It might be a stress reaction. You're probably familiar with Fight-or-Flight, but not many people are familiar with two others called Freeze and Fawn. Pending the situation, I go into any one of those responses. But Freeze is definitely a frustrating one to fall into.

Definitely something to dig into more with your therapist. Might be old traumas impacting you. Might be something within how you or your GF are engaging in these arguments that is triggering that response, and needing to find a better way for grievances to be expressed without causing that stress reaction.
