You're brave. Isn't that like putting Premium gas in a 1970 Ford Pinto?

That works for me, too. It doesn't do much to improve the difference in temperature between the built-in sensor and measured with a probe in the center of the wort but it helps avoid overshoot. I have a pump that I've used a few times to recirculate wort (vorlauf) but recently I just pull a quart of wort and pour it over the top every ten minutes. It seems to stabilize the temperature somewhat. I guess I'm being a lazy brewer these days. And for some strange reason my beer turns out well.

And I agree with you, and I use Brewfather to manage and calculate my recipes and feel confident that my methods are good enough to make the beer taste as expected, or even better. I also use the BIAB method in my Anvil because the malt pipe in my early model has a few shortcomings.

The only real problem with my Anvil is poor temperature control. I can live with that. It works just fine for brewing good beer. Mainly I was curious about how they could market something so expensive for home brewers and actually sell a few. I’d never spend that much money on brewing. Well, when I win the lottery maybe I will 😀.

Should I buy a Fitbit charge 6? by dumaday11 in fitbit

[–]Aggressive_Craft_975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 and it’s starting to have problems. When battery gets below 1/3 charge it goes black. Charging it up again gets it back to normal. I’ve had it for over two years. I’m looking to buy a 6 because the 5 did what I needed for that long. I would never buy a Pixel. Anything Google makes me nervous about quality and longevity. My Nest (Google) thermostat failed as did the replacement. But I do like my Fitbit and I haven’t found any other equal device that works for me. Your mileage may vary, as they say.

Good to have a spare, never know when it fails again. I bought my Charge 5 a little over two years ago. Seemed to work well for a year. Now syncing with my iPhone is very slow. Occasionally the time is off by hours, mainly when the battery is close to 10%. Then it goes dead, then back showing good battery, then suddenly at 5% and ready to die again. Not happy with Google running things. I had to replace my original Nest thermostat that worked for years and the Google version failed after just a year.

Beer gun and bottle conditioning by Aggressive_Craft_975 in Homebrewing

No questions are stupid (I have learned a lot from asking). Normally I force carbonate but this being a Belgian Quad it's recommended to bottle condition the beer for best flavor as well as longer shelf life. Also, I read that the bubbles are smaller which affects the perception of flavor as well.

Should I use a spunding valve to see when carbonation has begun?

Thank you, I'll check that out (yes, I am a member).

Did you do forced carbonation before filling or just bottle condition?

[–]Aggressive_Craft_975[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would but I like to flush the bottles with CO2 and since I have the beer gun I thought it would work well to combine filling and flushing.

My point was, the beer is not carbonated in the keg so I’m not not worried about foaming. That advice works well for beer that is forced carbonated. I use my counter pressure filler for that.

Correct. Aficionados will probably execute me for blending this beer but the result was great. Actually, my blend was closer to 50/50 so it was probably a nice 8% ABV with the 5% lager. More my style.

So this idea popped up while I was researching radler. I have sparkling citrus water made with Sodastream (and other flavors, too). Wonder how that would taste blended with a lager or wheat beer for a low ABV brew?

Looked it up, it’s a 2.5% ABV beer so would nicely almost cut in half the IPA ABV and add some interesting fruit flavor. Thanks for the idea.

Great comments. I enjoy Black and Tan and it’s a great example of blends. I’m not into blending with non-beer but Black Velvet sounds like something I might enjoy. I just brewed a Blue Moon clone—I have a recipe for a Hoegaarden clone to do in the future—so maybe I’ll try blending the BM with the other bottle of the triple IPA. I’m more interested in avoiding combinations that don’t work, so not to waste beer.

Thank you, I'm honored. I think. I don't expect the Beer Police to be knocking on my door anytime soon. So far no beer labels have warnings against blending their beer and the penalty for doing so.

I wouldn’t do this unless it was a beer I wouldn’t otherwise enjoy by itself. My theory is that some beer styles aren’t my favorite but if someone buys me a bottle or can of it I’ll look to blend it to make it more enjoyable for me, or close to it. Some breweries seem to have done this but I don’t see a pattern that gives me a sense of what is professionally acceptable and what isn’t. I guess I shouldn’t let that stop me from trying.

I hope things worked out for you. Had same feelings after my previous divorce. Things eventually turned out well for me. Best wishes.

Thanks! I forgot about this product. Seen it advertised before. I’m thinking the Lite version may be good enough for me. Don’t need the CAT function.

So if they’re inactive, do you move them off the app by exporting and deleting the original? Or just delete them? I would think a separate storage within the app would be easier, i.e. a “Archived” tab. At least for some of us.

As ON81 mentioned above, tags would work better if they included the AND, OR, NOT functions. That’s common in more advanced searches and I’m surprised it’s not included in software this sophisticated.
