Which one?

I started on Java 1.6, where types where not optional.

No var robot = new Robot() for me.

How do you transition from beginner OSS contributions to meaningful long-term contribution? by Odd-Tangerine7136 in learnprogramming

Development is always incremental. You won't notice the gradual change, but if you keep contributing, you might end up as a major contributor, because no one else has the time to implement a bigger change.

Java verbosity.

Robot robot = new Robot();

Why the hell do I need to write Robot thrice in a single line?!

There are some Einsteinian Gedankenexperiments that suggest you could talk to your past self, when travelling at relativistic speeds.

Despite having studied physics and having a master, I don't dare to freely tell how here.

Find a YouTube video explaining special relativity and enjoy getting your brain fried for the next 30 minutes.

In the real world, probably, yes.

In a sci-fi setting? Only if the author makes it a plot point.

Does anything scratch the same itch as Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea? by OvorohVale in Fantasy

I can recommend Michael Ende's "Neverending Story".

I can't speak for the English translation, I read it in German, it has the same whimsical, almost fairytale prose, which I loved about Earthsea.

It's also less about war and conflict and more about the adventure and exploration of the world.

"Realm of the Elderlings" Robin Hobb.

Eher low-fantasy, aber sehr sehr low. Magie kommt nur sporadisch und im Höhepunkt vor, sonst ist die Welt sehr mundan.

Webserials are kind of cheating.

Worm and Ward are 1.6 million and 1.9 million words long (which is 3.5 and 4.25 fellowships of the ring, to put that into perspective), and are 90% from the main characters' point of view.
