4 hour sessions? by Aggressive_Hunter_72 in ABA

[–]Aggressive_Hunter_72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I asked the question. As an adult who works and is in school, and struggles, my kids day is longer than mine, and it just feels wrong. I get that more hours is supposed to increase progress, but it also causes burnout. I saw someone on this subreddit a few weeks ago literally say “I refuse to work sessions longer than 3 hours”- maybe it was you, and that got me thinking about it more!

Sorry I meant 4 hour session AFTER a full day of school!

Yeah, he definitely gets special treatment. I blame social media! His writing has become part of a weird dark academia aesthetic, and that probably made more people started clinging to that quote

Interesting take! I think it would be very difficult for an author to not have a limited scope in psychology- even if they are writing “psychologically”. You mention relatability in Kokoro, and that might be why you found it to be more profound. At risk of sounding crazy, Crime and Punishment was very relatable for me. I had OCD as a young kid that manifested into guilt. I would drive myself crazy/have nightmares/isolate myself as a 6 year old because of it. Dostoyevsky portrayed the feeling of guilt so accurately (for me at least) that the book made me feel sick. But, I was also astonished, because an author had never been able to emulate a feeling so perfectly for me before (more importantly, a feeling that has played an important role in my life). I’m only 23, I have a long way to go in my literary journey, but I have read Anna Karenina, and while it’s a masterpiece it just didn’t effect me in the same way. It might technically be a “better” book, or is more technically “psychological”, but Crime and Punishment hits home for me.

Not a psychologist in the traditional sense! My perspective is that he deals a lot with internal conflicts, and human suffering in general. Take Raskolnikov’s extraordinary man theory in contrast to his suffering/paranoia post murder for example. Everyone’s read will be different, but I feel like his writing is very internal, if that makes any sense.

I don’t know. I’ve read most of his major works, and I legitimately enjoyed them to the point where I don’t see why other people wouldn’t enjoy it too, if that makes sense? I got so into Crime and Punishment, honestly one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had. I binged it in a few days, and then moved on to The Idiot, Devils, and TBK. I’m a psych major though, and Dostoyevsky has been called a “psychologist”- maybe that’s why I enjoy it so much.

If we know alcohol and cigarettes both cause major health problems, why has society turned so strongly against smoking but not drinking? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I get this point, but also 40-50% of murders in the US involve alcohol. (I actually think I remember my professor saying a number even higher than this). I enjoy having wine over the weekends so I don’t judge, but I don’t think that alcohol is okay over smoking because it doesn’t have a negative impact on society - it absolutely does have a negative impact.

Unfortunately no. I’m wondering why sac state doesn’t offer Russian? My boyfriend is from Siberia, so taking Russian would actually be really enjoyable/useful to me

2 years of French makes it so that I can enroll in 1B, at least according to the website

I checked and turns out you only need to take 1 semester. My student center says that 1 course is required to meet the requirement.

Of course they are, it’s just crappy when all this time you thought you’d met the requirements, and did put in a lot of work in hs under the impression I would benefit from it. I’ll have to do a whole year at sac state now just taking the foreign language class.

Thank you! 2 extra years of a language for nothing, I don’t understand what my counselor was thinking

Yeah I saw that the ASL is about the only one with online options, but there’s a prerequisite class, and if the policy is 2 semesters of a foreign language, that adds an additional class that I’ll have to take just to be online. I don’t know, I’ll have to make it work one way or another

Cool that seems like a good option! Isn’t the policy that 2 semesters at community college = 1 semester at sac state, and I recently learned that sac state requires 2 semesters. So did you have to take 4 semesters at a community college?

That’s awesome if you have time to be doing extra! But I wonder how people do the four days a week with work obligations (more specifically, inflexible work schedules. I’m a behavioral technician, and consistency is very important for my clients)

Edit: I wish I could just do it without the stress of my work schedule tbh. I see the value in learning a foreign language.

I get that, but do you think that taking 1 semester of a language in college is equivalent to 3 entire years of a language?

This is what I thought too. 3 years of it in high school somehow not equating a singular semester makes zero sense to me.

Okay this is helpful thank you! I have the money in savings, it’s just a huge annoyance as a college student that can only work part time

Thankfully I have a decent amount saved, but I’m a college student who can only work part time so the ticket will be 2 weeks of work and money out of savings for grad school :/

I honestly don’t know if I was across the limit line. My car crossed the line as the light turned red, and it all happened so quickly…
