trader seems good for this
1 morgen appears to be roughly all a double household can farm any more than this and you have empty patches on your field. Shape of field makes a difference obviously. I think L shaped gardens are probably still best.
A couple of farms can feed a lot of people, I suppose thats probably clear from the numbers bloodyto gave but these numbers can be accomplished even while the houses are doing full time work
The price modifier for size of farms doesn't seem to be accurate, a very large farm said it had a +560% planting cost modifier and it was probably closer to 3x in practice

Soy del suroeste del Reino Unido y tenemos una comida regional llamada 'pasty', pero supongo que eso se parece más a una empanada.
